Guys guys @Jusyed @wanda77 @piekeboeboe relax, chill chill. Let's not jinx this okay? Remember we had zero expectation on love line, ya? This is supposed to be hardcore-emotionless-no-romance-whatsoever medical drama. Let's just sit back, relax and see where the writer will take us, shall we?

Also me : Okay maybe not kiss, some she-and-he-trap-in-the-elevator-the-whole-night moment maybe? Or or, I'd settle for he works hard, she works hard, they fall asleep on each other shoulder? Ah, screw it! Just kiss already!!!

Finally I watched all 8 episodes available with subs in one day. I LOVE the show. Just like I expected, the writer did not disappoint. She gave us again a good ensemble drama with a plot with many ramifications, that never get stale. I like how she loves all her characters and gives them their own importance to the show. I already want to watch t another drama of writer Lee Soo Yeon-nim.

My favorite character is Koo Seung-Hyo (President Gu). I expected a ruthless villain but he is not that at all. He totally won me over when he started to arrange all the planks in Seosan farm, just like how he won the puppy over in that night.  I like President Gu and his secretary scenes and I hope she will stay with him till the end. I also like that he has a friend in the hospital. Sun Woo-Chang is his spy but I like that they are old friends.

The scene that moved me the most was when little boy Jin Woo told the doctor Lee Bo Hoon about his imaginary friend who is his brother who can walk. The grown up Ye Jin Woo still sees his imaginary friend.:(  I hope he can let it go/let the guilt go. I wonder why Sun-Woo doesn`t want his brother and eveybodyelse to find out that he went to do some check up. He has a chance to walk again?  Even if this is not the case, I admire his courage to confess his feelings to No-Eul. Unfortunatly, she is seeing him as a brother/ family but it was necesarry to express his feelings and then move on from his crush.  There is his pretty colleague who likes him but he doesn`t see it yet.

I worry about Joo Kyung-Moon beeing the new director. Some people are not not made for management positions. he is a professional, has all the good intensions but he will be unhappy with all the politics. Hope he is the right man for this job.  Oh Se-Hwa is ambitious and she will be more suitable for the job. Who knows what surprises they will give us. The corruption and dark secrets from the hospital are far from being discovered.

How can we resist with such pictures? I know that they have been posted before.

Damn that preview spoiled a little too much. They should've stopped it at the handshake, and maybe GSH saying he's looking forward to working together - but without showing who he's talking to.

On the other hand, I was glad to see a glimpse of the late director (sorry, don't remember his name). For a story opener he's been regretfully absent from the plot lately. His dead body is a big, mighty gun on the wall I can't stop noticing and so I hope it will indeed give a mighty shot later. Which also makes me think; LSY gave us the second dead body near the end of Secret Forest. I wonder if someone else is going to die/get killed here too, and who it could be...

Article: Naver 'Life' Lee Kyu Hyung discloses Moon Sung Gun's malpractice... "Fight for Director position"

  • Ye Sun Woo (Lee Kyu Hyung) reveals Kim Tae Sang (Moon Sung Gun)'s malpractice.
  • He confesses to Lee No Eul (Won Jin Ah).

1. [+466,-8]
Moon Sung Geun's acting is so good it makes me angry.

2. [+402,-1]
Love line or not, this drama is good. Because it really portrays the medical world realistically. Whether is it the doctors, auditors, or people who are in charge of operating the hospital, everyone has their own difficulties and their own thing that needs fixing. The writer wrote it so well. The sad thing is that the patients are the most pitiful ones. It's sad and bitter when they get sick.

3. [+142,-4]
The class of the previews are on a different level too. They just let people know who the new director is. Can they be any more confident than this?

4. [+77,-2]
Don't you think that Ye Seon Woo taking pills for his chest is a hint of him having terminal illness? It's that serious to confess to Lee No Eul when she was talking to him. He got overwhelmed and thought if he don't confess now, he won't be able to. Feels like the feelings of him being desperate and didn't want to talk about
his sad story are getting mixed together.

5. [+52,-1]
President Gu is exploding with charisma with his bit of human kindness at times.

6. [+50,-0]
Jo Seung Woo is slowly becoming a saint and the doctors becoming evil.

7. [+49,-4]
Seems like I can finally get immersed in the show~ Professor Ju becomes the Director, right? He was a rival to Director Gu, and now here too. Will there be a plot twist at the end..

Read through all these so I can make my ep 8 last a little longer before I have to wait so many more days again for more eps!!

I think I want to start off hoping that this time Lee Kyu Hyung (as Ye Sun Woo) gets a happy ending this time. I hope he and Lee Dong Wook (Ye Jin Woo) go off on a holiday somewhere alone, just the two of them and actually get to talk. I get mixed feelings everytime these two interact because Jin Woo is trying to be considerate but it's suffocating Sun Woo :(( Like, Sun Woo has a stable job, has a degree, is clearly mobile but Jin Woo sees him as a child who needs help. (big difference between Jin Woo wanting to help and him thinking that his little bro needs his help.)

From ep 7, I have this sinking suspicion the talk about the metal implants and joint surgery have that personal link to Sun Woo. Chances are it's a car crash when Sun Woo and father went out alone, without the brother and then the father died? Just a guess there...

And after Secret Forest and Prison Playbook, come on, give Lee Kyu Hyung a character with a good ending pretty please?

Image result for haerong

Also Won Jin-ah is really, really pretty and I honestly admire her bedside manner. It's maybe traditional that it's a female role doing it and this contrasts with how President Goo made the small child cry, but Lee No Eul was created to show that doctors can have a heart. While I would like her more if the romance was a little lighter - it seems a little too quaint for her to be a romantic line to push the President, the Organ Transplant Director and both brothers all at the same time. A character with that much love for their patients deserves better and deserved more recognition for their service to patients rather than just be a pretty face for the other characters to like.

Finally I ship President Goo and Organ Transplant's Sun Woo Chang so hard.

Ep 7 41.00 to 41.33 just go rewatch it!! I have no idea how to upload pictures here rarw paste doesn't work but they are so cute. I love how President Goo asked him if he was okay first, then Sun Woo Chang threatens to leaveee

The latter needs a hug badly. It's a pretty emotionally taxing situation he's in every time he has to work - no one will ever recognise him for the good he's done because he's only doing 'bad' to the patients who get to see him. Unlike the other doctors who can be thanked by patients who survive under their knife, Woo Chang (idk is that his name or did they just swap the surnames around so he's also Sun Woon?) won't get that kind of redemption. Maybe at the end hopefully? A successful transplant recipient?

p.s. Please say it's not just me who thinks that Jung Moon Sung as the President of Hwajeong looks like a vampire in his one scene?

(Also yes, write fanfiction please. I swear if Ye Sun Woo doesn't get a good-end this time I'll write him one)

@abyssal

I really like your post here. I come to think actually the viewer didn't hate love line but because of the way they delivery.

Relationship of "President and Organ Transplant Director" scene  or "YJW and reporter" are more delight to watch.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Life" Episode 7

photo994538.jpg

The time has come for Seon-woo to enter the fight for Sangkook University Hospital, and the plans hidden behind his involvement strengthen the front forming against the hierarchy's worst. No-eul gets a little wake up call about Seung-hyo's methods, which nonetheless seem to have some genuine concern behind them, at least on a personal level. Our president dearest is slowly waking up to the realities of healthcare that need his consideration.

While I am not surprised by the revelation that Jin-woo (Lee Dong-wook) is the one behind the battle against Tae-sang (Moon Sung-keun), I am curious as to why it had to remain hidden. The series so far has been pretty clearly using Jin-woo as a secret rebel for audiences to follow, so this is an odd element to use for short-lived mystery between these two episodes. On the other hand, it does make Seon-woo's (Lee Kyu-hyung) involvement more impactful when revealed.

photo994536.jpg

More importantly, it sets up another person close to Jin-woo for a fall, and further develops his potentially detrimental to others methods. Jin-woo wants to fix things without being exposed, and while trying to stay in place long enough to make a difference is a sensible approach, he instigates others to exclusively shoulder the danger. Kyeong-moon (Yoo Jae-myung) and Seon-woo are two people who genuinely want to support him putting themselves in a tight spot in order to do so.

This is perhaps the reason why Seung-hyo's (Cho Seung-woo) bold approach seems more appealing, and more likely to work for the hospital's betterment, which brings us to what the late Bo-hoon (Chun Ho-jin) reminded our president; those without power have less wiggle room. Seung-hyo can afford to be bold, because he is in control. Jin-woo is replaceable. As easy as it may be to like the Scrooge becoming soft to children and dogs, the story does not let us forget his privilege.

I recently started to worry about where the series was headed without a main conflict or deeper focus, so I am glad to see that it tackles things one at a time. This time around it takes a look at organ donations, and the unique challenges that come with approaching loss from the perceived position of a winner. We think of doctors, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies as a necessary, privileged evil, and that mindset can taint their efforts.

I wish to see this for the other departments, most of which have chiefs who are still caricatures. Perhaps this is a balancing act between a more catchy, dramatic approach, and a more straightforward script. From the insufferable music to the constant physical altercations and heightened emotions, it seems that "Life" might be trying to have its cake and eat it. I hope that these, and any temptation for romantic tropes will be restrained.

"Life" is directed by Hong Jong-chan and Lim Hyeon-wook , written by Lee Soo-yeon-I, and features Lee Dong-wook, Cho Seung-woo, Won Jin-ah and Yoo Jae-myung.

[HanCinema's Drama Review] "Life" Episode 8

photo994692.jpg

Jin-woo is finally pushed to some necessary limits, as his brother's involvement drags him to the spotlight of this battle. At the same time, a worrying twist has surfaced regarding Seon-woo, and I am hoping that the creators will not do what I fear. Seung-hyo is starting to see the value of this hospital's work among the organizational filth and personal ambitions of its top brass, but will his master allow him to achieve something for all?

I nearly cheered when Jin-woo (Lee Dong-wook) stepped up and took responsibility for his true thoughts, physical harm and blackmail aside. Given his hallucinations and the reasons behind them, it is no mystery that Seon-woo (Lee Kyu-hyung) is his one sole motivator when it comes to speaking out versus keeping it all in, but I hope that he will be as willing to shoulder some of the burden for Kyeong-moon (Yoo Jae-myung) as well.

photo994689.jpg

The reason behind the good doctor's familiarity with Seon-woo's case worries me, however. Using marginalized groups for "pity porn" or to prop up a conventional hero's suffering is a major pet peeve of mine, and I sincerely hope that they are not setting Seon-woo up for heart-related problems and death. He has been a great, rare example of portraying the challenges of disability while being a

Speaking of scary possibilities, the romantic baiting is not out of the picture yet, but my hope is that reporter Choi Seo-hyeon (Choi Yu-hwa) is a sign of the drama opting for more natural relationships, rather than engaging in further love geometry tropes. Whatever may be happening between No-eul (Won Jin-ah) and Seung-hyo (Cho Seung-woo) is fine within the current context, especially since No-eul is, so far, not being sacrificed as a character for it.

The same can be said for Seung-hyo, who at the very least has a trusted contact to guide him through his business's realities in a way everyone else's rejection would not allow him to experience. The president is still balancing between numbers and ethics, between Hwajeong's threats and the hospital's needs. I love his recent hint of respect for Jin-woo, because his dislike for the reactionary members of the staff clouds his judgement as well.

Moving forward, I hope to see the lovely, but full of baggage, relationship between Jin-woo and Seon-woo develop and mature away from all the guilt and regrets holding it back. I hope to see Seung-hyo dive into the hospital's needs from a more humane point of view. Most of all, I hope to see Lee Soo-yeon-I explore the other fields and doctors more. Reactionary queen Se-hwa (Moon So-ri) could be next, because she has more potential than constant eye-rolling.

You really speak my mind. I agree with you about LNE. Let's see if we can see it as the story unfolds :)

Another thing I really wait for is about GSH - President Cho. We can see that GSH has the upper hand in the hospital (I love how he threw shade at the doctors right after he stepped into the meeting) but not with President Cho. After seeing his scene with QL President and President Cho in ep 8 I'm really curious about his next step since this time, it's his superior.

I'm crossing my fingers that GSH is one of the good guys. However, the show is making me think "what is a GOOD guy?"

Is it someone like YJW? His wheelchair-bound brother? The hardworking Dr Joo? Barbie Dr? The previous director? Regardless, I'm so grateful that GSH is played by the charismatic JSW.

I wonder if the show is deliberately making us think that GSH is a hard capitalist who will be changed to be more humane towards the end of the show like any typical drama? But the way the drama goes, behind the scenes GSH seems like fairly decent guy. His parents aren't snobbish - they gave him an earful for bring a dog home (in front of his driver, I might add) and GSH just stood quietly as they rant. He seems genuinely pissed off by bloopers in the hospital. He doesn't seem too keen on the supplement thing (at least initially), he looked annoyed at his driver for honking the car at thevhospital entrance. But he seemed too eager in front of his own boss. It is almost as if everything he is currently doing is a mere means to an end. Is he really working towards being a better healthcare provider, or is he working for max profit?

It would be pretty interesting if the management is being misunderstood for a change, because typical hospital drama usually have clear protagonists and antagonists.

Love reading everyone's posts, @bebebisous33 @abyssal @purpose @dzareth @wanda77 please post more!

@Jusyed I didn't start this thread, you have to thank others, I'm just here to cheerlead the drama on, RARARA... like No-Eul. :D Thanks for coming by.

@triplem we miss reading your awesome comments, hope you can fully catch up soon.

Episode 8 highlights for me. LBH's cause of death is less and less important at this point, what we see is how the aftermath lead to changes in our characters.  Some for the better, some more worrisome... all driven by long suppressed emotions.

@abyssal you were saying.. blood sucking?

This short scene in Hwajeong' CEO's office is quite nice I thought as it provide a simple answer to the question why Seung-Hyo continues to climb the ladder.  It's because he understood he is dispensable like everyone else.  He must stay relevant and keep moving forward to prevent others from overtaking him.  CEO Cho's dislike of President Goo is only contained by the fact that his working ant continues to bring him results.  One small setback, a failed business deal with QL electronics, brought Seung-Hyo to the realization that he is facing the same kind of corporate trimming as the hospital staff at Sangook.  Maybe this is why he is a good negotiator.  He has been on both sides of the restructuring team.  We get to hear Pres Goo finagled out of cutting the three departments by redistributing revenue numbers.   He argued that keeping the departments would keep the money in the budget reserved for building and buying equipments, money that would stay in the company if they don't plan to spend it.  In addition, the departments can be continued to be used for company tax exemption and deductions.

All in all, a nice job here by the president at saving the money hemorrhaging departments so he can get some money to build at Songtang.  The new hospital will house the more profitable outpt departments like Cancer Center, Well Being Center, or the mortuary.  The look at the end by Seung-Hyo is of a man who despises his boss (and his stupidity).  It was clearly masked contempt so I am wondering what will it takes for things to snap for him.

Seon-Woo is the star of this episode.  He revealed to Jin-Woo how he has prevented him from interning at Sangook for his own good.  While his brother overtly took on the protector role all these years, it was Sun-woo who has been silently as protective.  I was also glad that Dr. Joo allows Seon-woo the opportunity to fight his own battle as this was important for the disabled to earn respect and establishe independence.  Seung-Hyo was impressed with his conviction.   In the next episode, it looks like president Goo will ask Seon-Woo for his candidate recommendation of hospital director.   If this is true, I admit I am a little wary of Seung-Hyo's relationship with Seon-Woo.  I am hoping it will be a genuine friendship and not part of his calculated moves to establish a favorable tie between Sangook and the HIRA.

As he was walking out to the elevator, Seung-Hyo was more than upset that someone messed up  his plan with Deputy Dir Kim so he asked to find out who filed the complaint.   Jin-woo has realized that the way for him to oust Hwajeong's Goo is by electing the right person to the director position.  Seung-hyo knows this as well.  His number one candidate is out, he doesn't see eye to eye with either the Oncology Chief (whom he trashed over the medication error) or Dr. Oh the female neurosurgeon.   The preview has him being coordial with Dr. Joo, someone who is a supporter of health care for the lower income population and rural hospitals.  I am afraid he is looking at a person who will help to build and support the hospital in Songtang, including sending the right personnel there.  I think he can use Dr. Joo to promote his agenda.

Seung-Hyo is slowly changing and become attached to the people at Sangook.  He's not a bad guy but he is still a businessman.  I can't forget that the RFID, Hwajeong chemical/drug company, the life insurance deals are still going in the background.  I don't think he's a misunderstood person, just a person with different priorities whose principles are still being tested in the remaining episodes.
