Plot

Uhm Bok-Dong was a cyclist in Korea during the Japanese colonial era. He competed against Japanese cyclists and won. He became a hero to the people in Korea.

Uhm-Bok-Dong-tp11.jpgRain and Kang So-Ra have been offered lead roles in new biopic film “Uhm Bok-Dong.” The film is based on the life Korean bicyclist Uhm Bok-Dong (1892-1951). He become a hero in Korea during the Japanese colonial era by winning many bicycle races. Currently, Rain and Kang So-Ra are positively considering the offers. Lee Beom-Soo is already cast to play supporting character Hwang Jae-Ho. His character is the coach of Uhm Bok-Dong. Celltrion Entertainment will produce the film which features Lee Beom-Soo as the company’s CEO. Filming for “Uhm Bok-Dong” is expected to begin sometime during the first half of this year.

Rain, Kang So Ra, Min Hyo Rin, and Park Jin Joo cast in upcoming film about heroic cyclist

An upcoming film based on the real life story of heroic cyclist Uhm Bok Dong has confirmed it's lead cast!

 

 

Rain will be taking up the role of Uhm Bok Dong, a cyclist whose career reigned from the 1910s-1930s in Korea, during a time when Japan attempted to conquer Korea and launched cycling competitions between Korean and Japanese cyclists, and Uhm Bok Dong was able to thwart Japan's plans by claiming the victory against competing Japanese cyclists. 
 
Actresses Kang So Ra, Min Hyo Rin, and Park Jin Joo have also been cast for the film, while actor Lee Bum Soo will not only take part in it's production, but also play the role of Uhm Bok Dong's mentor Hwang Jae Ho. 
 
'Uhm Bok Dong' will begin filming in April.

Rain, Kang So-ra lead ensemble cast for bicycling movie Uhm Bok-dong

For his first project after marriage, Hallyu singer-actor Rain (Come Back, Ajusshi) has chosen Uhm Bok-dong, a film set during the Japanese occupation era, about the titular character based on a real-life cyclist, who became a symbol of hope for the oppressed Korean people.

The movie will delve into how Uhm Bok-dong became such a beloved figure in Korea’s independence movement and it will also feature the freedom fighting group Euiyeoldan. Rain will play the people’s hero, cyclist Uhm Bok-dong, and Kang So-ra (Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho) has confirmed her role as the female lead. She will be reuniting with her Sunny friends Min Hyo-rin (Persevere, Gu Hae-ra) and Park Jin-joo (1% of Anything), who have also signed on to be in the film.

At Director Kim Yoon-sung’s request, actor Lee Beom-soo has agreed to try his hand at helping produce the film, and may even make a small cameo in it. Other actors who have joined the cast to play integral (although as-of-yet unannounced) roles in the film include Go Chang-seok (Kill Me, Heal Me) and Lee Kyung-young (D-Day), and Lee Shi-un (W—Two Worlds).

While the subject matter of the movie may be serious and heavy, just looking at the cast so far, especially with the addition of comedic actor Lee Shi-un and the Sunny girls, makes me think that we might be in for an uplifting, hopeful film. So if everything goes well, we could be in for a movie in the vein of Forrest Gump, which would be amazing.

Filming for Uhm Bok-dong will begin starting this April.
