The Clock Counts Down in New Teaser for Voice

a2

We finally have a teaser with our two leads present and it is just as good as the previous serial killer car teasers (at least in my opinion).  I know it is early, but at least teaserwise, Voice is angling to be my next “must watch” drama.

Heightened sounds help catch crime in gripping teasers for OCN’s Voice

Three teasers have been released for OCN’s upcoming crime drama Voice, two of which focus on our leads whose lives were both devastated by the same serial killer still on the loose: an intelligent voice profiler with an unusually sharp sense of hearing named Kang Kwon-joo, played by Lee Hana (Unkind Woman), and a former violent crimes detective named Moo Jin-hyuk, played by Jang Hyuk (Beautiful Mind).

Lee Hana’s teaser shows her waiting at a crosswalk while Jang Hyuk waits across the street; both are fitted with earpieces. As pedestrians make their way across, all the noises of the environment become heightened, and Lee Hana is able to distinguish the source of each one: a vibrating phone, a car engine running, snippets of conversations. “Even just hearing it, I can see it. That sound… I must find it,” she thinks to herself.

When a man handles his lighter, Lee matches it to the clinking heard in the background of a frantic emergency call, and she sees the culprit walking away. “I found him,” she says. The copy at the end reads, “The voice profiler who can see sounds, Kang Kwon-joo.”

Jang Hyuk’s teaser shows his side of the same encounter. He hears Lee Hana’s voice through his earpiece: “Detective, the culprit is nearby. He’s definitely holding a lighter.” Jang Hyuk copies that and springs into action, jumping on top of a car and lunging at the culprit. They exchange blows until Jang Hyuk slams him against a car and cuffs him. “Gotcha! You’re unaware that I’m a crazy dog,” he says with a smirk. The copy at the end reads, “Sound-chasing monster detective, Moo Jin-hyuk.”

The third teaser opens in a creepy, abandoned warehouse. As an emergency call is answered, a woman screams to be saved. A foot stomps on the phone and ends the call. Three minutes (the “golden time” to save an endangered person’s life) are on the clock as Jang Hyuk scans a suspicious area. Meanwhile, Lee Hana is at the call center, picturing herself in the victim’s location by focusing on the environmental noises she detected earlier. As time’s about to run out, Jang Hyuk grabs onto the door handles. Lee Hana’s eyes fly open and she says, “Found it.” And Jang Hyuk snarls, “I got you, you jerk.”

The teasers are skillfully edited, magnifying the sounds so that we understand Lee Hana’s impeccable psychoacoustics. Sound will play a significant role in this drama, and I’m already hooked on how it’s been enhanced and manipulated in the teasers. Even the sound of mere static put me on edge.

Voice will premiere on OCN on January 7, 2017.
