The article says the first shooting for ‘Tunnel’ starts Jan 3 but only CJH is going to attend the shooting.  I wonder why.  Well another week from now,  some BTS??

The cable channel OCN weekend drama ‘Tunnel’ (writer Lee Eun Mi / PD Kim Kyung Chul) begins its first shooting.  

According to an official from ‘Tunnel’ “The first shooting for ‘Tunnel’ will begin on Jan 3 2017.”  

An official explained “Only Choi Jin Hyuk will participate in this first shooting.”

‘Tunnel’ is a detective suspense story  in which, while looking for a serial killer of women in 1980s,  the protagonist discovers the link between past and present with the time-slip to 2016 and solves the case.  Choi Jin Hyuk, Lee Yoo Young and Yoon Hyun Min are appearing in the drama.   The drama is getting attention as Choi Jin Hyuk’s return drama  who got an early medical discharge from the Army in 2015.

Choi Jin Hyuk plays the veteran detective Park Kwang Ho of the 10-year homicide squad who jumps with the time-slip to 30 years later while chasing a criminal.  Choi Jin-hyuk is the main lead and appears in both the past and the present, therefore he is going to play a larger portion in the 'Tunnel'.

 'Tunnel' is scheduled to be broadcast in March following 'Voice'.

 I separate very well the actor real life persona from a role but there are people who is affected by it. Many times I heard how a role had influenced the perception of the real actor and I found it really unfair. I use the names of the characters when I comment on a drama thread  or I mention that it is the character. Using the actor`s real name instead of his character can be awekard for me.

 Yeah... usually a sequel is not better than the first show but it still could be good. What I hate the most in kdramaland is when they did not finish the story. In Ten we still don`t know who was the culprit and his motivation. At least with Signal, they will continue the story or get a new story all along. I am fine with that. 

 

I love Yoon Hyum Min`s new haircut. I wonder if Choi Jin Hyuk will have an old-fashioned  haircut as his character is from "another world". But men don`t have many options for a haircut.

I am glad that we have more articles about this drama.

Hello LSA’s fan.  Yes I just checked LSA’s latest IG picture.  You may be right about LSA’s pink &white top dress.   I’m very happy to see you here.  I’m glad to see you are excited about her new drama.   Yes Tunnel has a similar time travel concept as Signal.  The cast’s wardrobes show bright pastel colors.   I hope Tunnel is lighter than Signal which is very heavy and gritty.  I’m a CJH fan and LSA is going to play his wife.   I would like to see a good/sweet chemistry between them.

@larus    Now Tunnel on the Daum site shows the four members of the cast: Choi Jin Hyuk, Lee Yoo Young, Yoon Hyun Min and Lee Shia  A.  It shows only CJH and LYY are the leads so I assume the other two must be the second leads.    Before I thought CJH and LYY might be given some kind of a love line but now LSA is going to play as PKH(CJH)’s wife though at the moment she doesn’t have a name yet (wondering why, perhaps the writer is rewriting the script because the wife character was added at the last minute??    I have a feeling that the writer(and PD) is still working on the script  because there has been no further news about other cast and  not much on the Tunnel Daum site except the four pictures of the cast and a few lines about the drama.)     

So I thought:

1: One news article said ‘CJH would have a greater portion of the screen time because he appears  in both past and present.’ (Though I don’t know its exact meaning but could it be PKH jumps back and forth between past and present which you mentioned about its possibility before? )

2: So now it’s possible there is no love line between Park Kwang Ho(CJH) and Shin Jae Yi( LYY) since PKH has a wife.  Lee Shia A is the second lead so her character may not be killed. Then possible SJY might be PKH’s daughter since the time slip happens while he tries to save his daughter.

 

@hipeachi    Lee Shia A was in Signal as a special appearance so her character didn’t last long but in Tunnel she is a second lead so she might not die.   I saw the pictures of LSA appearing on the red carpet for KBS Acting Awards. I guess she was invited to attend because she was the lead in a KBS TUF daily which had kept #1 rating spot. She looks very pretty with an evening gown though I felt bad that she had to wear such a dress in a cold winter.

 I did not believe that it was a love line in the first place. Usually the thrillers don`t have a love line between the leads if both are working together. I thought we have three major characters and the wife will be a supporting cast but important (she will have screen time).

CJHssi posted a new IG photo.  It looks like he took it in the van. He must be on the way to shooting. One of the reposted IGs indicated the time line was 1/2/2017 10:46AM.  hmm  I thought the first shooting would start 1/3 but who am I to complain about it if it appeared earlier.   It’s in black & white.  He is supposed to be ajeossi/ajeo PKH but I’m glad to see he would be a young ajeossi detective.

@larus  You mentioned about a possible longer hair style from 86.  I see there are bits of longer side hair.  86’s hair style??   ED:  Maybe he hasn’t changed his hair style.

Thank you for pointing it out.  Yeah I remember about Pride & Prejudice which has a love line between OTP  but it  became something like a backdrop against all the other tense conflicts splashed around on the screen.   I can see this trio of Shin Jae Yi(Lee Yoo Young) in the middle and  Park Kwnag Ho(Choi Jin Hyuk) and  Kim Seon Jae (Yoon Hyum Min) on opposite sides.   I’m curious what kind of role  PKH’s wife will  be,  whether good or bad or tragic..

The audience can root for the hero to save his daughter and have a happy family once again. But it is too early to tell how the story will go.

 I think you are right. I think they had the first shooting  in the tunnel  as CHJ had two tags - # tunnel & drama tunnel.  At first I just translated them without thinking  much and then later I suddenly remembered what you said about the first shooting.     So it looks like they shot the time jump scene first.  Maybe for the teaser??

I read an article saying Yoon Hyun Min is going to appear in ‘I Live Alone’.  Since I didn’t know about the show,  I thought something happened and YHM cancelled  Tunnel  but he hasn't.   I checked about the show(MBC reality show about single entertainers).   So it seems YHM is going to appear in this show and the drama??   His agency said, ‘he will appear in ‘I Live Alone’. Now they have been discussing the shooting schedule for the show.’    But I’m wondering whether he could really do both at the same time.   I thought taking on a drama is a big commitment by itself...

 (I haven’t seen this kind of fog until now … stopped the driving and got out of the car but still felt an urge to run away (because of fear))  after waiting since early morning, the first shooting finally started in the afternoon.

I found another IG photo. She said ‘The first shooting’s from the province.’ She seems to be from the same beauty salon(에이바이봄)   The place (충주) she tagged is away from Seoul(서울) as the map shows.  There isn’t any film crew showing in the IG, just scenery (or something there??)

@larus   Actually I was so ready to see a tunnel.  don’t know why hummm  So it was a bit disappointing  to see CJH standing alone in this open field.   Well it seems my handsome detective PKH has a rather ordinary looking hair style.  hhaha 

Still I’m happy and relieved to see CJH’s manager has been openly active for CJHssi.   I hope we would  see some  BTS from other cast members soon  and hear more casting news for other parts.     I wonder if the production team  hasn’t finished getting all the cast.  I saw a recruiting company was advertising on its IG for Tunnel casting.  I wonder whether they are doing it for minor parts?  

 

*** I learned that the first shooting for Tunnel was taken on the island (비내섬) in  Chungju  (충주). CJH’s manager showed the name of the place on his IG photo which he took of himself and some other managers(?). Previously a staff member posted the same place but she only showed the scenery so I wasn’t sure whether it was the real shooting location. Afterward I checked about the place. The place has a unique look as it sits on the southern Han River and it has been attractive as a filming location for dramas.

** Hopefully we will learn later why the production team chose this place, ? just for scenic or convenience or the detective PKH is from Chungju  (충주) or a crime scene or where his daughter is missing.  CJH on the IG photo  carried  the expression of something troubling in his intense gaze.
