Thank you so much for the explanation. Could I also ask you what was the exchange between the emperor and Ming Yue's father before she killed herself on the same episode 50?

Spoiler

It was implied that the king killed Ming Yue's father in the end. The exchange was very cryptic and needs to be understood with earlier and later scenes. The king just said that he missed chen zheng (chai mu original name) all these years and now that he has brought down the gao clan, he can live his life as chen zheng. Chai Mu replied Chen zheng died a long time ago and chai mu will disappear soon too.

From what I understood very subtlely, the king did not like the fact that Ming Yue, Chai Mu and LCY deceived him and could potentially pose as a threat to his throne. He probably thinks with Chai Mu gone, he would not have any influence over LCY. The king is actually very cautious of powerful clans. When LCY visited Gao in prison, he asked Gao why would he kill his mothers family. Gao just laughed at him and said he is smart but also a fool, how could he have brought the strong Gu family down with the Gao family barely having any power at that time. Subtlely implying that the king had an implicit hand in it too. Hence, LCY was very disappointed with his father at his sick bed.

The beauty of this drama, all the subtlety...

This is my interpretation to that ending:

LCY left everything behind in search for XF (all rugged, which signify that he cares no more about appearance to other people, unlike before, where he's always plotting for something and pretending. Now he is just...himself.).

XF is waiting for him, all in red, just like how they first met (she is free, wearing Xi state clothes which she is proud of)

I think at some point, LCY will die in his search (well, it is a desert, and he doesnt seem to be all equiped with camel, assistant, water, survival kit and stuff. He even seem to have only one clothes -the one he is wearing). He will die there in the desert and unite with XF finally (because it was depicted that she was waiting for him on the desert, looking at him)

Yes, me too! I like to think that she waited for him....and he finally found her in the after life. Sad ending.... but it left me with the impression that they were finally going to be together

OMG, thank so very much for the detailed clarification of that exchange and for also adding what Gao said to LCY in prison. I was also wondering about that. You are so right about all the subtlety being part of the beauty of this drama! I wished my Chinese were as good as yours to understand it without subs and thank you again for being so generous in sharing!

I have just watched ep 52 and I think it is well deserved. Surprisingly, I dont consider it so heartbreaking. (SPOILER ALERT)

The last scene goes like this: LCY set on a one way trip to bring back what was lost, leaving everything behind, and with a glimpse of young XF in red, looking from a distance.

I think it hints a good  ending for both!

I think it is all good.

Yes, she died. But at least she died knowing that the one she loves the most is alive, has his memory back, truly loves her, and will keep his promise to live on and lead a good life (and tormented, to pay for the heartbreak he caused her)

Yes, he felt heartbroken with her passing, and live a lonely life without XF. But it is well deserved indeed. Besides, they unite eventually (if not, they would just end the last scene with him walking on the desert, without having to show XF wearing red, sitting there, looking at him from a distance as if waiting for him!)

This is good enough for me. Besides, before, LCY did have a lot of debt to pay anyway: annihilation of Danchi tribe, locking XF in Li Empire, making her believe all those times that his heart belongs to someone else...to name a few.

Now all debts are settled, all promises have been kept, he is free to be with her, and be truly free and happy.

Side note, and not necessarily related to the story:

- CXX does have lovely hands. I dont really consider CXX as out-of-this-world- handsome though. But perhaps that is because I have a nephew who looks just like him. I was shocked when he finally took off his braces and looked somewhat like CXX. LOL) Hovever, I think PXR is also really really pretty. Dont you think so too?

- I think both CXX and PXR has done a great job for this drama! More than their looks, they acted really well and gave it their all. Love the cinematography as well. Good job.

- looking forward for PXR-CXX next collab!

I completely agree with everything you said. Also, CXX does have lovely hands and even though he is not super handsome, he is an amazing, charismatic actor. I became his fan!

I personally think CXX is very handsome...not the classic handsome but the handsome because of everything, from his height, beautiful hands, his beauty mark on the top right of his lip to the way how he walk and carry himself. His cute/ fun personality and to his amazing acting ability.

So I have to say everyone have their own definition of handsome but to me that's my kind of handsome lol. Every things have to be included in the package not just the looks.

CXX is definitely a worthy gift that comes with many layers to unwrap. The more you unwrap the more you'll uncover the hidden surprise. And I think people are more attract to these type of guys nowadays then the straight up pretty face but boring afterwards.

Very happy with the ending, I don't shed a drop of tear for LCY.

Indeed, he's like his father, if you want power, you have to be evil, since you're evil, you'll never find happiness in your life, that's your karma.

You reap what you sow, no matter what the reason behind that.

He just got popular and not yet rich, so people still can get that close to him, wait until his career peak, the girls only can get close to his bodyguards and he won't be too friendly either.

Seems like u disliked the character he played, but that doesn’t mean the actor is the same. CXX is born rich LoL but he received proper educations and behavior. Many celebs I know who got famous and rich still are friendly. Bodyguards is a must,  u can see how dangerous it is while CXX is trying to go out but surrounded by a bunch of people.

CXX’s wish was not to be famous but actually to be recognized as a proper actor. Don’t be too critical abt his future:))

Thanks to all for the enormous work in this forum! I have always felt the warmth with which you have provided the information you had at your disposal. Thank you.

I have seen the images of the end and now I will wait to see it with subtitles in Spanish.

It is a wonderful drama and the ending seems correct.

XF pays with her death what she considers to be her fault: having taken GXW to her grandfather's camp causing the destruction of her family and her people.

And LCY dies of old with nothing for what he fought all his life, not even the woman he loved.

It is a politically correct ending. The truth is that it does not satisfy me because nothing that XF and LCY did during their life served. They fought and tolerated too much to never have a brilliant moment.

XF can not change the story of what happened to her people. Although I understood that she makes promise to LCY that he would not get closer to her land, but nothing change the story or guarantees that another emperor will not do it. LCY fought for a lot of things and in the end he ended up with nothing. They were two lives full of suffering without ever achieving any happiness.

I do not have enough with the image of the desert in which he looks for her and she seems to be waiting for him.

My only criticism is to the writers and producers: if the drama was going to end badly they should have given the viewer more images of happy moments of the couple. Maybe like the ones they had at the beginning in State Xi.

What I rescue most from this drama is that I manage to mobilize the feelings of the spectator

Thanks for all the work. And maybe I'll change my opinion when I see the chapters to the end with subtitles.

Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina

The emperor just went crazy after Ming Yue killed herself and the baby in her tummy. LCY told his father that he has never ever treated him as a son ever since young because he was worried that LCY would be closer to the Gao clan. It is only now when he is old he feels like a father. He also said that his father was the one who taught him to be manipulative with people he loved and that was what he inherited from his father. In all his glory during the emperor's rein manipulating and being extra wary of people, he probably never would have expected to have fallen (sick) over an escort(mingyue) *and an unborn child. Basically LCY telling his dad that he vows not to be like him in the future and will be a good king...

@nuttyz But you can't help becoming you are based on the environment that you are in, and in a strange sense, he has suffered the same ending as his father.

@gsmith you hit the nail on the head - and I have highlighted that portion (thanks @USAFarmgirl!) - yes, LCY fought for his revenge and ended up with NOTHING.  As the Klingons stated in Star Trek, "revenge is a dish best served cold" -  and indeed, because you are left with NOTHING.

Wow! Just watching bits and pieces from here and there since there is no English sub in Viki yet. The acting of CXX & PXR are superb. I can't believe Chinese dramas are addicting as well. I would be looking forward for these two to take big roles in the future and be recognized in this specific drama that they portrayed.

Thank you chingus for sharing videos and updates...

@enigmatic_zephy  because history proves true - you end up trusting TOO MUCH when you love and when you have to maintain the august quality of the throne and its institutional power, you cannot afford to love and trust TOO MUCH.  We don't need LCY and XF to tell us that - just look at Roman history and Chinese history.

@nuttyz but all this subtlety is purposeful in power dynamics - that is one of the most successful ways to flesh out your enemies - each person will interpret to his/her own advantage and purpose.

Xiao Feng's sword scene at the end with english subs.

Thank you for the sub.

LCY said he will die with her if she dies. Too bad she made him promise to live on.

Also, I have to to agree with everyone if they just gave us a little more of cute scenes of the main couple then I would feel more satisfied with the ending. I feeling like the romance was on a shallow level when they were at the palace and don’t feel too sad abt XF death as much. It’s not the actors fault but the editing department.

But, all in all they did really well bez they had great chemistry and great acting. Just would like to had more time with the main leads. I will start looking out for CXX dramas now on. Haha

See everyone in the drama. :-)
