I wish this thread will go on forever:heart:

I have watched the show twice and still going back to it.

Allen Ren's voice in all his dramas sound the same but he sounds different when not in drama.

Really love his voice in the dramas. The tone is so mesmerising.

I think he looks so much better in historical costumes .

Can't wait for new series of him.

Lol it’s because it’s been the same voice actor dubbing him this whole time. His voice actor has a really nice voice, definitely suits JL. JL’s real voice is super cute and matches him too. lol

I’m just waiting for the eng sub for this last Friday’s episode of 向往的生活. They had more interaction in the second episode/part. It was nice to see them talk, even if they were only short convos. And he’ll eachother out too. I can’t believe this episode was the last 一下夫妇 content we will have for awhile. Still praying they win those awards on Weibo so that we’ll at least get something from the two again. I’m still also praying for another drama of the two even if I have to wait for years just to get it. lol

I absolutely love their characters and wouldn’t mind a season 2, but I would Iove to see 一下cp in another drama together. At least a romance (slight comedy) base drama. It would be great if it was a modern drama too.

I’ve been rewatching UTP like crazy this summer. The love for this drama and couple is still burning. lol Still praying and waiting for the two to reunite.

hi  All !

Because of pandemic, i start working at home since 3 months ago and i have a lot of time to rewatch again this drama ( the download version, IQiYI app version and VIKI version -- they use a different translation and there also there is an extended version in Rooftop kiss -- which i lovee so much) , after passing several months and watching a lot of drama, still this drama is my favorite one !

So recently, i accidentally read in MDL comment section that someone kindly translate it in English and Indonesia ( Thank you very much ). and an Indonesia translation has reach 69 chapters by today. and in this chapter 69, i can't stop laughing, Jinxia is such a unique characters..i wish drama adaptation also included this scene, it must be hilarious. LOL.

I absolutely love Allen in Glory of Tang and would recommend it highly. Initially I also didn’t find him very handsome but his looks belong to the type that grows on you. Just to share, although he lost a segment of fans (those who are possessive and prefer him to be single) when he announced his marriage and son, he is still very popular and his company promotes him heavily as he is their most bankable male star. Ironically, this could have contributed to his dramas not being released as quickly because his company prefers them to be aired on one of the big TV stations plus there were national policy changes (eg limited airtime for period dramas) and it does not help that his company offended a major national TV station last time due to another drama.

Omg. Now i'm hooked on this. Happened to watch some episodes when i just plonk in the living room when this is airing on tv recently. (I don't watch drama- last drama was 2 years ago in english), Found it interesting and went to look for the series online. Finished it last week. Decided to get to know the novel series. Found the audiobook and just completed it since my recognition of Chinese words is atrocious but commentary understanding is ok. (Free for 40/103 chapters, the rest payable or sign up for free 7 days).

Now thinking if i should watch the video again... wah... been breathing this for the past 2+ weeks..

Hi all,

I’m a new user of Soompi forum although I have been reading comments for a while but this is my first time commenting after signing up for an account. Why? Because I can’t resist joining in the fun of ‘crazy’ fans anymore.

I just finished watching the entire series of Under the Power. My mum started watching in 2019 but I didn’t want to wait and catch episode by episode. Also initially when I only watched a bit here and there with her, starting in the middle of the series, I was not impressed; I felt the ML and FL were not as great looking as other dramas have typically been. How wrong was I!

Now, what I love and dislike about this series:

Love:

1) Perfect casting of ML and FL. Both played the characters very well, coming off very authentic and believable on screen. The micro expressions of ML and the polarities of FL as goofy, scared of ghosts, bootlicking, pretentious yet very real, brave, warrior like personality. It is not easy to portray either of these characters because they are complex and interesting.

2) Natural on screen presence and chemistry! Despite not having that typical gorgeous Chinese woman look, JinXia is the perfect cast because she is not supposed to be one. It’s her authenticity, personality, intelligence that should be most noticeable and Seven was a great choice. Paired with aloof DaRen, they complement perfectly like yin and Yang. Kudos to JiaLun for acting this out so well when the character is nothing like himself at all. Subtle micro expressions are really tough to present on screen and often only the most talented actors can pull it off successsfully. He deserves much recognition for this skill.

3) Great characters and storyline. Thanks to the author of the novel and the screen writer who adapted this to the big screen. Editing and directing work also deserves credit.

4) Good balance between serious investigations and romantic ups and downs, enough heart fluttering moments and swoons. If there’s too much of one and not another we get tired of just crying and agonizing, or we get too bored with dry plots. It doesn’t happen here. It keeps moving at a great pace! Of course as fans we can always ask for more romantic scenes, I do wish too, because I am in love with DaRen like everyone else, but truthfully, from a logical perspective, this drama did well...except for maybe a few of those noble idiocy sacrifices towards the end of the drama.

5) Even the villain is quite loveable. Like an anti hero almost. I am not afraid to admit that I find Yan character interesting like Hannibal in the Silence of the Lamb; perverted, yet has a very controlled mannerism. Almost like the perfect gentleman. Plus he plays central role in bringing the ML and FL to one of the sweetest moments early on in the drama. If I were Jin Xia, I probably would have fallen in love after being fed noodles and treated like a princess like that on the boat.

What didn’t work:

1) The special effects...like it’s done with 50 cents worth of effort. Haha

2) The emperor. I wish for a more charming actor playing that role but perhaps it would have overshadowed the main characters.

3) Maybe a little bit more insights or internal dialogue of DaRen. I only realized after listening to a YouTube channel, 剧外故事,that DaRen was already attracted to JinXia quite early on in the drama. This made perfect sense as I was wondering why DaRen brought a little girl along to investigate while he was perfectly capable of analyzing the situations himself. Turned out he kinda admired her abilities early on, and was fascinated by her yet confused by his own emotions. With that internal dialogue his seemingly aloof and obnoxious actions made perfect sense and become quite endearing actually.

okay, maybe I will add more comments later if this generates some discussion and is still worth discussing... fans may have moved on to a new drama already.

my mum and I are watching Love and Redemption now.

Agree with everything you said.  I just rewatched this all over again for the third time..lol.

At the moment I am also watching the new drama called Go Ahead with

Seven Tan in it. It's very good too although I wish it has DaRen in it as well as he would fit in this drama very well.

It’s 50 cent because the crew actually didn’t have a budget compared to other historical dramas, that’s why people said the actors brought the drama up

** Nah, fans are now moving onto the novels because they can’t move on from this

Hello,

I don't know if anyone else is posting on this topic, but I just discovered "Under the Power" about 2 weeks ago, and it has become quite an obsession!

I wonder if anyone else saw a connection between the comment that LY makes when they break into the house of Zhou Xianyi (Episode 8 around minute 21)--when he says (according to the subtitles) that he is "not the kind of person that won't be disturbed by a woman sitting on [his] lap" and Episode 38 (around minute 6:00) when he actually has her sitting on his lap?

Thank you all for your analyses and links above--so good to be able to share the enthusiasm for this series.
