[Mainland Chinese Drama 2017] Where Winter Is Warm, Where Summer Is Cool, 何所冬暖与夏凉

I watched some clips of this drama and couldn't understand what the hell was going on. I read the summary of the plot and found it interesting. So I started reading the novel on google translate as the subs don't seem to be coming anytime soon.

I have to say the main guy in book is kind of very romantic...in an obsessive stalker kind of way. I wish the drama will keep at least half of his super obsessive behavior...even though sometimes it is very extreme.

(Spoilers inside if you don't want to read)

Spoiler

For example... to atone for the pain his slap caused her....he forces a knife in her hand and makes her stab him.:crazy:

He is also an extremely obsessive lover...I mean he is insatiable:blush:...Poor girl is totally tired out before he's done.

I hope at least half the kisses make it on the screen.

I've read until chapter 42 and I have lost count of the kisses. There are too many and 3-4 bed scenes....til now.

@omiki

From what I read in the book ....he slapped her coz he and everyone else thought she pushed her stepmother to fall down the stairs and go into early labor. But he regretted it immediately coz he hit her so hard that blood started to come out of her mouth. He came to his senses and saw she was already in a shock. Later that night he got drunk and asked his friend to punch his face hard...when his friend refused he smashed a glass with his hand to hurt himself.

I'm not sure if that baby died or not or if her little brother is that baby...born prematurely.

@thunderman1

I don't know if the drama weakened her character but in the book she's pretty head strong and has a cynical personality. Before her accident she was a quiet person who avoided complications but she changed completely afterwards. She doesn't trust XC and makes him work his a.s.s off for her love...she doesn't just go soft and accept him when she finds out he was the one who helped her when she was blind. Because she realized how manipulating his actions were. He had a hand in lives of everyone around her...her room-mate, her doctor, her friends.

Sorry for jumping in so suddenly....I just started watching the drama....on epi 2 right now. Even after watching just 1 episode I can see they changed a lot of things.

Hi all, happy to jump aboard this ship! I think so far, I really like An Jie as a character. She is unyielding and doesn't let herself be bullied. To protect herself, she bares her fangs and it has inflicted damage on almost everyone around her. But what I like about this drama is that there isn't any misunderstanding towards An Jie - everyone in her family knows that she is reacting out of hurt and she isn't that unfeeling. But she is cute in that she almost always regrets baring her fangs and she berates herself afterwards. xP

One gripe though - this show is moving really slow... Xi Xi Chen is still mopey about his feelings and doesn't tell her how he truly feels. I am at episode 18 and their relationship has finally progressed in that she finally has an awareness around him. But things between them are still friendly and they are both pretty careful around each other. And OMG THE EX BOYFRIEND'S SCENES richard simmons ME OFF! Hahaha. He doesn't add to the story at all. Other than being "oh I need to get An Jie back into my life", there really isn't much to his lines. And then the ex friend who is in love with the ex-boyfriend. Their scenes are sooooo predictable...

And is the stepmother evil?! What could she possibly want though? So far, I just see her as being really careful around An Jie and I sense some disapproval from her about Xi Xi Chen towards An Jie. But maybe that's cuz she cares for An Jie and she doesn't think XXC is right for her? I don't know. She seems nice and really supportive.

Little stepbrother is cute!!! He is Yu Wen Yue's adopted son from Princess Agents! Hehehe. So cute. Ahhhh.

Also, in defense of the female lead, she barely know the main guy. She had literally one conversation with him where she lent him her umbrella. To her, he is the nephew of the stepmother. He is someone who slapped her even though they barely knew each other.

He had a one-sided crush on her for ages - he saw her at the cemetery and at the Jian household often. But because of her shy/aloof personality, she doesn't talk to him and just doesn't really see him. I know of people who are genuinely like that - they are really nice to people they know but they don't really notice anyone beyond that. He calls her "Miss Jian" and not "An Jie". This shows that they are not close at all (especially before she left for France). Do you expect her to be nice to the stranger who happens to live in her house when she can't even bring herself to be nice to her real family?

Just my two cents'! :tongue:

I'm at eps 16 now, and eps 11-15 were baffling in terms of editing. It felt like many scene had been cut which are kind of irony considering the drama's slow pace. But eps 16 was like somebody flipping a switch, like finally i can start to enjoy this.

It was funny, cute, and endearing. And the female lead no longer bare her fang every single time.

The step mother start to show us that she didn't really like the female lead, although was it pure malice or just cause of the past conflict, still a mystery.

Oh, and the ex-boyfriend still makes me want to roll my eyes.....

Oh I forgot to mention the editing is extremely choppy. Some of the scenes didn't connect at all. Or should I say the transitioning sucks.

They hit it off in ep 21 fyi. :wink: Lots of lovey dovey scenes to move forward... the drama is picking up in terms of pace.

After watching 10 episodes...I'm pretty disappointed with how they have toned down An jie's character...even Xi XiChen....which is such a pity. The drama makes her seem like a spoiled bratty girl who shows attitude to her nice family. Her behaving like a victim makes her seem so pathetic. In the book her character never acted like a victim. After she comes back six years later...her father and stepmother actually feel regretful towards her about how they blamed her for her stepmother's accident. Her father tries hard to make it up to her but he always does the wrong thing and drives her away even more. Those six years living alone made her close her heart off to her family. She was even very abrupt with her brother when she first met him. Her brother kept coming to her room at night and sleeping on her bed. The scene on the breakfast table when her brother asks her about using left hand...and she tells him off....this was in the drama. But I think they removed this next part.... When XXC reminds her he's a child and her brother she harshly tells him I have no brother. During one fight with her father she actually told him she sometimes wanted to kill him.

I think drama creators may have felt she was too harsh and people won't like her. But it's actually the opposite for me...I like the book An jie....but the drama An jie is getting on my nerves. Maybe it's the actress....I didn't like her portrayal of XuXu in 'snail' either.

Also just to let you guys know why she pushed her stepmother in the first place.......An Jie has a kind of a thing....about being touched. It's not exactly a phobia...but she doesn't like it when people she's not close with, touch her. She's had it since childhood, I think. Thats why when her stepmom grabbed her hand and wouldn't let go she kind of pushed her to let her off....which then resulted in the accident.

So what on earth were these writers thinking....that dumbing down the heroine would make people like her and think she's cute.:huh: What the hell was that in episode 18? Why was she acting like a clumsy kid when she was cleaning and washing dishes? Wasn't she living alone for years when she was sent abroad? Doesn't a person living alone for that long, learn at least a thing or two about doing dishes and dusting?

I mean come on:rolleyes:.....my brother in law who never once made anything except instant coffee in his life, lived alone for 10 months when he went to join his new company in another city on the other side of the country....and he came back a neat freak and could cook at least 5 dishes....and an awesome cup of tea. :lol:

I just keep getting more and more upset whenever they show An Jie doing stupid stuff....I don't think I will be able to complete this drama. The writing in this drama is getting so lame. The writers didn't even had to try...they had everything in the source material. The book is not outstanding or anything but its a pretty good romance.

If you guys need any spoilers from the book just tag me.

I will be honest... this is a drama adaptation and won't follow the novel exactly but comes close. Also, I would say I only watched this drama only for the female lead since I liked her in Snail.. as for the male lead, he is very good looking in my eyes. :)

I'm watching for the guy:blush:. I've never seen this actor before but I liked him from the clips. Thats why even though I couldn't get what was happening I was interested enough to watch it. Basically I'm plodding through the drama because of him.:wub:

 It's hard to understand a drama especially if it's not sub. From the story plot. I thought it would be good.. at least.

I've been wanting to watch a drama similar to LMIYD.I don't think this is that drama, tbh. Hardly at all. So I'll keep checking for other drama

okie i gotta say something i tried the episodes but to me the story a lil bland.....and yes the An Jie hold herself aloof others....it was like they are always at a conflict in their own action....heart stated one thing but action another....and then you have the characters berating themselves why....oh why ....why do i do that....and then the next thing u know....the same circle happen again :x

I stopped at ep 30.. too late to stop now.. lol

The transitioning is really bad but for some reason I still keep watching.

Can someone give spoiler from the book? Did an jie get angry at Xi Chen after she found he i elvis?  Cause he has lied to her etc. How did they reconcile again?  Thankssss

@dito

Lots of spoilers inside...

Spoiler

She pretty much remained as aloof as usual. She was not mad but she wanted to keep him away from her. Because she was worried after she found out how much he had manipulated her life...how involved he was in her life. Her roommate was dating his employee...so he could get all the information about her. Her doctor.... She was told her doctor who treated her had been doing work in a volunteer clinic in the country but her aunt found out she was a specialist from America who was paid handsomely and was especially called over for AnJie. She was asked to give a fake volunteer story for her presence in france so AnJie wouldn't have to pay her tons of money for months of treatment. An Jie had by that time cut all contact with her father and changed her number.

In the book she finds out XiChen was Elvis when she comes back to france(In the book it was france she was sent to). She left home after a fight with her father because he was matchmaking her with some company heir for business gains or something. XiChen followed her to france. She told him she was leaving france and move to finland to live with her aunt and be near her mother(her mother was alive in the book) and also restart her studies there(She studied law in the book). XiChen got into an accident because of that and she delayed her departure to stay with him in the hospital. She leaves as soon as he wakes up. While packing her stuff she found Elvis's coat. Actually it had all the clues by which she could have connected Elvis to XiChen ...like some credit cards, address of a pub, some sketches of her sitting and walking around and his notes on them of her movements when he used to follow her around before coming to her as elvis. But she forgot about it when she recovered her sight. When she went to leave the coat with the bartender at the pub and she was told elvis was his boss but the bartender refused to keep the coat when he saw the credit cards inside. She got the name of the hotel and room number from him and went to return the coat and confirm her suspicions about XiChen being Elvis...but she saw him with a woman in his room and immediately turned and left. When Xichen comes to her she tells him she is leaving for finland the next day. When he starts to clarify about the woman...she makes it clear she never asked about the woman because she was not interested. He gets a bit mad and a bit physical with her but the place they were standing at was a part of a ruins which collapses and they both get trapped inside the tunnel under it. While looking for a way out they have a little fight and he asks her what he should do so that she would forgive him for the slap. She tells him somethings can never be forgiven. So he takes out a pocket knife and forces it in her hand and then forces her hand to stab himself with it.:crazy:

At first she thinks it's a small wound and he's faking the pain. So he says yes I'm faking it to gain your sympathy. But she notices he kept faltering in his steps and almost faints. She shouts at him that he promised to get her out which gets him moving again. When they reach the door....he tells her to go through first as he needs to recover his breath or something...when she's outside, the door starts to close and she realizes the door will close as soon as you let go of the lever thats why he stayed behind to hold it open for her.

She calls the paramedics and he's taken to the hospital and saved. I think they get together after that. She gives in to him but she still doesn't trust him completely. And he's always afraid she will leave him for the ex...or because of his obsessive ways. She also later finds out XiChen kept her ex-bf from coming after her when she was first sent away to france. Another thing she found out was XiChen manipulated her father and the board to get the control of his company as a kind of revenge against her father for sending her away. The biggest scare he got was when she accidentally hears her stepmother's message for XiChen and learns her stepmother had asked XiChen to go to france and get close to AnJie. Her stepmother didn't know XiChen was planning to do that in the first place.

As I said I like the book AnJie very much. She never cries and plays the victim. She took her time to tell XiChen she loves him and pretty much kept him always worrying she might leave him for the ex....but maybe that was not her fault but his obsessive and possessive nature. She never gave her ex any indication she would even consider getting back with him. She always kept him at a distance and the only time she herself went looking for him was when his sister died.

The AnJie in the drama seems to be getting swayed every time her ex tells her some sad story. Her Ex, the YaLi girl, her family, The girl crazy over XiChen all these feel too much. And I don't understand why every couple needed to have a love triangle making a mess of everything. I like XiChen's friend and actually want AnJie's friend to end up with him. AnJie's cousin is an idiot and doesn't deserve her.

Xi Chen was busy taking over An Jie's father company and plotting the downfall of An Jie's stepmother who was the culprit in causing the death of both his parents. He thought that An Jie will trust him. He miscalculated. By not telling An Jie his plans, An Jie was suspicious if he had any ulterior motive in getting close to her. The misunderstanding was further compounded when Xi Chen missed an appointment with An Jie to explain to her.

I blame Xi Chen for the communication breakdown between him and An Jie. After gaining her love and doing so much for her and no matter how busy he is, he should have find time to tell An Jie his plans and assure her.

In the preview, An Jie saw the text messages between Xi Chen and her step mother in which the step mom reminded Xi Chen to get close to An Jie. Xi Chen replied that he will definitely make An Jie fall for him and the step mom said that they will split 50-50 after taking over An Jie's father company. Xi Chen then replied that the split should be 60-40 as he has to sacrifice a lot as he has to act and is very tiring in order to get close to her.

I guess the above the definitely an misunderstanding as it may be an old message where Xi Chen was trying to  gain the trust of the An Jie's step mom. In the preview, An Jie quarreled with her father and with the disappointment with Xi Chen, she left the family and disappeared. Xi Chen was seen desperately trying to find her.

We have to see tomorrow what actually happened.

I really hope not. Even though she really cares for Ye Li and was there for him all the time, basically she isn't a very nice person in how she played out An Jie.

The other person whom I don't want to have a happy ending is Piao Chen's ex-first love. I hope she gets married to the playboy. If that playboy didn't change as promised he will continue to be a player and will abuse her if she tries to control him. She can't do anything about it because she depended on him for a living. Serves her right for being a gold digger.
