Actress Kim Sa Rang will be stepping down from tvN’s “Mr. Sunshine” due to health concerns.

It was initially reported on February 12 that the actress would be leaving Kim Eun Sook’s upcoming drama due to her health. The production staff confirmed the news and added, “We respect her decision as her health is of the utmost importance.”

They also stated, “We have not yet found someone to take on her role. With filming set to start this month, we will do our best to find a new actress and stay on schedule.”

“Mr. Sunshine” will be a drama that follows a young boy who travels to the United States during the 1871 Shinmiyangyo [U.S. expedition to Korea], and returns to his homeland later as an American soldier. It will be the third production helmed by Kim Eun Sook and director Lee Eung Bok following “Descendants of the Sun” and “Goblin,” and the cast includes Lee Byung Hun, Kim Tae Ri, Yoo Yeon Seok, Byun Yo Han, and Jo Woo Jin.

The drama is set to air in early July.

Now they are doing the right thing. The new lead actress is 35yrs which suits the age of the male lead 47 even though there is still 11yrs gap but it now look balanced. I'm very positive that was why the lady walked away. 20yrs difference is no joke at all. Doesn't make sense. It gave me the goblin vibe

On February 15th, tvN Station and Naver TV Cast aired the very first trailer of "Mr. Sunshine" that is about minute and a half long. As soon as the trailer was aired, the video received hundreds of comments and likes.

"Mr. Sunshine" has been gathering attention from the viewers ever since the drama was announced. Over the course of time, expectations for "Mr. Sunshine" seems to be climbing higher with each additional news release. Having Director Lee Eung-bok and screenwriter Kim Eun-sook, the duo behind popular drama "Goblin", was enough to make "Mr. Sunshine" amazing, but the "Mr. Sunshine" team wanted the best of everything - they enhanced the quality of the drama with some of the finest actors of the era: Lee Byung-hun, Kim Tae-ri, and Yoo Yeon-seok.

The netizens were hyped by this stellar casting. Now with the newest trailer released on the 15th, "Mr. Sunshine" is about to prove that these high expectations won't be in vain.

The netizens are praising Director Lee Eung-bok's skills as the outstanding mise-en-scene (setting) powerfully grabs attention, leaving viewers speechless with its grand opening. Even from this short trailer, the netizens are already convinced that "Mr. Sunshine" will hit the drama world even bigger than "Goblin" did. Some of the comments on the trailer reads,

"Look at the mise-en-scene of this drama. Lee Eung-bok pours his soul in it yet again".

"Can't wait 'till July for this drama".

"The quality of this drama looks better than "Goblin" and that's amazing".

Along with the beautiful scenery, composition, tone and costuming, "Mr. Sunshine"'s cast members are earning praise on their own. There have been concerns over the huge age difference between Lee Byung-hun and Kim Tae-ri, but after watching the little snippets of their acting, netizens agreed that this unexpected couple will create a huge chemistry storm.

"Mr. Sunshine" is a romance, but it will also focus on humanity and a painful part of Korean history.

Lee Byung Hun’s and Kim Tae Ri’s “Mr.Sunshine” first trailer was released.  It is comparable to an epic movie and sent out super shock waves.

 (a translation)

ms46.jpg

“Mr. Sunshine”, a joint collaboration between screenwriter Kim Eun Sook and director Lee Eung Bok, released the first version of the trailer.  It lasted 1 minute and 25 seconds.  Each shot has a sense of texture and dramatic tension, multiplying audience anticipation.

“Mr.Sunshine” is about the story of a slave-born teenager who boarded a warship and went to the United States.  After he grew up, he returned to Korea as a US soldier at the time when Korea was invaded by foreign governments.

Lee Byung Hun plays the protagonist Choi Yoo Jin, currently an officer of the U.S. Marine Corps; Kim Tae Ri plays Go Ae Shin, the last descendant of the scholar and bureaucrat Go clan; Yoo Yun Suk plays Goo Dong Mae, the son of a butcher and the president of the Black Dragon Society of the Capital; Byun Yo Han plays Kim Hee Seung who proposed to Go Ae Shin; Kim Min Jung plays the role of Glory Hotel Boss, Hina.

Previously, owing to the rather large age differences between the two main leads, and other reasons, there were questions about this drama.  However, after the release of the first trailer, netizens found the production magnificent, sophisticated and the trailer comparable to a movie trailer, making them cannot help but look forward  to the drama.

This drama, co-created  by Kim Eun Sook and Lee Eung Bok who collaborated on “Descendents of the Sun”,  “Goblin” will be broadcasted this July by tvN.

Maybe the backlash was too much for her. I wouldn't blame her either.  They have to look for another lead actress but they should consider  age too. The male lead is still a middle aged man.

Looks like you confused Kim Sa Rang/Kim Min Jung (female second lead) with Kim Tae Ri (female first lead)? So the age difference between the first leads is still there (at least the female lead is a real adult and not a high schooler who even acts way younger than her age).

Leaked description of Kim Tae Ri’s character in Mr Sunshine - Go Ae Shin

Also read: Yoo Yeon Seok’s | Byun Yo Han’s | Kim Min Jung’s | (at the moment, Lee Byung Hun’s role description hasn’t been leaked yet)

Go Ae Shin, 28 years old (Actress Kim Tae Ri)

Every other day, all sort of scandals came knocking. 28 years old Ae Shin has already passed the marriageable age for quite some time now, since in the land of Joseon, one is considered as a spinster if she has passed the age of 15.

This is all because of Hee Sung.

Hee Sung was the person whom Ae Shin was supposed to marry, the guy she was betrothed to at the age of 15, set by both of their grandfathers. She had never seen the face of her betrothed - she heard the news from her grandfather that he has left to study abroad in Japan. Seeing how her aunt is showing endless jealousy towards her prospective marriage candidate, she wondered what kind of person the guy is.

And seeing how he never came to see her, not in even once in over a decade, it seems like he lived his life while forgetting about her, and obviously she was going to live while forgetting about him too. When it’s like this, she wishes for him to never come back.

tumblr_inline_p4no3raGYV1qassi4_540.jpg

She had to fight with her grandfather for a month for it, and though it was unfortunate that she had to be accompanied by a manservant and a servant girl Bong Soon when going to school, it was all thanks to that modern school where daughters of the ‘peasants’ were attending that she came to learn about 'I’m a girl. Boys be ambitious’.

Someone in school said that now was the romantic era. Ae Shin agreed that it was. But Ae Shin’s romanticism wasn’t about coffee, western clothing nor imported goods, but her romanticism was about those rifles made in Russia.
That was the intense romanticism that she, the 'Aegisshi’ of Joseon’s most prominent aristocratic family, wished to have.

Was it because of her father’s blood that was spilled for the sake of the country? Was it because of her beloved mother’s ardor towards such a man?

No matter how she think of it, there was no way that only Boys can be having ambitions.

Men who cherished her as if she’s a flower were boring, and rather than being a blooming flower ready to wither, she would prefer being the most furious flame.

tumblr_inline_p4np72N70x1qassi4_540.jpg

On the day Ae Shin’s grandfather discovered her secret collections of 'Hanseong Sunbo’ (nation’s first newspaper) and 'Doknip Newspaper’ in her room, there was sorrow in his eyes, instead of anger.

It all started from that day when she met a gunner when running an errand for her grandfather who wanted to eat meat from 'Maejjimsung’. Her grandfather’s request was only one. For her to stay alive.

From that day on, Kang gunner became a teacher to the 19 years old Ae Shin. Kang gunner taught her how to deal with gunpowder and different kind of guns, and taught her gun training. Nine years later, Ae Shin has never missed her targets.

It was at the moment when Hansung’s (one of Seoul’s old names) first streetlight was turned on that Ae Shin first met a guy who is not dull. He’s egoistic, he’s cold yet warm, and he came from the America. A man who was a stranger in her life, Yoo Jin.

Ae Shin eanerstly wished that the man’s heart would not be her target.
