Plus the ED also said that he was forgiving (?) towards the palace servants whenever they made a mistake. However, being a kind Emperor doesn't necessarily make you a good ruler. I say this because he was about to make the heir from the Yong (?) family the Emperor supposedly. Yes, the Yong family had lots of power and connections and we didn't get to see much as of them,  so I can't have quite an accurate grasp of the personality of the Yong heir. However, what I can say is they did abuse power and justice. For example, they had a noble daughter (I don't know her name) kidnapped, raped and made a mockery in the crowds when she was thrown out simply on the basis that the Yong/third princess wants to marry QH. They refused the other family justice in finding the culprit (for obvious reasons) due to their might, connection and power. Furthermore, they held QH's father captive (QH's mother even begged the ED) and threatened QH with ML and her family's disappearance. QH even laughed when he said something along the lines of what has the world/country become with future rulers like this ... ED seems to have ignored/not known this about the Yong family which she has a lot of support from in the current palace politics. If you read this all, thanks it's quite rambly and disjointed at times but I find it interesting. 

 

Thanks for mentioning about the palace politicking.I initially thought that GTY and prince Huan had a plan in place for bringing the downfall of ED but not so sure right now.

They did plot to steal the jade seal from her and are aware of her intentions.It seems from the conversation between GTY and prince Huan after MN incident that they are dodging her moves for now.

If it weren't for his ambitious son and GTY's coaxing don't think the current emperor would have ended on the throne.He is a guy who likes a peaceful life without complications.The palace just makes him walk a tight rope of maintaining his balance of power.Given a choice he would prefer the leisurely stroll among his wheat/paddy fields instead.

There was a mention in one of the earlier episodes by GTY that ED is stalling the reforms that emperor wants to implement.She has her own people in positions of power who are corrupt and is unwilling to let them go.

This Gu family members are simply horrible. Why is GTY still giving them face? Look at Sheng household.. very secretive. (Beating concubine Lin which led to her death and also punishing Molan's 2 childhood maids with death) 

 

Can't GTY be more firm in handling them (discretely). In this respect, I feel GTY is very weak. Yes of 'cos he has to be cautious of his position.. but there are so many ways esp him having so many people at his disposal to do all the dirty work for him. (eg banishing MN).

Finally the political aspect is starting to kick in. QH fairs way better as an antagonist to TY. I want to see his transition/change in attitude through the course of the drama, since his scenes mostly consist of hanging around his manor & hopelessly romanticizing ML.

 

Even his earlier interactions w/ ML is quite abysmal. During his family's predicament, I pity him. He's been a dull goodytwo shoes, so it will be interesting how he strays from that image & be more conniving & methodical in the political scene. QH's wife is quite witty herself. 

 

Since his initial appearance & into 40 episodes, his character development has been non-existent. Now that he's part of the imperial palace, it's going to be interesting how QH work his way in favor of the imperial/dowager's power.

What would you suggest him do? Kill them? Or imprison them? He's the head of the household now, he has to protect them whether he wants to or not. Anything bad happens to them, he could be implicated too, because technically, they are his responsibility. As long as they behave, there's no reason for him to handle them. MN commits grave crimes towards him, he and ML didn't even dare to touch a hair on her head, but she still manage to bite him in the behind. Right now he can't afford to make any mistake with ED and QH watching him like hawks. Not to mention his scary stepmother, she's already gone around tarnishing him and his wife reputation, they don't need to give her more opportunities to harm them. Remember, the whole capital still thinks of her as a saint, if anything happens to her, it would definitely blamed on him. If he was alone, then he could be reckless, but he has a family now, ML would never let him do anything rash.

This drama is so nerve wrecking. I get anxious watching it. It's unpredictable too, which makes even more fun to watch. I want TY&ML to pull through together until the very end. 

 

QH still has ML in his heart grinds my teeth.  Move on dude. He's like a fly ready to be shoo away w/a bug swatter. He fails in comparison to TY. TY is an A+ in my book & exceeds in everyway character-wise.

I can't watch the stepmom scene.. She is despicable and the most evil character in this drama...what's more she is actually best friend with Auntie Kang, the equally detestable evil maniac character. I feel like slapping soundly both of them when they were gossipping at the house party. Or just ask ml to slap them for me. Ml slap is the best. The sound was crisp. The angle for her hand just high enough to give an optimum effect abd the location of slapping was exact.. Ha ha.

They're both so heinous. They try to kiss up to QH& his wife and TY & ML 'cus their dumbnut of a family is now in a rut. Such two-face rats. Just throw the whole Gu house away in the pigsty.

I dunno why ppl say ML is not jealous of GTY with another woman becos she does, only she didnt show it to GTY.

 

Here's my 2 cents...

First when the servants were sent by the Gu clan, there's a pretty Mingyue. She gave specific instruction not to let anyone including MY to go close to GTY's study nor his approximity, even if her excuse is she didnt trust all of them. And she told the girl her husband doesnt like her, which is true but GTY never tells her directly abt the girl. 

 

Then there's the palace girls whom the dowager ask her to take them to be GTY's concubine but she cleverly refused & suggested they shud be married off to the single young soldier captains, which the dowager reluctantly accept. Point is, her hubby never gets to see the girls when she made the decisions. (yes, way to go ML)

 

We know ML is someone who is very good at dodging & evading to avoid confrontation. However she is very clear & being trained from young that capable men in her era will have more than one woman in  his life & that's why granny wants her to marry a man without title but still  trained her  to control household & concubines. ML even told GTY if he wants to take in concubine in future please find someone who can lives in harmony with her. Afterall she is a concubine's daughter & understand not all concubines are vicious. Also she understands concubines have their circumstances too just like her mother, & so does her husband, even if he refuse to have concubine but if gifted by the king  he still has to accept. Thus all she wants is her husband to be fair. And since GTY doesnt have a concubine everyone keep sending & offering one to him & rather having someone send to GTY, it is better for her to find a girl of her liking, screen her to ensure she's free outside entaglement before sending her to her husband. Once he has a concubine it will quiet up people & wud leave them in peace. I think in her mind emotions such as love & body needs such as lust are 2 different things. However men with vast experience like GTY knew better. From the time he falls in love with ML long ago since she lecture him abt bringing up Rong'er the right way, he decided to clean up his messy life, & make himself worthy of ML in her & her family eyes, he has been true to her ever since. And having her body & soul is his greatest achievement & that he wudnt trade off with anything or anyone but ML doesnt know this. Of course young ML doesnt really understand it becos a concubine is just a higher level servant who serves her husband in bed. Even if she is jealous she wud be understanding & accomodotive becos she loves her husband, which likewise GTY doesnt understand.

 

Honestly I think ML IS jealous, that's why she quickly went to sleep & sleep like log, so that she didnt have to think what's happening in the other room & that morning will come quickly so GTY will be by her side by then. Its only GTY was being childish & petty since he was head over heels with ML that he wanted ML to be possesive just like him. Only he forgot ML is a woman, thus her jealousy is shown in a different way than a man. 

 

Anyway hats down to GTY, its not easy for a cat to refuse a fresh fish meat served right under his nose...He just made ML the happiest woman on earth

Omg QH was being so petty but when GTY was rubbing salt on his wounds and telling him how it is whether he keeps being in denial or not, he had to remind him and it hurt me to see QH cry. Because I can feel how much regret and resentment he must have for losing the love of his life.   If I think about it, it’s like the saying, we were destined to meet but not to be together.  I am a little at agitated with GTY, because I feel he should be a little sympathetic towards QH. But like I said he is an opportunist and a go getter. I understand QH can not trust GTY again. Although he prayed ML to have a good husband, the last person he wanted to take her away was someone who was close/related to him.... But in due time hope he gets a wake up call and let go his pain and just learn to accept that ML was the love that got away. Now that GTY has taken ML from QH and Dr He, all the more he should cherish and treasure ML. 

 

I feel so sad for GTY kids. So sad to be birth with evil mother. 

That sixth Liang has no idea. He really pushed the buttons. Lol SH has been kept in the dark far too long, good for him to realize that CL is not just a liar who played him but also a murderer and his daughter Molan as well.

I agree @greenwatch08, the dowager is ungrateful. It’s not like she doesn’t know GTY’s life has been hell. She just so greedy for power. Smh meh
