All of those emotions probably. Apprehensive at first because of the elders gathered, initial confusion once the Japanese entered, giving way to her regal anger at their audacity and ending with inner relief to see Eugene saunter in on his horse. And I do think that as soon as Eugene spoke about the American legation needing to talk to her, she must have realized that he was doing this for her protection. Notice her face after she tells Ms. Haman to fetch her sedan chair, she looks up at Takashi with a mixture of mocking and smugness.

@mistergenie Well-said. I think she's also a bit baffled seeing someone who's in command and young like Takashi Mori can be so disrespectful and inconsiderate. Supposedly a friend of Eugene but lacking any basic decency. She's also careful not to disclose any obvious connection with Eugene except a professional one. Seeing how AS stated her opinion in English clearly, there's definitely a hint of

pride on EC's face.

 

Of course, after all that 'drama'.. comes the LOL moments..

She did realize that EC was trying to protect her by taking her in as stated in their conversation. There's a instant recap where EC was saying about "protecting her, because i can", which happened to be in delegation as well over the missing gun event ROFL

I just drop here to say hi to everybody and say how much i love this drama especially the trio bromance and the chemistry.. tbh, i find that Eugene-AeShin chemistry is just so so, but i really like Gu Dong Mae and Hui Seong chemistry with everyone.. hopefully this drama will have a happy ending to everyone..

Respectfully disagree about the bold part though, hehe. I find their chemistry blooming. The subtleness of their relationship is just so tickling. And it seems they have advanced further as portrayed by Ep 18. How they casually find comfort in one another, hold hand naturally, and kneel down over his girl to explain the whole situation of his grandpa whil calming her down and assure nth bad gonna happen to him (grandpa)? I'm not sure if it's a new coffee product introduced through MR.SUNSHINE for the public or just a limited promo item for the drama but it is a pre-mixed coffee + sugar. A lot of people have shared about the coffee on IG.

 

Obviously it doesn't exist in the early 1900s.. just for the drama. Realistic or not, it is what it is... 

 

I think they made it round in shape for the drama but commercially sold in a cube form instead.

@kansas424Ah! Good find about that young noble disguised as a Japanese soldier. EC did keep saying to AS that he was training her future comrades. So far, I have been pretty lukewarm to the introduction of the young nobles but now I am really curious to see how they factor into the story - could this be a mission on behalf of RA/King or part of some personal mission of Eugene/Ae shin?

From my view, I think Kyle is someone who's regarding Eugene as American, tying Eugene to his american identity, as well as someone who can protect Eugene from Allen and US treating Eugene expendable. There was also Joseph, but he died. Takashi also keeps calling Eugene american, but that comes from his want to use Eugene from my view. So, only in pure sense, at the moment Kyle is the only one who's regarding Eugene as american without hidden goals. If Eugene loses Kyle, either by death or betrayal, that'll be huge hit to Eugene's american identity.(And power he can wield as american will be reduced significantly)

LJM said Hina he found her mother's whereabouts, but nothing else. Later Hina alluded to haedrio agency bros stop searching for her mother, saying she may be in unreachable place. Interesting that this photo of Ae Shin and the 2 (Japanese) soldiers were released sometime ago, then we had some discussion about the uniform and the time-frame.. wasn't it. Now that there're those new Joseon recruits being trained by Eugene, almost toward the end of the drama.. it has to be some relevancy between the two. Maybe, if it's indeed the student.. maybe he quit or got kicked out and Colonel Mori made him an offer he can't resist.

 

However, as we all know.. previews for MR.SUNSHINE.. in whatever format are not to be believed 100%.

I think these young lads will form a new RA under Eugene's watch. They wont be under direct command of the king though imo. 

Cant wait to see all these unfold. There were talks about this young lad is modeled after the first korea prime minister,

Very good points about Kyle and the importance of his presence to Eugene. In a way, he is Eugene's safety net of sorts.

Regarding Kyle: I don't think he'll betray Eugene in any way. He's so far been under the radar despite being the commanding officer. If anything.. he'd fight & die for EC who had saved his life before. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Meanwhile, I want to offer up some clarification on what Joseon people would think about DM cutting AS's hair. Especially about this theory,

 

1. Cutting hair as means to declare independence/cutting ties with parents.

 

Nope. Keeping hair was considered as a part of filial duty, but there was never any meaning of independence in cutting hair. Even after 1900s, who cut their hairs did it for practicality and accepting new western culture, not for any declaration of dependence. For cutting ties with parents, in rare cases parents can do it(some unadopted their new short hairstyled adoptped sons, and some known to cut finance for their sons education after son cutting topknot, and that doesn't mean cutting ties here either), but never a child. If a person declare to cut ties with his/her parents, he/she will be regarded something really bad in Joseon society.

 

And if you remember, AS's father fashioned short-hair as well as his RA friends. and the family ties were intact.

 

2. Then what purpose DM could get out of cutting hair.

 

Public humiliation is probably the biggest reason. In usual Joseon household, woman will be held responsible for such accident/event happened to her and more than likely be grounded with her and her close servants. So DM could achieve the purpose of keeping her inside the house. That is, if grandpa Go decide to do so, or all the relatives raise up enough fuses to persuade grandpa Go.

I would like to add my thoughts on Kyle:

 

He is someone who supports and likes Eugene because the latter saved his life on the battlefield.   While he is aware that the US is indifferent to the fate of Joseon because the US is more interested in the Philippines, he had helped Eugene in three occasions:

 

1.  He helped the girl (an RA member) who worked as a Geisha to escape to Shanghai.

2.  He advised Eugene to return the infamous bank letter to Joseon.  (In doing so, Eugene was smart enough to use that letter as a weapon to take revenge on Lee Se Hoon who caused the deaths of Eugene's parents.

3.  Kyle helped Eugene to insist upon continuing the investigation of Joseph's death to established his innocence.

 

I hope Kyle will continue to help Eugene.  Eugene is surrounded by enemies, he truly needs a powerful friend!

Don't know if this makes any sense.. but Kim Hee Sung and his father have for years sporting a short hairstyle & western top hat, even when his grandfather was still alive. Their family is still as 'perfect' in their own way. Maybe because HS was a male heir and it's probably better & easier that way for him to study in Japan. But nothing was said about him as a lesser Joseon man (for instance) or having been kicked out of the family because of the haircut. However, for a female heir like Lady Ae Shin, even as the biological granddaughter she wouldn't even inherit anything if Lord Go passes away. If her own personal right as a woman is taken from her, isn't that too cruel.
