( very much so in the eyes of Koreans) By the way, this was one thing about which I didn't agree with the subbers of this drama, somewhat. The phrase used in Korean was never "love child" but they kept using that phrase all the way through. What was said in Korean was simply "kid brought from outside" in that many words. In English, it perhaps does not have the somewhat worse connotation that the word "love child" has. But the subbers were right too, in that Mother Geum and the 2 other daughters always thought that SH was Papa Geum's daughter, so "love child" was technically correct to capture their acceptance of SH. I would have expected it to be easier for a woman to accept a child who is not her husband's daughter and love her more than her own daughter like Mother Geum did (many parents of adopted children do that), than to love a "love-child" of one's husband. But the Korean society would perhaps respect a love-child more than an adopted child, like you say.
shebagirl
@jayakris As I see it, a 'love child' has a known parent, which implies that the child belongs to the registry of the family. The out of wedlock concept is not frowned upon as much as a child of unknown parentage. In the case of DrHan, due to his memory loss, he was labelled an orphan, of an unknown parentage. His desire to locate his family is of paramount importance to him when he came back to work in Korea. He thought his mother abandoned him, but that notion still did not deter him because deep down he felt he still has a family somewhere. This family registry is very important in the Korean psychic, a feeling of belonging ... a branch of a tree that has its roots, however humble it can be. They can even snatch their offspring from the mother, especially if the child is a son, and bring into their household to be brought up... illegitimate or otherwise the child is welcomed. The lady of the house is obliged to take care of the child as her own.... no discussion needed. Strange bedfellows for Korean ladies really .... even in this 21 century. evie7
Oh my gawd chingus it is heating up now. I didn't expect all of this to happen today but w/8 (?) episodes left these birth secrets, baby switches should be coming out in the open. @angelwingssf I've been refreshing today's episode for about an hour now and still no subs @cheekychipmunk_stv @Ldy Gmerm@jayakris Thanks for the recaps 10 hours ago, Ldy Gmerm said: NS thought she got away with destroying that report. But the Assistant told JR what was in it and he gave him information about JS and KPD in that report it seems as well that seemed to give JR pause. Its going to come out. JR may have that information himself and realize the truth. I would like it to be so but I just do not know how the truth will come out. I hope he starts to get a clue by reading it. I'm sure the truth will be a shock to him and he may not be willing to see it at first but this man is supposed to be the Ceo of a big conglomerate, that owns tv stations, major restaurant chain, etc... I can't believe he won't be able to figure this out on his own. I would love for him to seek out SH, for him to be the one who realizes that SH is his son. That would just make such a wonderful scene.
lclarakl
After watching wth subs, I'm expecting the father or grandmother to figure out that Dr Han just may be real JS...............IF they were Madam Sa or MH, the only people who seem to have the ability to see that there are no such things as coincidences and able to put 2 and 2 together; heck the can put 1 and 5 together. Father knows that Dr Han was in the same city and fire as JS. He knows that JS lived next door to fake Dr Han father (heck even Choi can take a small piece of evidence and find it odd). He knows that Dr. Han knows his family that he met a while ago. He knows that Dr Han's mother died. He knows that he was visiting his mother at the same temple where JJ is located. They know that they have never done any DNA test to prove that JS is their son. More than that, they feel a connection to Dr. Han. ......I'm just saying. I'm sorry, but Dr. Han is really getting on my nerves with this cat and mouse with his real family. Too much consideration for SW/JS. I have to wonder, exactly what does his family mean to him. I don't think I could let people I care about continue to be defrauded by selfish MH and the lies of SW/JS. Also, I'm a little confused. For NS to have treated SW/JS so shabby in the first 70 episodes and at times seemed like she wanted to out him as faker, in this episode she's acting all helpless. Another thing, very uncharacteristic for MH to be talking out in the open, loudly about SH being NS daughter.....I guess the writer in just throwing out reveal information. SH is not beating around the bush. She's confronting people--her "father" and soon her "mother"....hint, hint Dr Han.

shebagirl
10 hours ago, jayakris said: The scenario in this drama is about the most complicated that I have seen in any Kdrama. Too difficult to figure out who knows what, and to what extent. For instance, today, I was somewhat surprised that NS still had a lifeline left, with Dr. Han still not knowing that she was the woman who took him out of the burning house. I thought he knew that. That somewhat explains why he is taking his time before confronting NS and "giving it to her" like many here had thought he might soon do. Dr. Han still doesn't know that it was NS who was behind the boy switcheroo! If DrHan had only shared with Papa Geum that his mother died in the fire and mentioned his mother's name, then he would be shown the pic of the three of them in the orphanage. His reluctance to open up to someone about his findings is very annoying, and Papa Geum would be a better person to divulge some secrets. Her name would certainly prompt father Geum to bring out the pic,and there he would recognise his mother chinggu, then only it will dawn on him that NS was the lady behind the switch. Till then, to him NS is Seolhwa 's mother. Faker and MH are real stumbling blocks. Hope JR confront Shin Woo regarding being a neighbour to the Kang. Then that should shake that as%##le in his pants. He is still hiding behind the notion that NS brought him to the Yoon and created the mess. Well, nutty guy, now that the real son is back just have the guts and the decency to give him back his family ....!!! Am simply disgusted with this sickening character. Shin Woo, you have got your father, still alive.... go and spend his remaining days with him, and then repent... be a monk after that ....!!! Am fuming ..... angelwingssf
After watching today's episode with subs, I was floored to the enormity of deceit perpetuated by NS and who still wants to continue with this deceit. She wants to look good to her son who will be affected severely knowing how his mother destroyed Dr. Han 's life and how the Faker still continues and steals from his father. He will hate the two people he loved the most in his life. The truth that came out of Dr. Han had both the Faker and NS shaking in their boots looking at each other as if the earth would open up and devour them. Both Grandma and JR were very excited to hear Dr. Han had gotten his memories and that he found his family. The seed of doubt planted by the secretary made JR think. I hope he figures out that Dr. Han is his real son soon. I want to see the reunion of father and son and how they bring down the baddies. I wish Dr. Han should have confided in Papa Geum as to why he had to break up with SH. The writer missed an opportunity to unravel the yarn from the other end. This is the way Dr. Han can figure out that NS is the mom friend who visited them and they grew up in the orphanage and was there on the day of the fire. Did Dr. Han say that the friend helped him go to the river. When he really finds out what she did and how she destroyed his life for the last 30 years by concocting lies for her advantage, I am dreading to see the pain on Dr. Han's face. Realizations , and figuring out who the culprit was behind it and dealing with it would be filled with angst. SH knowing about her parents was a double whammy for her, but it had to be done. I hope Dr. Han will help her and stay by her side to deal with this now. Would CJ knowing that she is not Papa Geum's daughter, throw her out into the street since she is not biologically related to them. I hope not. I am sure CJ is very angry with Papa Geum and MK finds out that his family has known about it before them and wonders how. It is a messy ball that needs unravelling from 8 different directions. What a mess !! What a mess!!

I haven't had a chance to watch w/subs and it's getting late in my part of the world but I don't think CJ will throw SH out anytime soon. I'm thinking Papa Geum is going to be the one who will be out in the street. @lclarakl It's hard for me to be too upset w/SHm (tbh I'm such a delulu fangirl of the actor that he's just so handsome and manly that I let things slide. Good thing he's not playing a villain ) But your right he needs to say something because his family is being compromised. If it was me I would probably leave scorched earth behind me getting my family away from the faker and NS's lies. The Yoon's have a lot of sorrow coming their way when the truth comes out. NS has to go, what she has done is unforgivable. Faker too, I wish he had told the truth before now, because the only reason he will tell the truth (if he even bothers too) is because he's being forced too. nrlfan4ever
We really have to blame the writer/s for all the mess! We're nearing the end and they still want to add more tangles into the tightly-wound web of lies. They should start with the revelations now. The brave face that Shin Woo continues to show is just a facade. He admitted that they (NS,MH and he) are feeling scared every time Dr. Han shows his face at the Yoon household. He still claims that to be his own house/family. He still wants to blame everything to NS. My goodness, he's such a wimp. He cannot even own up to his part in their life of deceit. MH's blatant temerity and rudeness is really legendary. Imagine accosting your mother-in-law like that. We've always posit that someone will eventually hear what needs to be heard along those halls and rooms where voices are amplified. It is not only MH who has bionic ears. And since she is not doing her real job, she's busily roaming the corridors of the building hoping to hear something juicy that can be useful to her someday. She does not listen to her mom. She wants to get her claws on the PJ group, telling her jelly-spined husband she'll help him get more shares than JR. The adults' choices before are showing their repercussions on the next generation, which will also bite them in the end. Grandma Eun for looking down at JJ and JR for not having the guts to fight for JJ and their love for each other. Grandma Eun and JR's blind acceptance of the child that was presented to them, based on an incense pouch. Mo Nan Seol for her greed, envy and desire for a good life. Her abandonment of her child; for her envy of what JJ will soon have - the very things that she wanted for herself - JJ to finally live with chaebol-heir JR, their son and Grandma Eun's acceptance (despite her lowly background); for intentionally making the switch and carrying on the lie, making Shin Woo submit to her dictates; her inability to let go of her greed for social status and money, even if it means continuing to deny that her daughter is alive and well and suffering because of her. Mo Nan Seol for brow-beating Shin Woo, who grew up without balls, and only obeys persons like Nan Seol, which is the reason why he blindly obey his wife's commands. Geum Jung Do for not telling the truth behind Seol Hwa's birthright. I think it's not to protect the baby but his orphanage dongsaeng. What is wrong with telling Choo Ja that he found the baby in the snow; that the baby needs surgery; that he just cannot bear the thought of a little one being left alone, knowing his own story; that the baby is helpless; that he wants to help and care for her (in lieu of Han Dol) and raise her as their own? Sa Gwi Jung for raising a daughter in her own mold, who grew up to be a scarier version of her. Mrs. Sa loves and idolizes money and yearns for better social standing. However, her crassness, her putting of money above all else and her motor mouth truly paints a picture of what a low-life she is. Bae Min Hee is the same, but her desire for money is beyond that of her mother's. She wants everything and her PRIDE won't allow her to just grab loose change. She wants to get her hands on bigger things and she'll do anything (mostly underhand) to get what she wants and shamelessly use people to achieve her goals. She even broadcasts her misdeeds to people she wants to beat, crush or step on. Kang Shin Woo for being an ungrateful jerk, for not giving thanks to the people who raised him with love and affection and gave him a very cushy life; for forgetting the person who saved him when he was an abused child who almost perished in the fire and who selflessly gave her life for him. For his part in perpetrating the deceit until now and desperately clinging to the persona and good life he has and all the worse things that he did, aided and unaided by Mo Nan Seol and Bae Min Hee. Like many of you, Seok Hoon's reticence in revealing the truth is getting irritating. I understand that he wants to protect Seol Hwa, the Geums and the elder Yoons, but there's not many episodes left. Maybe it's because there's still some parts in his childhood memories that he needs to confirm. What he remembers, according to what he told Nan Seol in his office, is that his mom's friend saved him and his mom. That is why NS felt relieved because at the moment he does not recognize her. I agree with other posters here that he should discuss things with Papa Geum. He still calls him abeoji and they still share a bond that's difficult to break. Likewise, he can discuss things with JR because the guy is really open about his willingness to help find his family. He could approach JR and talk in the customer-less coffee shop or elsewhere without the knowledge of anyone and out of earshot of the bionic-eared and omnipresent viper and tell him everything he knows and together they can plan on how to resolve the issues, if they want to do it without too many collateral damage. JR should wisen up a bit more. He now knows that Dr. Han is not Kang Pil Doo's biological son. He knows that Kang Pil Doo used to be Jin Joo's neighbor in Namwon and that his kid, Shin Woo is missing (who's become fake Joon Sang). He knows that Dr. Han went to the temple to visit his mother. He has an unexplained closeness to Seok Hoon and can discuss things with him, personal and business, which he cannot and has never done with faker. Please sir, put two and two together, okay? He can be the one to invite Seok Hoon for a tete-a-tete. Edit: Even if Seok Hoon wants to protect Seol Hwa and his real family, they will not escape getting hurt once everything is revealed, and this will happen. I think that thought escaped him. Sharing the secrets with other people he trusts, such as Papa Geum and his true dad, Yoon Jae Rim, will ease his burden and make his understand a few things as well because these two men know some truths. He needs to be bolder in his approach and not wait for faker to tell the Yoons because unless something momentous happens, he's not willing to do that because (1) of his greed and (2) his fear of an unknown world after having everything at his fingertips. He had forgotten that he is a qualified cook and can earn a decent living in a place where nobody knows him. He is incapable of thinking beyond today. Could Madame Eun be the first to realize the relationship? Willl Jin Joo visit her in her dreams again and show her the way? The writers are really s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g the story to keep everybody in suspense and frustrating international viewers, especially those unfamiliar with Korean daily drama culture. cheekychipmunk_stv
I was so totally disgusted when JS begged SH not to reveal himself and take away his family that he build so hard for 30 years. WTF! How can he even say that out of his mouth knowing what SH went through during the last 30 years because his identity was stolen by JS. SH said it right. Yoon family is not JS family. JS spent 30 years building family with lies and deceit. JS should now set everything in order and live his own life and return SH his family. JS had a coushy life for 30 years and the love of grandma Eun, he should now let go and return to his original place. It not like he can't find a job with a good salary. SW is the saddest character in this drama. At least SH found his loving family who is more than happy to welcome him and live him dearly. SH spend her whole life not feeling she belongs, marked with stigma. Now she learns that she is not even child of Papa Geum whom she loves so much. And that she was born out of wedlock & abandoned child of NS and NS rejected her again later. She is totally lost ... feeling like what's wrong with her, why everyone throw her away. And if she learns what her birth mom did to SH, SW wouldn't know how to face him now that she knows her mom has inflcited 30 years of pain onto SH.Even if SH wants her, she would be too ashamed to be with him. Very true. I get this feeling that it would take a few years for Seolhwa to want to be with DrHan again. The revelations are to her disadvantage, no doubt she didn't grow up with NS, but NS evil doings will still rub on her. So she is paying the price of the 'sins of the parents' as the saying goes. Pitiful really. Whatever, DrHan will not desert her but Seolhwa will be reluctant to continue any relationship with him ... ashamed and devastated. There will be a time jump, and time is a great healer. Mama Geum would be her strength and she will not forsake Seolhwa, am pretty sure. She has a heart of gold really, and DrHan will not hesitate to consider them as family too, even the spiteful SeNa. This week will be the ' know all', a few households will go through some upheaval. In what manner will doom strike NS, MH and Shin Woo....? Judging by typical kdrama ending, some tears shed but in general, just like a slap on the wrist...!!! Maybe Mdm Sa's motor mouth will land her in jail for the hit and run, otherwise others will just be reprimanded, and move away unscathed. So don't wait for justice to be meted out to these scoundrels ..... just be contented that DrHan gets his family and his real name again.... on the family registry of the Yoon as Han maybe. It will need many official changes if he reverts back to be a Yoon. Basically, the message is one can do horrid things to others ... and get away with a mere mention and slap by elders, this is to safeguard the family's name and honour. I certainly hope that my prediction is wrong .... I want an eye for an eye ...! Wishful .....

Papa Geum was thrown out of the house the last time he sold his dumpling store without consulting CJ or the family in order to compensate Three Eyes. He had also hoped that by paying them, SH would be allowed to keep her job there. With SH's triple whammy (breakup, found out NS is her mom and papa Geum isn't her dad) and her aggravating heart issues/condition, I think CJ would not abandon her and leave her to fend for herself. The faker needs to come clean and stop listening to NS and MH!! After his talks with Dr. Han, he is wavering and is beginning to have doubts about what he had started and done in compliance with MH's orders and plans are right. You can see he is looking at MH with disgust again whenever she suggests he should gain more shares in PJ Group. The faker looked away when Dr. Han asked him about JJ. If the faker has a sense of guilt and some decency, he needs to confess his part in this identity crime and put NS in her place. MH is greedy and will not stop stealing from her in-laws. The faker needs to stop helping her. I feel like going up to the annoying MH and choke her each time her face appears on the screen. When the faker finds out SH had found out about her biological mom because of MH's conversation with NS, he might (start growing a pair) become bolder, change his mind and want to come clean. I think Dr. Han and SH could be reunited after tonight's episode. Dr. Han will not be able to turn away a desperate, lost, sick and emotionally hurt SH who is turning to him for help and support. I foresee Dr. Han returning the lucky owl necklace before SH is wheeled into the OR. I have to agree with posters here and wonder when will JR put two to two together. Madam Eun also saw Mr. Choi hand over the documents to NS and how many portraits of a woman were displayed in the temple behind the Yoon's? Why can't Madam Eun make a connection with her maternal instinct and start seeing the real grandson in Dr. Han? Dr. Han is stating the obvious and the 'righteous' and 'blinded' fail to see and make a connection unlike the villains in this drama...sigh. Even I am starting to feel frustrated and impatient too. Time to spit it out already!! Dr. Han! @nrlfan4ever Excellent analysis and my sentiments exactly!

shebagirl
Why is DrHan so mean towards Seolhwa ..? Just give her a shoulder to cry on .. Is that so difficult ..? Why the sudden frozen treatment towards her ..? Even NS didn't want to acknowledge her as her daughter ..? She seemed to get rejections from those who matters most to her ..! Any other person would just become suicidal from the shocks and the rejections. Am very disappointed with DrHan .... where is the compassion in him ... so so heartless ...!! I suppose only after Seolhwa is on the hospital bed fighting for her life, will DrHan and NS come to realise their mistakes ...? That mean streak shown by DrHan is really uncouth and unbecoming, certainly I have a change of heart now about him. cheekychipmunk_stv
It broke my heart when SW was pouring her heart to SH and seeking warmth and comfort from him, he rejected her and told her to go away. He was her last refuge and haven. To her, it seems everyone she loves betrayed her. To find out she has no blood ties at all with Geum family was a big blow to her. Then to get rejected outright by her bio mom of her existence - another big blow. She wants to go home but no home now as she wasn't sure how Mama Geum and SN will receive her now.How she kept knocking at SH door begging him to open but he refused. Totally broke my heart. She was always there for him no matter what. Now she is in need of some comfort, none gave her. NS was extremely cruel to SW. She claims to love SW but at the end of the day, JiSang still matters most to her.

This is the flaw I'm finding with this drama it's the writer focusing on the wrong things in an unrealistic fashion. Dr Han is too perfect when it comes to tradition and caring what people think. - He's willing to throw love away for a family he has made no real move to claim. - He's showing more consideration to SW than to SH. - For a doctor who knows SH has a heart condition, and sees that her health is failing and she's losing weight, he does not seem to care; however he's worried about grandmother not being able to deal with the shock of him telling her his real identity? - Why does everyone feel they need to protect SH from knowing about her real mother? I feel bad for mother Geum....this woman's feelings is not considered by any of them, especially Papa Geum and even SH at the moment.
