@sugarplum892 & @thunderman1 in all honesty, I'm a sucker for dramas where the main lead is sick. I've watched so many of them that a lot of times I get sick of it, but this...the story itself is rather dull and predictable but Godfrey's acting....makes everything so much better. I think I basically skipped any scenes without him in it. Whether it be the serious, 'I'm about to die', or when he's making fun of his brother with the straightest face ever.

I thought that he was one of those actors that just rarely took on roles...never in a million years did I think he was a model turned actor.

It's not to say that he's one of the best actors I've ever seen, but for the role he plays here --> it's more than enough. One part is due to his good looks, but another is due to the nuances he puts into playing 'the sick man'.

Definitely give it a try, but I warn you...within 2 episodes I hated the female lead. She's obstinate and blinded by love, but I guess without her, you wouldn't have a story in the first place.

hello guys! First time in this thread. Nice to meet you!

I'm big fan of the book, read it 2yrs back and that was the only Chinese book I was interested in.

i decided to watch the show in Chinese subs(after letting myself waited for a month but still no eng subs)

after I finished all episodes, I truly fell in love with Lichuan & Xiaoqiu again. Truly love the immense acting, especially I was able to relate their predicaments like how it was portrayed in the book.

What I need now is to get hold of the dvd and ost. Marvellous music made I can say.

I just watched this. Oh, what's with the ending! The novel had a happy ending.

Godfrey (Li Chuan) is really really handsome! The main girl is really lucky to have him as co-star. They do have many kissing & embracing scenes together.

At one point i sort of got annoyed with the script. On one hand, LC is always telling her to MOVE ON but yet on the other hand, he's always there when she needs him. How is she supposed to move on. The girl at one point, i thought she's obsessed already. I dont understand the part where she wrapped herself in towel & walked in to the Conference Room.

Anyway, a wonderful heartwrenching drama, in love yet cannot be together. Li Chuan & Qiao Qiu got good chemistry together. Understand there will be a 2nd series 再见王沥川 but Godfrey is not acting in it as he got other projects. Not sure how true or just rumour.

But if there's a 2nd series, than i would presume Li Chuan didnt die in the 1st series.

i am so embarrassed to tell you that ....or maybe i'm not alone...i've watched & re watched this drama few times. Just could'nt let go of ""alex wong"" . Li Chuan is so dashing here (only i noticed that sometimes the scenes don't coordinate, his hair will give you the tell tale sign). His acting is i should say, his best so far. As what Xiao Qiu said in an interview, his eyes carried all the emotion. I wouldnt say i like Xiao Qiu (in the drama). The writer made her somewhat rather rude & less likeable. I guess she is portrayed better in the book. But her chemistry with Li Chuan is superb, that makes up for it i guess. Her acting is natural too. As for the 2nd series, i read in the Director's weibo that if it's not the original cast, he will not film it. As what we know so far, Godfrey is not coming back for season 2 due to his other work commitments. Not sure how true this is but i honestly hope there is a season 2 with the original cast. i hope this drama will win them some award this year. The drama was recognised in 2016 for being top 10th drama for the year (rank 3rd if i am not wrong). As for the ending...the one broadcasted in taiwan had the happy ending - the novel had a happy ending too.

I read the book and loved it.  Though I promised myself not to watch any sad ending dramas or movies, I could not resist to see how the story would be acted out.  I wanted some visuals and though I know that Godfrey Gao is a real eye candy, I was not too sure about his acting.  I must say that he was the perfect Li Chuan as Mark Zhao was the perfect Ye Hua.  The drama Xiao Qiu is a bit different than what I would visualised but it is a positive outcome; Xiao Qiu was actually quite pretty in a natural way!  Xiao Qiu in the book was supposed to be a chain smoker (can imagine all yellow stained teeth and bad skin) and flat chested (as the split up with Li Chuan affected her puberty)

I was rather disappointed that I could not find any English subtitled episodes so I was desperate enough to watch them raw.   Having read the book, I was able to understand 80% of the dialogues except the technical parts and the poems (I am a banana but understand a little Mandarin through my job).  I am very sad that the drama ended this way but I guess it was more realistic than the book as Li Chuan was so ill that he was at heaven's door already.  WIth such a sad ending, the author should had allowed Li Chuan to relent in the end and allow Xiao Qiu to stay by his side till he passed on.  At least this would have created a bitter sweet ending and help soften the heartbreak a bit.  Anyway, both leads did a good job with the emotional scenes and I got so emotionally involved so much so I am still depressed today even though I watched the ending yesterday.   I had to re-read the few chapter and the epilogues of the book just to try to get myself out of this sad mood.

I read somewhere that there is supposed to be a sequel planned and I hope it will really happen and the sequel will give the story a happy ending as some miracles do happen!  I am wondering whether the lack of subtitles is due to the story ending as many fans of the book are afraid and refuse to even view it?

@Christina Gordon: I am with you. Took me awhile to come out of the drama having watched the ""open"" ending broadcasted in Mainland. However, it's a different ending (HE) broadcasted in Taiwan. I had to watch the BTS to lift up my mood.

I guess the scriptwriter (also the book author) changed XQ to be an alcoholic instead of a chain smoker. As for flat chested, the drama XQ isn't that busty though (lol).

I read in the Director's weibo that Li Chuan didnt die. I guess it was an open ending (Mainland version) in order so they could do series 2. But sad to say, i read that series 2 has already begun filming with different casts. It's not the original casts & not the original Director as well. Fans are so upset with the news that they are planning not to watch. Not sure how true the news is but if it's not the original Li Chuan + XQ, it's not the same flavour anymore.

From my understanding of the drama, I think the one who can't move on is Li Chuan. He went back to Shanghai after 4 years of silence. I really don't agree that he just left without saying goodbye to XQ (in the drama). At least cook up a reason for the breakup even if he doesn't want her to know his illness. In the book he did bid goodbye but hastily. When XQ gave him the cold shoulder, he tried to get close. But when XQ tried to get close, he distance himself. At least we can see some sweet moments when XQ visited Zurich & Li Chuan's grandfather was nicer in the book than in the drama.

And that Jeanette (in the drama), could'nt the makeup artiste or hairstylist give her a nicer hair wig. Her original hair is long.

This is indeed a lovely romance drama with great chemistry. It took me awhile to get over the drama.

One thing i would like to commend is the performance of Godfrey Gao here. He made Wang Li Chuan alive. He was never in my list. I watch this bcos of Jiao Jun Yan as she was lovely in Goodwife 101.
