@irilight No!!! I talked to the rep several days ago and she couldn’t confirm if it will be added to their content.  Really?

I have requested it online, guess I can call but at this rate, is it too late?  Did JTBC screw up?

Aug 4th Netflix Asia, it will also be avail in Europe and Canada.

@bedifferent, really? We have confirmation it is coming to Canada?  Hard to imagine it comes to Canada and not the U.S.  :hushed:

I think it is NOT too late to call, (and submit requests if you have not yet done so.). I remember we had similar issue with Argon, that was coming to different Netflix locations and not to the USA, and many of us called and asked to relay our message that we want to see Argon, and why  is the U.S. excluded - and they did bring us Argon..

It costs nothing to call.  It is only a moment of our time.

I know that all of the countries that say they show it coming soon, find it on search on Netflix.

When I search Netflix USA, it does not show up - not under "Life", or Jo Seung Woo, or Lee Dong-Wook...

So, please do call them...

@irilight I remember reading about Life coming to Netflix Europe on reddit but cannot find the post again.

Posters at dramabeans said Australia and Canada NF will air it.  I’ll call tomorrow.  I think NF has already spent quite a bit and gambled on Mr Sunshine instead. Too bad these two dramas are airing at same time.

From the insta post above, it looks like filming has ended?

From the comments posted by @triplem, the reviews sound mixed.  Arghhhh I really have high hopes for this drama as I was sucked into FoS due to the amazing story line by LSY and fantastic acting by CSW, YJY, LKH etc. Not forgetting this is directed by PD Hong who gave us great productions like LUTYN and DMF.

All the best to the production team..... FIGHTING!

For those who are interested in "live" recaps, you can catch it here

I can't wait for the subbed episodes to come.... probably by Monday??? :confounded:

[SPOILERS!!!][Life Roundup] Episode 3 + 4

Spoiler

1. [+514, -12] It's so richard simmons fun to watch

2. [+415, -7] Everything's good but I wish they would take some of the sound effects out.. and what was that final ending... Cho Seung Woo is cute...

3. [+269, -8] Cho Seung Woo's nice smile at the end, I think it's foreshadowing that he's not completely a villain, it seems like he planned something for a long time for the chairman...

4. [+244, -1] What is that final scene... Cho Seung Woo pet the dog and he had a puppy smile... why did they let the flowers fly, why did they play the BGM...

5. [+201, -19] Wasn't Cho Seung Woo in his mid-20s when he came out in Tazza?? With the actors' aides these days, Cho Seung Woo is a different expert actor. (t/n: by saying "actors' aides", this commenter is basically saying that some of the actors these days aren't good/skilled actors)

6. [+185, -27] The drama would do better if there was a person like Bae Doona, who can accept things well, but Lee Dong Wook is a bit weak... He's only trying to make his eye gaze strong and when he does his lines, his voice is too weak... And the tension from 'Secret Forest' is still a wall

Screen%2BShot%2B2018-08-01%2Bat%2B1.46.01%2BPM.png

1. [+3448, -35] I thought it would be a drama about power struggle but after watching yesterday's episode, wow the writer-nim wrote it with an intention. They quite brushed things away. This is what you call a drama. So far, there's been a lot of ridiculous dramas but this is really refreshing.

2. [+1891, -25] How far will Cho Seung Woo's acting skills grow? I realized that he's a really amazing actor, after watching yesterday's episode, his acting was literally crazy - to the point where he was possessed by the character Goo Seung Hyo

3. [+860, -15] It's been a long time since we got a properly done medical drama, it seems like a drama that criticizes reality came out

4. [+666, -22] I can assure you that this drama is a masterpiece. I was surprised after watching the 4th episode yesterday because it's so detailed..

5. [+353, -16] It's not just the drama's story but because even the actors' acting is tremendous, it doesn't lack anything...

From few comments that I read (from knetz) , looks like the directing is not at the same level as SF, like " the directing is not at the same level with acting and script" , but they all ( or majority)  praised Cho Seung Woo. I'm not looking much because I don't want any spoilers to ruin the drama.

Hoping for a nice day to all of you! Just 2 days apart from meeting CSW's new work.

Thanks @rubie for the update.  Yay to getting subs the day after the episodes aired each week.  We soon catch up

Once again, just like Secret Forest, we get the complete drama after it finished airing in the US.  Wish they change the release format like Mr Sunshine for US.  There’s a huge fanbase of K-entertainment in US.  I feel so irrelevant!

Come alive thread :D

Edit:  @jongski this should make you happy.  I think they are airing new episodes weekly on Netflix Asia (except Japan) a few hours after live airing in SK, beginning next Monday.  E1-4 catch up this weekend.

Netflix has acquired distribution rights to Korean-produced medical drama “Life” for imminent distribution in multiple Asian territories. The show will air in the U.S. later this year.

Life” hails from Lee Su-yeon, writer of “Stranger,” a series which won the grand prize in TV at the 54th Baeksang Arts Awards in Korea. It is directed by Hong Jong-chan, who previously directed “Dear My Friends.”

The medical drama tells a story about the people in a hospital who want to protect and save, and also those who want to defend what what they believe is right. Lee Dong-wook, well known for his lead part in “Goblin,” stars in “Life” as a hospital doctor, and Jo Seung-woo plays (“Stranger”) the CEO of the hospital where everything takes place.

Netflix will premiere the first four episodes of “Life” in Asia Pacific markets (excluding Japan) and English-speaking regions (excluding U.S.) on Aug. 4 at 12 a.m. PST.

Episodes 5 and 6 will stream on the same day as the Korean broadcast on Aug. 6 and 7 at 9:30 a.m. PST followed by a regular weekly schedule. All other territories, excluding the U.S. and Japan, will premiere two episodes weekly on every Monday at 9:30 a.m. PST. All episodes will be available in the U.S. on Sep. 12.

Oh well, SF really did set a high standard especially for legal/suspense drama. Nonetheless, I have faith in the production team and this being semi-preproduced, hopefully it gives the team more time to fine tune the drama.

CSW never fails to impress...

Thank you @rubie, and @bedifferent, for the update.

I am not happy with Netflix excluding the U.S. from viewing as it airs. (They have done the same with Prison Break, Live, and others...)

I just called NF and talked to their rep, and asked that he pass along my comments and concerns.  I told him we, in the U.S would also like to watch Korean series as they air in Korea.
We are in discussion groups about them, and because of this Netflix practice - cannot join the discussions...

I told him that Netflix is essentially discriminating against U. S residents by excluding them from concurrent viewing with the rest of the Netflix community and Korea...

I do not know if it help... But at least they get our POV's - if we get the agent we talk to - to pass on our concerns..

Lee Dong Wook And Cho Seung Woo Show Off Serious And Silly Sides In New “Life” Stills

Lee-Dong-Wook-Cho-Seung-Woo.jpg

JTBC Monday-Tuesday drama “Life” has revealed stills of actors Lee Dong Wook and Cho Seung Woo.

“Life” is a medical drama about the conflicts that arise as different figures in the hospital have varied beliefs on medicine. Lee Dong Wook plays Ye Jin Woo, an emergency room doctor who values life above all else, and Cho Seung Woo is Goo Seung Hyo, the chief director of the hospital who values numbers above all else.

In the released stills, Lee Dong Wook and Cho Seung Woo’s intense concentration is enough to set fire to the set. The two actors always hold their scripts in their hands and inspect their acting until the last minute, showcasing their serious passion with their sharp eyes. Reminiscent of a real emergency medical center doctor, Lee Dong Wook’s serious eyes complete the perfect details of his magnetic character. Cho Seung Woo, after a deep discussion with director Hong Jong Chan, implements the three-dimensional nature of Goo Seung Hyo, who can not be characterized as good and evil, into the drama, creating much tension.

They show an almost scary passion and concentration when preparing their characters or when they start shooting, but most times, they lead a warm atmosphere with their friendly and daring charms. In one photo, Lee Dong Wook poses with two fingers out, truly embodying his nickname of “walking statue,” while in another photo, Cho Seung Woo shows off his unexpected cute side by holding out a V-sign with his hands, wearing the most serious expression on his face.

The production crew stated, “Lee Dong Wook and Cho Seung Woo are producing different energies and auras. The collision between the two creates more dramatic conflicts and tension. Viewers will be amazed by the two actors’ astounding acting skills. Please look forward to what changes the [doctor’s] tension-filled, conflicting principles will bring to the hospital.”

'믿고 보는' 이수연-조승우의 재회, 다 좋은 '라이프'의 옥에 티

[TV 리뷰] JTBC <라이프>의 아쉬운 대목... 그럼에도 기대되는 이유

Lee Su-yeon, who believes and sees - Jo Seung-woo's reunion,
[TV Review] JTBC <Life> Awesome ... A lot of expectations

Google translate. Read and you will get the gist of it. Basically an acticle praising the work of LSY and JSW.

Spoiler

As the era of TV dramas opens, the era of star writers has also started. There was a time of Kim Soo-hyun who played a part in the previous generation, and Song Ji- There was also a time when the shadows of drama that represented Mun Young-nam and Lim Sung-han were thick. And it was Kim Eun Sook who won the 2010s. His presence is overwhelming. Kim Eun Sook proved that his romance was unbreakable with TVN <Sean Shine>.

In addition, he has a stake in Kim Eun-hee who wrote SBS <Sign> <Ghost> <Three Days> and tvN <Signal>. JTBC is one of the best-known writers of the series, "She is a Distinguished Woman," and "KBS2 Miracle We Meet". But last summer, there was a writer who gave us an unforgettable shock. It is Lee Soo-yeon who wrote a wonderful work called tvN <Secret Forest>.

<비밀의 숲>과 <라이프>

<비밀의 숲>과 <라이프>ⓒ tvN/JTBC

The power of Lee Su-yeon is never far behind Kim Eun-sook. If Kim Eun-suk has a powerful weapon of 'romance', Lee Su-yeon has an explosive weapon called 'social accusation'. The Secret Forest, which won the grand prize at the BaekSang Arts Grand Prize in 2018, was a masterpiece that draws a lot of attention to the history of Korean dramas. I wonder if the Korean drama history has been said to be divided into "The Secret Forest".

Lee Su - yeon 's perspective penetrated the spirit of' liquidation ', and Lee' s gaze was meticulous and detailed, as if the prosecution 's organization was under a microscope. It was a perfect play that was incredible as the work of a new person. Inspector Hwang Shimok (Chung Seung-woo) who does not feel emotions was a new character that did not exist in the meantime. Cho Seung-woo's exquisite acting, full of moderation, enthralled viewers, and as a result, many viewers are still wandering in the Secret Forest.

<라이프>의 한 장면

<라이프>의 한 장면ⓒ JTBC

Lee Soo-yeon, the author of the prosecutor's sword was drawn to the prosecutor's office was aimed at the medical system. <Life> depicts the conflict within the 'hospital (medical system)' where 'logic of money' permeates. It is through an antigen called Kwang Sung Hyo (Jo Seung Woo) and an antibody called Ye Jin Woo (Dong Wook Min). Lee Soo-yeon once again coincided with Cho Seung-woo, who had been breathing once in the Secret Forest. Cho Seung-woo praised Lee Su-yeon's essay on the essence and system, saying, "It seems to be going back to the root."

Like in the Secret Forest, Cho's presence is overwhelming in Life. Every scene that emits charisma emits a sense of tension. Delicate acting does not waste a single cut. Kwon Sang-hyo, who plays his role, is a villain as an advocate of capital logic and an expert in the destruction of a strong union. But as the play progresses, he is becoming a three-dimensional figure that goes beyond good and evil.

The act of Cho Seung-woo, who said, "Please be truly shameful" about the mistakes of medication in the cancer center and the behavior of the hospital that concealed it, was amazed. It was also impressive to find Kim Byeong-soo (Kim Ik-tae), the father of the minister of environment, to persuade the president to buy the Songtan site. Cho Seung-woo is not merely a cold-blooded person but a complicated and diverse character.

<라이프>의 한 장면

<라이프>의 한 장면ⓒ JTBC

The supporting actors supporting <Life> are also powerful. Yoo Jae - myong of the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Jang Jung - moon, plays a soft but powerful role and establishes Kwang - hyo and Dae - wipgak. In the auditorium and the presidential office, the scenes of working with Cho Seung-woo were a different pleasure than the Secret Forest. The acting of Moon Sung-keun, the hospital's head of the hospital, Lee Bo-hoon, who is suspected of being questioned, and Chung Ho-jin, a vice-director of the hospital, are also exciting elements. Their dual attitude is one of the greatest features of drama.

In addition, Hyeon-hyeon of Kang Kyung-aa is the assistant of Kwon Seung-hyeon in the closest side because of a broken process, and the human aspect which is unexpectedly catches the eyes of viewers. It is a learning to taste smoke. 'Kwakbebi', which plays the role of eyes and ears of Kwon Sanghyo, and the organ transplant coordinator Sunwoo Chang are also eye-catching. The acting of Kim Won - sun at the emergency medical center Chang - Soo station is nagging.

<라이프>의 한 장면

<라이프>의 한 장면ⓒ JTBC

Although Jo Seung-woo and supporting actors are performing well, there are some questions about the casting of <Life>. Most of all, the emergency medical center who fights against Cho Seung-woo, Lee Jin-woo, who plays the role of a specialist, is somewhat sad. In order to protect the medical institution from the logic of capital, the character of Yejin should be more persuasive and the balance of the drama should be balanced.

Also, I wonder if you cast Won Jin - ah on the Ino - e station of pediatric adolescents and specialists who are motivated by. Wonjin is 10 years older than Dong-wook and is younger than Lee, Kyu-hyung of Yejin-woo's younger sister. Lee Joung-hyung calls Won Jin-a 'sister', and the flow is broken. Lee Gyu-hyeong's acting as an acting actor through <Secret Forest> <Wise Bamboo Life> is still somewhat awkward.

<라이프>의 한 장면

<라이프>의 한 장면ⓒ JTBC

Of course, this is a trivial question and a bit of a relief. It is still attractive for Lee Su-yeon to lead the society by setting a character that goes beyond the dichotomy of good and evil, and the problem consciousness that details the problems in the whole medical field. Moreover, there is also Seungwoo Cho. Lee Soo-yeon and Cho Seung-woo come together, and there is a small joke in <Life> that the great actors have gained.
