- She was very motivated to kiss Nok Soo's butt and get ahead. She really wanted to be promoted to Heung Chung, too. Why? Was it part of her mission as a geo-in?

- She was pissed when Ga Ryung got to go into the king's bedroom, when she's been working for years to get there. Why? Also part of her mission?

As many have long suspected, Eorinie was drugged and brainwashed. I guess I'm excited about her because she makes a perfect double agent. She can go to Teacher Song and give him misinformation that will bring him down.

For the first one - the geo in's have two roles (1) to serve Sugwidan in all their being which includes dying for their country & them through spying (2) they are tools not persons.  Sang Hwa/Eorini's mission was to rise up in the power for Sugwidan along the way provide all information and act in accordance to the instructions given by them.  Nok So is in a position of power so its not surprising that the instruction given was to get close to her and the king and inform them as to what is happening as well as deduce what it means

It is part of her mission and in a way its personal because its like her efforts are being ignored and Ga Ryung as a newcomer has taken over very easily

Yes Eorini could make a perfect double agent but there are 3 problems- Eorini's handler may remember her real identity and can subdue/possibly control her; just like the brothers recognize Eorini easily so can Mori if he sees her & who could use her to get to them; after all that she has been through there is no way that the Hongs will allow her to return to Scholar Song plus Song now knowing Gil Hyun's identity will become more suspicious as to why Eorini was selected to work for him in the first place.   Eorini knows how to spy but not how to fight per se, she has helped them in telling them what it entails to be a geo in etc, so that information could be used to fight Song/Sugwidan along with Gil Hyun's knowledge.

You also have the fact that Gil Hyun after hearing about Eorini's case as well as what he knows about Song etc and the king he finds the whole thing suspicious especially when you have the missing people connection.  There has to be a link and it has not yet been determined.

Pre-emptions in store for Chicago Typewriter, Rebel, Tunnel, Whisper

by girlfriday

ChicagoRebel1.jpg

The South Korean presidential election is coming up in under two weeks, which means that this is probably just the first wave of drama pre-emptions in store for us. With debates and other election-related news specials popping up in the days leading up to the election, we have quite a few dramas already announcing programming changes. I know, it’s never good news for a drama addict! But on the upside, we’ll probably get a bunch of hilarious memes out of it.

MBC’s Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People will be pre-empted twice over the next two weeks: There will be no episodes aired on Tuesday, May 2 for presidential debates, and then again on Tuesday, May 9 for Election Day. That means the show will conclude a week later than expected, on May 16. This one is a little more disappointing, given that I’m already feeling some strain in the pace of the last few episodes. I know, I know—a peasant rebellion doesn’t happen overnight! But some of us have been waiting for 26 episodes and could use a pick-me-up like a husband-wife reunion, is all I’m sayin’.

At first I  thought Eorini, may have lost her memory because of lost oxygen to her brain when she fell in the water, but now it seems clear she was brutally and systematically brainwashed, even hypnotized and made more suggestible and confused with the use of some form of drug, and then of course, there were those who died fighting off the mind control ( pretty terrifying for a little girl), so I think she sought the safety of submitting to the mind control.  Yes, a survival move, but I am not angry at her, she was a little girl. She forced herself to forget to survive.

I am wondering if ultimately she may go back to her teacher to mislead the bad guys.  I am not sure they know she is the sister.

I find the coincidence of sister, mistress and wife all in the harem of the King, sort of a stretch.  Although I am charmed by Ga- Reong - not sure I buy her either the reasoning or her ability to really edge within striking distance of the king, but of course she does.  Just for me, this is weak point in the story.

Next question:  Didn't Nok So have a daughter?  Could the daughter be Ok Ran?

Absolutely can't blame Eorinie for finding a way to survive. Obviously her bros would not let her be in danger, but she's shown herself to be a strong and intrepid character for a reason. She'll probably act on her own.

My vague memory of Nok Soo's child was that he was a boy, but I'm not going to go back to check. It is nice to try and involve Ok Ran in some significant way beyond as a foil for the Eorinie-game, but it would also be too makjang to have them *all* end up in the palace.

WTF is the King Inhaling or smoking I just want to see that mother and son dead and I;ll be happy with any outcome

I don't think they will die. Gil Hyun wished her a long life so she can see her value system come crashing down. I wish for all 4 of those clowns: Teacher Song, Choong Won, Lady Jo and her toad son to be locked in a cell together, so they can nag and bicker themselves to death.

Wishful thinking, of course. Because we know what Mori does to people who treat him like crap.

They're so terrible, but they're so whiny and petty, that it's funny.

@chickfactor  You have a good memory In episode 7 her little boy shows up (he is pretty as a girl though) so he won't end up with her in the harem, doubt we will see him again, but would like to find out what happened to him.

Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People: Episode 26

hgd26-00147.jpg

Gil-dong and his family are all together in the safety of the cave stronghold, but it’s like the calm before the storm, and I have a feeling all hell will break loose soon. We’re one step closer to bringing down ultimate karmic justice on Yeonsangun, and the people around Gil-dong are beginning to show their strength. The scene-stealer was definitely little Eorini, about whom we finally get some answers…

EPISODE 26 RECAP

Scholar Song and Yeonsangun are shocked when they learn that Park Ha-sung is Gil-hyun. Expressing their rage at the betrayal, both throw impotent tantrums, Scholar Song at his spy, and Yeonsangun at Jeong-hak, the people who respectively inform them of Park Ha-sung’s real identity. At the cave, Gil-hyun is finally reunited with Eorini/Sang-hwa, but she doesn’t believe that these strange men are her family. Sang-hwa pushes Gil-hyun away as he approaches her with tears in his eyes, firmly denying that she’s his sister.

Choongwongoon and Mistress Jo discuss the revelation about Park Ha-sung, and she gnashes her teeth, upset that she didn’t recognize Park Ha-sung as Gil-hyun, but Choongwongoon presents a different opinion. He sees it as an opportunity to take down Scholar Song, and to help elevate Jeong-hak in the king’s eyes. In front of the king, Choongwongoon declares that Scholar Song is the one who betrayed the king by putting a traitor like Park Ha-sung in his midst. Yeonsangun’s eyes turn to Scholar Song, who reels at the unexpected backstabbing from Choongwongoon. The scholar tries to reassure the king that he only had his best interests in mind, and that he is not on the same side as Gil-hyun.

At the cave hideout, the original Amogae Avengers attempt to jog Sang-hwa’s memories by talking about their individual relationships during childhood. Eop-san can’t believe she doesn’t remember him as her handsome neighbor oppa. Ilchung even lets her touch his head because she used to like the scratchy, bristly feeling of his short hair. But Sang-hwa just looks at them all, confused.

hgd26-00005.jpg

While Sang-hwa is sleeping, Gil-dong comes to look in on her, and she wakes as soon as he touches her hand. Affronted, she demands that he not touch her, and he explains to her that they all missed her so much and that he’s been looking for her for a long time. He shows her the other half of the purple ribbon that she always carries. Just seeing the two pieces together seems to give her some flashbacks of their separation, but the sudden onslaught of the emotions and memories are too much for her. So she yells loudly, denying her memories and any connections with Gil-dong, who looks stricken to hear her say that.

Gil-hyun leads Gil-dong out, and tells him that now they have found her, they have all the time in the world. He tells his younger brother that they should give her time to process and go a little slowly, and not rush her to remember them. Sang-hwa overhears their conversation, and is discomforted by the thought that she could be stuck with them for any longer. During lunch time, everyone sits in bustling groups, reunited and happy with their families. But Gil-dong sits to the side all alone with a pensive face, and suddenly a mirage of his wife Ga-ryung appears and she begins ladling him porridge soup.

hgd26-00008.jpg hgd26-00009.jpg

He confides in her his worry about potentially making tears fall from these people’s eyes by not succeeding in his rebellion. But she tells him not to worry about things that haven’t happened yet. Her mirage disappears and he’s alone again, and he talks to the empty space where he imagined her to be sitting, wondering where she is. At the palace, Jeong-hak tells the king that they’re doing all they can go catch the Hong bandit, when Choongwongoon enters with Mori. In order to capture the Hong bandit more effectively, Yeonsangun gives Jeong-hak a promotion to Chief of Police, but also gives Mori the position as Jeong-hak’s right-hand man.

However, Jeong-hak protests, saying that it’s against the social order for a commoner to become an officer. But Yeonsangun tells him that Mori is his best chance at defeating Gil-dong because of his Mighty Child strength, and Jeong-hak has no choice but to acquiesce.

Team Dramabeans: What we’re watching

by DB Staff

girlfriday :  Yay for some forward movement. I have to admit—they totally got me when the people came to Gil-dong’s rescue and were so proud to stand up and fight by his side, even in the face of death. He inspires that in people, which is really the big development we’ve been working for. It was also a huge relief when the show stopped being trolly about Eorini and fleshed out her story. Nothing made me happier than when she called Gil-dong and Gil-hyun “oraboni” again.

Episode 27 was another powerful one.  It looks like they reshot the scene from episode 1.  Mori had facial hair and the battle took place in the field.  Sad to say but I don't think Ga Ryung will live.  During Gil dong's dream, it was like she was saying goodbye.  I honestly think most of the rebels won't make it.  I think the ending will be bittersweet that Gil dong and his brothers will all die but the people will learn to fight and carry on for him.  Mori is weak for Ga Ryung so I think whatever happens to GR will ultimately finally make him go to the good side.  Maybe he'll be the new leader?

- Daaaamn Ga-Ryung. Going all Mike Tyson. Whoa.

- You have to always expect some violence watching a sageuk, and we know that Yeonsangun was one of the bloodiest tyrants, but yikes. I'm almost becoming numb to the senseless slaughter.

- Nok Soo! Girl, you went from COMPLICIT to straight-up EVIL. Hell hath no fury, indeed.

- I really need Teacher Song and Prince Choong-Won to slap-fight each other to death.

- The music is SO amazing on this show. By the way, they briefly showed Ahn Ye-Eun in a cameo in that scene where they're all singing before the battle. She wrote many of the awesome songs. (Very "do you hear the people sing?" vibe.)

--

Y'all, if anyone needs palate cleansers:

- In "Six Flying Dragons" (which is great) the actress who plays Nasty Lady Jo is a nice and loving grandmother to Moo-Hyool, who is played by the actor who plays Gil-Dong.

- In "I Love Romance 2," the actor who plays Evil Sadist King plays the Nicest Boyfriend Ever.

I'm going to need to rewatch these at some point, just to soothe my traumatized psyche. OMG.

No new episode tomorrow. :bawling:

I also noticed Eunuch Ma from Love in the Moonlight made an appearance as one of the king's advisors.  Not sure if it's permanent or just a cameo.

i agree about Six Flying dragons.  Such an amazing drama.

@chickfactor thanks for the palate cleansers.

We knew it was coming, how could we not, since we see it in the first episode, but still..........:bawling:

Hong Gil Dong after he is torn apart and is lame, we saw him bloodied and in the hard labor camp being beaten down again and again and enraged and impotent while watching his friends being beaten..  Then without showing us how it happened or how he healed and then rose up and broke free,  he suddenly appears before the King  with his band of merry men ready to fight anew.   I have been thinking about it.  HGD is a legend, the myth, the dream that lives in the hearts of the people. Nothing can kill him, and the people will always rise up again and again.

Rebel: Thief Who Stole the People: Episode 27

by tineybeanie

hgd27-00854.jpg

Now that there’s only one more family member to rescue from behind enemy lines, we know that the impending reunion between our married couple will be heartbreaking (if the first episode was any indication), so it’s time to start bracing ourselves. Unfortunately for our hero, despite the people rallying to his side, they’re still the underdogs in the fight against Yeonsangun’s violence-driven control of the nation.

EPISODE 27 RECAP

The people shout as they come to save Gil-dong and the rest of his men from the royal forces, “We’ll come to your rescue this time, General.” With an expression mixed with gratefulness and awe at the miraculous salvation, they begin fighting again with a reinvigorated fervor, and soon the royal army turns back to retreat with their tails tucked between their legs. When the general comes to report his crushing defeat against the rebel army, Yeonsangun sits in his throne room clearly upset at this new development. His courtiers cower while his general delivers the disappointing news, and when the king hears that it’s Gil-dong leading the rebel army, he becomes infuriated. After the end of the battle, despite their victory, many have been injured and some have even lost their lives, including the man that Gil-dong once personally encouraged (who later led the rescue efforts that saved the rebel army). Gil-dong and the Hong band stand in front of the graves of the fallen, and he resolves: “I will never forget you.”

Back at the cave, people are being treated for their injuries, including some of the more experienced members of the Hong brotherhood. Eorini sees Yonggae being bandaged up, and tears come to her eyes as she first witnesses the tolls of battle on the closest thing to an uncle-like figure in her life. She reaches out to hold his hand, and despite the pain, he grits his teeth, smiles, and welcomes her back. Alone, Gil-dong ponders words that Yeonsangun said to him in prison regarding violence and how to control the citizenry. While he’s lost in deep thought, Gil-hyun comes up to him, and when he sees his brother, Gil-dong playfully says that he’s fallen a long way from being a close advisor to the king to the nation’s most wanted traitor.

Gil-hyun replies that it’s just his luck for having such a rascal for a little brother, and then Eorini joins them. She covers Gil-dong’s eyes with her hands, and it’s an instant deja vu moment back to the days when life was simpler at Ikhwari, under Amogae’s protective presence. It’s been such a long time since this familiar action, and it makes Gil-dong emotional, but he replies as he always does and asks if it’s Ugly Girl (Motnani is an affectionate term that connotes ugliness) who’s covering his eyes. Soon, the rest of the original Amogae Avengers show up, and together they all call up to Amogae to thank him for reuniting their family.

I finally saw episode 27. And I have to say the last few minutes had me in tears. GD and GR are so close yet so far from each other.
Someone mentioned before that the dream GD had of GR was a goodbye, and I have to say it does seem like a goodbye. Although I am still hoping for a happy ending. GR says to GD to do what she asks of him because he does not like to see her cry.
My imagination runs wild and I have this feeling that Mori might die while rescuing GR. I mean it will be sad that after turning to the good side he will die, but it is possible.
NS is one evil woman, the reason for her actions seems weak from the writers part, in my opinion. Only a couple episodes back she was putting her life at risk for GD to live and now she wants him dead?
I applaud Chae Soobin acting she really came through in this episode. I can't wait for her new drama. Can the leading man be the actor playing Mori?

But first I have to see GR and GDs happy ending. And it is killing me that we only get one episode next week.

Is it just me who's waiting for episode 28 preview or has anyone seen it or has any news about it.

I don't know about y'all but it'll be sad to see GR die most especially at the hands of gil dong. I mean he shot the arrow so why should she die, this kinda reminds me of the general and I *spoiler alert* where the general struck bai ping ting (his wife) with a sword and she didn't die there or because of it.

I haven't watched the last seven episode, I am super tempted to watch it but I'll hold it off cuz for me I want to dive in prepared and I'd rather have a spoiler of how things end.
