Mystery Queen: Episode 1

Mystery Queen is a humorous, engaging watch with an intelligent heroine yearning to escape from the confines of her ordinary life, even if she has to do it secretly. I’m rooting for her to finally achieve her long-held dreams, even if she has to butt heads with a certain cranky hardboiled detective to do it. I’m looking forward to how this unconventional police procedural develops in the coming weeks.

Haha, the second episode was another really funny one. To me, it is unusual someone with such intelligence and deductive skills has to hide and do it in secret. Can you imagine if she could do it for real without hiding? It was too bad she had to pay off her sister-in-law to keep her cover intact. In some way, I bet @bebebisous33is like Yoo, she is always detecting each and everyone drama with her great analytical skill. This will be a fun drama to follow but I hope this thread is not ignored like the Chief Kim one. I bet the younger crime scene detective gathering information on the floor was one of two girls who visited the scarred, violent, but pretty-faced detective in the hospital. She was sure quick to point out his demotion. After these two episodes, it is clear the girl is the smart one but I think the manly detective will be able to deduce better later as he learns from her.

I love love love this drama. although i wanted to knock Yoo's head when she come near to the drug seller. that was dangerous. fortunately officer Kim was there or else she might get killed.

i like it when Yoo uses her ability to get 1st line on SALE, i want that skill too. lol

I really enjoyed this recap. I am so grateful that Dramabeans assigned Laica to write the article, not Girlfriday.

Ok I enjoyed the first two episodes but I'm just wondering Just who is her husband and when are they going to show him.. I mean she goes home from her friends place at night and hubby still  not home..

Based on the cops reaction when she mentioned her husbands name  and given the fact the former worked at the prosecutors office  I I think he knows her husband is either corrupt or having an affair. We know he is not a great husband in any case.  No love lost  between this couple.

I have just finished watching the first episode and I am loving it. crazy monkeyIt is a very good combination between crime and comedy. I really like the tone of this drama.... even the nagging mother-in-law is so funny. I am glad that @docster6 is there too.

dragonhiplz.gif?1 I'm so happy that you tagged me!  I was on the fence about watching this one, so thank you because I enjoyed the first 2 episodes. Count me in.:D

I am curious about the husband also. I want to know about their relationship. I can`t picture Seol ok as a prosecutor wife. When I think of prosecutors I imagine them in suits and our heroine doesn`t have a fashion sense at all. Even her mother in law is better dressed then her. :D I love her the way she is but I wonder how they are as a couple. We found out a little information. Her friend thinks that her mother in law/ his family is looking down on her because she doesn`t have a high education. But we also fund out that she was the one that financed his law school. From detective Ha`s reaction, he doesn`t like him very much. I am waiting to see what kind of person he is before I make a judgement. Seol Ok doesn`t like the housewife`s role, she needs a job and I want her to follow her passion for solving mystery cases. I already said this. If her family doesn`t want her to persue her dream, too bad. I want to see our heroine at the end of this series that she makes up her mind about her life and does openly what makes her happy.

@evie7 I am glad that I could convince you. I really like the humor and the characters.

@sava2sava I have the impression that her husband is an opportunist. It was mentioned that she helped him to become a prosecutor and it wasn't just financially. Yoo Seol Ok is intelligent and she helped him with his studies. This could be an explanation why her husband is against her working. He might be afraid that she becomes more successful.

So I watched the first two episodes and I really don't know yet. I wouldn't consider myself being hooked, but I will watch the upcoming episodes.

I really like the crime, case-solving parts of the drama. The case and both pov were really interesting, SO as envy ahjumma that is pretty good at combining things is just a lot of fun to see. Male lead is pretty interesting aswell in spite of not seeing too much of him yet.

What, I don't want to say annoys me, it doesn't bother me.....it just feels a little awkward and...ahh....I don't know how to describe it well without sounding harsh, because I wouldn't put it into a negative aspect, it just the whole prosecutor-wife, sister-in-law / mother-in-law doesn't convince me yet. It somehow feels like something unnecessary right now. Maybe that will change over time, especially when we see her husband for the first time, but right know something feels a little off. I don't have the feeling they married because of love, something is weird. I just don't know what I should think about all the people at her home.

But overall I like the first two episodes, it were two easy to watch episodes. I'm staying for now and wait until the next episodes are released, seems like it could be a light and funny drama.

@bebebisous33You sure about the "no romantic at all"-part? somehow it feels like there will be something like that in later stages of the drama.

This one of the things that drive me crazy w/watching kdramas. The wife has to move in w/the inlaw's and the mother in law is a witch. But the dutiful wife takes whatever the inlaw dishes out. She becomes an indentured servant to her husbands family....  It does seem like there isn't any love left  between Soel Ok and her husband. I'm interested to find out why they married too.

I have seen  Rom com dramas where one person is married and it does not really interfere with the love line between the leads such as Fantasy Couple and Birth of a Beauty  for instance. The talk of divorce and the "How could anyone ever fall for her?" Line may or may not be forshadowing  after all.

@dhakra - About Yoo's husband, you can find out the name of the actor from page 1 of this thread. The actor's name is Yoon Hee-Seok and the husband's name is Kim Ho-Cheol. Using a quick search on the internet, the actor is quite good looking; he is 43 so he is of the right age. So Yoo's husband wouldn't look like a loser; so more than likely he would be the type who would fool around. His picture was not included in 12-actor main actors list. In Asianwiki, he was listed as "additional character". I don't think his role is a cameo, but his appearance will be limited as he is not a main character. I feel there is a chance for romance in the present setup as they will be together a lot and the female lead would be in danger at times. For sure, even though the male lead claims he is "married to the nation" when his leader asked him. But Yoo did see tears in his eyes when he was carrying her to save her because of his memory of his first love who was killed. So I do know that the manly detective really misses his old girlfriend and Yoo may eventually enter his brutal life.

As for the mother-in-law, she has been okay so far. I saw the actress in "Heir" and in "Emergency Couple" and I hated her roles. She screamed and screamed and I remember asking myself, "would she ever get a role in which she wouldn't scream?" For now, she hasn't screamed yet and I am okay with her for now.

Yeah, this is really what makes me a little anxious. She takes everything that the in-law throws at her, while denying that her mother-in-law looks down on her.  This whole part reduces the overall good impression that the drama gave me. I curious to see more. So far it I have the feeling that Seol-Ok isn't a woman that loves her husband, I don't know if this is already known, but for me it seems like SO fluttered a little the first time she saw WS.

Ah great. Thanks. Good to have at least a picture of him. I looked it up on asianwiki and he wasn't listed there, now I know that he's there listed as additional character. This is what interests me the most I guess, which kind of character her husband might be. And what his role will be in the drama. It really doesn't seem like a marriage that exists because of love, but since there is pretty much no information about him, all we can do is guess.

The mother-in-law does her part at being the opposite pole of SO, I don't really know what to think about her, so far she's just annoying, not in a particular bad way, she just interferes with everything that causes me fun. :D The sister-in-law is pretty much the same, although I find her character a little stereotypical.

I'll be honest, I totally dismissed this drama after watching just half an hour's worth of its first ep. because I found it boring, also I'm not a fan of Kanghee's acting<_< But then I decided to give it another go as I read some positive reviews.

And while I'm not as invested, the drama is watchable LoL. I'll admit I'm watching it for Lee Wongeun, yea I'm shallow like that:tongue: his chemistry with Kanghee is sweet/cute.This drama reminds me a lot of other sleuth dramas like Columbo, Murder She Wrote, Nancy Drew.

Ugh the lady who plays Seolok's MIL appear to be typecasted. Although it's hard to imagine her playing a different character since she plays it to perfection LoL:lol: Kwon Sangwoo's bickering scenes with Kanghee are hilarious as he just can't stand to be upstaged by an Ahjumma housewife. Ah men~

@evie7 Yea I'm with you on that. But from the few variety shows I've watched, I surmised that South Korea is v.much predominantly a patriarchal society which preaches misogynistic values. They may be pushing for among other things, pop music, fashion forwardness...however, they have v.staunch and almost archaic views on women's roles in society etc. It could just be because they're extremely conservative but it's just jarring in contrast with how advance South Korea is with technology and whatnot.

Which is why it is sooo refreshing to see a sassy, strong character, like that of Ko Soyoung in KBS' Miss Perfect that could be one of the rare occurrences where South Korea is slowly changing their views on women's roles.

As for Seolok's husband, he seems like a non entity LoL. Judging by Kwon Sangwoo's reaction toward her husband, I gather he's not an upstanding person(?) We'll have to wait and see.

@larus Actually the actress who plays Seolok's MIL, has been known for her flashy wardrobe choices! Try watching her in Laurel Tree Tailors - she looks really flamboyant:tongue:

Mystery Queen: Episode 2

by HappilyEverAfter

mysteryqueen02-00493.jpg

The focus shifts gears to Wan-seung today, and we learn about how things led up to his run-in with Seol-ok at the market last episode. For the most part, Wan-seung’s personality is as prickly as his “thug-like” appearance suggested, but we see a few cracks in his shell, and it seems that there’s a lot to his history that’s left to be uncovered.

I don`t have a good impression on the husband and he did not appear yet on screen. :) Maybe we are wrong. Hope he is alright.

But there are specialists who are dressing the actors/ actresses, a stylist who will chose along with the actors the best wardrobe according with the character they play. Maybe her flamboyant look was necessary for the role. I am not saying that I like her  fashion style in this drama but from little that I saw her, she seems to have an interest in what she is wearing more than the heroine. :D

Who knows? They said in the promotional articles that it would be a partnership between them, two people solving crimes with a totally different approached. Maybe they will start to like each other after knowing each other better. Not sure about romance. I think that will be a secondary plot.

Sweet episode today. I like this drama because it's so easy to watch.

I like the transition of WS from doubting her into realizing that everything she said was correct. I like her analyzes aswell.

I think WS was quite impressed by SO's headquarter, I think he realized that she isn't just a bored wife, but instead someone that really cares and puts effort into her passion. She earned his trust for now, curious to see what happens tomorrow. Today felt like a episode that just focussed on them becoming a team.

WS observations that SO don't have any pictures of her husband on her phone really was an interesting info, I really want to know what their marriage is about. If he really pretends to be single, this could be a very interesting thought. Maybe WS & SO really end up together, the last scene was a good start for a potential kiss someday.

WS skills of discovering if something is fishy and people that try to hide something is really impressive.
