This is the most intense drama "MOVIE", because it's filmed with the quality and writing like a movie, I think I've ever watched.  The whole time I kept thinking--what's going to happen next, what's going to happen now.

@Auntie Mame, I agree about the speed of zombies in movies; however, I thought they were super fast in Zombieland and World War Z.

This drama was very well done.

Looks like the pace really ramps up in Season 2! Pray that it is executed perfectly without feeling rushed or jarring.

Wishing a very blessed Lunar New Year to everyone who celebrates! May this upcoming year be the best year yet, filled with blessings, good health and joy!

Ryu Seung Ryong On Season 2 Of Netflix’s “Kingdom,” Reveals Reaction To Reading Season 2 Scripts

Ryu Seung Ryong On Season 2 Of Netflix’s “Kingdom,” Reveals Reaction To Reading Season 2 Scripts

Feb 5, 2019

Ryu Seung Ryong, who plays the role of the sinister Cho Hak Ju in Netflix’s “Kingdom,” spoke about the highly anticipated second season of the drama, which, reports say, will go into production this month.

On his reaction to the conclusion of Season 1 of the series, the actor said, “I wondered, ‘Why is it ending here?’ But Season 1 was a process of introducing the world and the story.” Ryu Seung Ryong gave a hint of his thoughts upon seeing the script for Season 2, saying, “In Season 2, I think a lot of things are going to be withdrawn. I saw the script, and I was worried about how they were going to handle everything in the end.”

He added, “The story also develops very quickly, and I read all the way through the script for Episode 4 in a flash. Characters other than the main cast seen in Season 1 will likely play a bigger role in Season 2.”

In the series, Ryu Seung Ryong’s Cho Hak Ju is an endlessly power hungry and ruthless character. “I tried to give my character a heavy aura of horror with minimal [physical] movements,” said Ryu Seung Ryong. “And the characters around Cho Hak Ju did a good job in portraying just how scary Cho Hak Ju really is. It was a big help.”

“Cho Hak Ju smashing a chief scholar’s head into a table, when they are symbols of nobility in a Confucian society, was a crucial moment that showed the level of power that Cho Hak Ju holds.”

Ryu Seung Ryong continued, “He’s the non-zombie, human presence in the show that instills horror in viewers. He is a person that is keeping the king chained like a dog and giving him food, as if he is rearing him. Even so, he is not one bit shaken. Those kinds of actions are what’s horrifying. His obsession with power to the point of being almost reckless was fresh to me.”

The actor also hinted at big things happening for actress Kim Hye Jun, who plays the role of his daughter and the queen of Joseon, in Season 2 of “Kingdom.”

Specifically, he addressed criticisms aimed toward the actress and her acting ability, saying, “When filming, as a fellow actor, all you can do is try to create a comfortable atmosphere so someone can do their best to portray a character in the way that they want. If you try to do more, it can become a distraction. Please see Season 1 as the growing pains of an as-yet foolish young queen. There is a part in Season 2 where her hidden potential really takes flight. All one can do is work hard while hoping controversy dies down as the story unfolds.”

this drama is SO GOOD! can't wait for season 2 and cant wait for other soompiers to tune in with all their wild (and very entertaining) theories of how the story will unfold

I agree. I never knew from one moment to the next what was going to happen. Now, I'm wondering how they are going to make it through the day.

Another interview with Kim Eun Hee... I had a good laugh at Joo Jihoon's question since I had the exact same thought when I saw scene after scene of him perpetually running away from the zombies :D

Writer Kim Eun-hee-I of the Netflix original "Kingdom" told a behind-the-scene story in a recent interview.

"Kingdom", which was released in 190 countries to 1.25 billion users, is a mystery thriller about a prince named Lee Chang (Joo Ji-hoon) who is framed as a traitor, but he discovers the truth about the people who have been starved to the extent of becoming monsters.

Writer Kim Eun-hee-I says she never directed her actors as a writer and says she thinks it's the director's job to direct them. She may however, explain a certain part of the script if they don't understand, but doing anymore than that would only confuse the actors.

Apparently, she doesn't run into Joo Ji-hoon and Bae Doona that much while they're filming, but when they did, Bae Doona said she was physically too cold and Joo Ji-hoon asked why he was always running.

Kim Eun-hee-I said, "When I wrote the script, I did realize that real nobles don't walk, run, or swim. Ryu Seung-ryong didn't suffer as much as the others because he's mostly indoors so he didn't have any complaint for me".

About Bae Doona, she said she was 'cute' and she showed her a recording of her acting. "She added something that was not in the script, but she did it well".

@sushilicious Ahhh! If Ep1 is directed by PD Kim Sunghoon, could it be from the original 8 episodes that were filmed but had to be cut down to 6 for Season 1? Or is this a new script that has not yet been filmed?

Is there any indication who will be taking over the helm for S2? Fingers crossed it will be just as awesome as S1!

@sushilicious I can't imagine filming without Joo Ji Hoon, since he is the lead in the drama. Perhaps there is an agreement with both production companies to allow him to juggle his time between the two dramas. Hope he does not wear himself out... both dramas appear to be very physically challenging...

Was reading the interview of the 3 leads, and it occurred to me that Bae Doona and Ryu Seung Ryeong did not have any scenes together in S1. No wonder he asked if she was speaking "English" during her first sageuk speech attempt :D I'm guessing they should cross paths in S2, now that Cho Hak Ju is also in Sangju.

Interviews with the cast of Kingdom! Really awesome to see the chemistry between them  S2 please come quickly!

This one is from Netflix Indonesia, so is subbed in Indonesian, I love the witty, funny answers the cast gave, so hopefully an English-subbed version will be available soon:

What was the significance of the Queen's blood on her foot garment?

It was either she had a miscarriage at that moment or it was the blood of the woman who the king was eating. If the Queen was truly pregnant then it is the former;  if not then it's the latter.
