Thanks @EMM! They are Cute. It's the 2nd time in 2016 i am watching this kind of Sweet and Pure romance.

Quote

Boys—and love itself—can seem like the most important part of a girl’s life, and in their youth, it can seem like the most painful. We grew up reading all sorts of fairy tales about princes, and like those princes, we were made to believe our significant others were supposed to protect us from the pain, not cause it. And while I firmly believe princes do exist (they’re out there, ladies, I swears it!), they don’t always have to do the protecting. That’s what friends are for.

EPISODE 8: “Hope, that damned hope #suspicious man”

Park Eun-bin to take leading role in weekend MBC drama

ParkEunBin1.jpg

Actress Park Eun-bin (Age of Youth) will take a leading role in the new MBC weekend drama Father, I’ll Take Care of You

Park’s character is named Oh Dong-hee, an assistant writer bound by her slave-like contract. Her life has been replete with regret and suffering due to a terrible secret she’s harbored for twenty-six years while living under her brother’s shadow. Even though she’s tied down to her job, Dong-hee encounters new people at work who allow her to open her eyes to love again.

Due to Park’s superb performance in the currently airing JTBC drama Age of Youth, she has already landed a new starring role, which will require her to deliver a mature portrayal of an adult woman, after growing up as a child actress and playing a number of youthful characters

I am out of my little down mood and have a discussion with my fellow viewers.

We are a minority here but on streaming sites each and every episodes generate good number of comments. Most of active visitors of dramabeans are watching it too. So it might be less talked but the show has created its own Loyal Audience. This has become a niche tv show now.

Thanks @badsmuler @kasjady @qiets for ratings+links+video

@conankung Thanks for the Preview. Seems like Ye Eun will make us all smile and cry at the same time.

@EMM! most of the discussion and analysis is on dramabeans. It seems like most members are into popular shows and i have seen JTBC's dramas do generate the type of buzz TVN's dramas does. Marketing all the way.

Episode 07 and 08 truly a decent roller coaster ride. Cute Eun Jae and Jong Yeol. That "I like You" was hilarious and all the thoughts of it being a prank were also realstic and showed the fears of shy yet strong Eun Jae. It was also good to see Eun Jae voicing these concerns to Oppa in episode 08. Eun Jae like all other girls hide a big secret that actually financially helped the mother. Also mother looks emotionally weak and immature. Jong Yeol's sly smiles make it all for me.

Min Jyung enduring and tolerating the sexual harassment was painful to see. But at last Min Jyung stood up and gave he creepy manager the right answer. Let's see if it was Yi-Na then Yi-Na would have put that creepy manager into his place. It was really heartwarming to see all girls standing up for Min Jyung in the convenience store and same in episode 08 when Eun Jae screamed and Oppa Jong Yeol was beaten by the girls. Tired girls returning home in the morning and happily walking was another good Bonding moment of the show.

Girls giving advice to Eun Jae on love showed different views of girls on Love and relationships.

Yi Na and Ye Eun and Jin Myung struggle is true and realistic. We all know girls and women get into wrong relationships all the time and that's the case with Ye Eun but slowly-slowly Ye Eun is coming out of it and I liked when Ye Eun broke with that boyfriend.

Yi Na saving and talking and kind of Consoling Ye Eun was another emotional moment. Ye Eun could bear indifference of Boyfriend but couldn't accept the Cheating and build all the courage and tried to moved on and the way all the girls hugged and consoled Ye Eun made it all real.

Notice from Episode 6 last few minutes to episode 8, Now Jin Myung has more screentime with all the girls. So it feels good that Jin Myung is more mingling with girls and even depending upon them.

Jong Gyu has suffered a lot and wants some answer but at the same time dangerous.

But this allows Yi Na to face the moral troubles and moral dilemma now. This is the time for Yi Na to grow now and face the reality and work upon the character and now only appreciates other girls who still hold those values.

Yi Na is fond and protective of the girls whom Yi Na has build a bond. It is pretty evident from 1st few episodes and in episode 8 by saving Ye Eun from that situation proves that again.

Ji Won the love life of the house has less screentime in these episodes but whatever Time Ji Won was on screen it was awesome. From Porn to talking about self-esteem.

Ji Won is Ji Won and like everyone else i also want to know more about Ji Won. But i think Ji Won does the work of emphasizing the other girls struggles and problems.

Through Others girls we come to know Ji Won more. But I want to see why Ji Won is so fluffy and at time so Intellectual. Full of fun and excitement and then making strong words of wisdom.

The girls surely need Ji Won more. We the audience need more Ji Won and Sung Min the fellow.

I think we don't need Ji Won part of life as present Ji Won present us lot to speak for.

Everything is just perfect in this show. This show is now added into my all time top 5 kdrama list.

Thanks to everyone for the updates and posts! I don't write often but I try to check in every couple of days and I always appreciate the new pictures, videos, insights, etc.

Catocat, I agree with so many of your points here! It is really interesting insight in to each of the girls and their 'worlds'.

I particularly like your take on Ji Won as the way in to the other girls problems for the audience. I'm curious to see how/if the writer pushes on how her more assertive ideas of femininity and sexual awareness fit within Korea's changing but still quite traditional environment. I also think she serves to lighten the drama, which lets be honest, has lots of dark/sad aspects presented in an incredibly realistic way.

I hope to see more of Ji Won's story independently and I'm curious if she will have a 'surprise' reveal secret or if she will turn out just to be the contrast to Yue En (who is also a girl with no large tragedy that we know of but her problem is not with finding a guy but getting to attached to the wrong one). In the latter case Ji Won's story will likely involve either getting a guy (likely as this is a Kdrama) or deciding she doesn't want one after she's given the choice.

Drawing in something from the first episode - I love the idea that Eun Jae talks about at the end - that she has been arrogant in assuming that the other people were different from her. I feel like that is the thread of the drama, that as they grow each girl becomes more empathetic to those around them and we as an audience continually see that despite their different personalities, they have so many similarities by looking at the everyday life that happens in the cracks between the big momentous events in one's biography. I just think its a lovely theme and I hope they keep it going.

Today's episode was weird for me. Did not understand what was going on with Yi Na and Eun Jae, individually. Is Eun Jae's mother pulling off an insurance scam? Killing off her family? So weird. Now Eun Jae can't tell her FB anything, so their relationship is strained.

YE's boss is a total jerk, and a creep, to boot! She is the most pitiful character! So glad the previews show her finding happiness with the chef..... He's a keeper!!!

After watching episode 9.... this drama is such a keeper.

Eunjae - I'm not sure what's happening, but as viewers we're fairly confident her father's death was not an accident. I'd need to rewatch or read up the dramabeans recap since there were two other past family members who also passed away. @auntyem From the investigator it sure does look like one, however from past episodes she's not angry at her mother but at her father. I'll be shocked if her dad is actually alive. Anyways, EJ needs to open up to someone so if it's not the girls than at least her boyfriend, who was willing to hear.

Yi Na - I'm glad her issue is at a resolve, Ahjusshi finally tells her to live a good life and hands her his daughters bracelet as a good luck charm. She can finally start her life anew,  and I look forward to her changes.

Ji Won - Sadly in this episode Ji - Won doesn't get much of a story. In fact the one main scene of her (ranting to her Sunbae ><)  is saying that she wished she had something going on in her life LOL. I just love their bantering, if there's someone that can take care of Ji Won it's definitely him. He even mentions that he almost called 911 when Ji-won left a will on the table, only to find out it was out of boredom (or was it??).

Ye Eun - Thank goodness she's taking the steps to move on. The beginning was hilarious, seeing her delete their photos one by one. It's going to be frustratingly hard though for Ye Eun. Her ex doesn't seem to believe it, but we'll wait and see.

Jin Myung - Poor girl. At the same time I'm happy that she finally got the energy to scream back at her manager. Getting accused for stealing at her workplace and be humiliated like that was her last straw. The previews look good for her, seeing her on a date - I just hope it's not a dream sequence.

I'd love it if all girls find their happiness (and are alive!!), but I'm also cautious since the writer wrote "White Christmas".

I liked that Yi Na realized that she was stuck (honestly she was hiding from having to 'live'). It was interesting to see her slowly become more and more aware of how limited her life was (and how she was trying to fill that hole with money/men but not anything that would be around for a 10 year reunion). At then end when she finally got that permission to forgive herself, let go and live it was like seeing all this internal torture/blame lift. Ji Myung has a very visible fear about being worth less than everyone else, but I think Yi Na had the similar problem just covered up in bravado, money and pretty clothes.

My take on Eunjae (and the investigation of her mother for insurance fraud because she had made three claims in a 10 year period) --> EJ's mother comes off as immature and difficult to deal with but I doubt her Mom killed any of them (there are only 3 episodes left ;) ). Below is totally my speculation/guess, not spoilers.

  • The mother in law's death was 17 years ago but we weren't told what she died of (it could have been natural causes).
  • EJ's brother was from a peanut allergy reaction but it seems way too makjang for EJ's mother to kill her own son.
  • EJ's father - her mom seemed to truly miss her dad when talking about the peaches a few episodes ago, so her killing him makes no sense and I agree he is definitely dead.  ...    However, I think EJ believes that it was not just a simple car accident that killed her dad -- and she hid that from her mom. Just a guess but I think it all relates to the thermos in her vision. EJ lied about being there so I am guessing she removed it from the car - fearing it would prove her dad was impaired (maybe drunk or maybe after an allergy attack similar to what his son had?) or he committed suicide. I think that's why she keeps saying that her mom should be thankful to her (because mom gets to keep the good memories and the belief that it was an accident while EJ knows, or thinks she knows, the real truth). She's afraid that the new investigation will reveal the death was suspicious.

Just my two cents... curious to see if others have different theories :)

I too think her mother is not suspicious. There was a scene where Mum asks EJ, if she should give some money to other relatives and also that peach scene you've mentioned. Yeah that thermos strikes as a pretty good evidence that it might not have been an accident. At this point your theories are great :)

Ok.....I must be dense, because I'm not sure, but did this happen: Ye Eun quit her restaurant job, withdrew her money to pay off the loan sharks, was going to move out, cuz she was going to pull the plug and kill her brother, but her Mom did it instead???? Unless I see it happen, I hate to imagine that it happened?????

I was confused as well, it was either that or.....

She wanted to say goodbye to her brother, give up on her studies & graduate opportunities and find  work else where (or worse end up killing herself). I think her mother didn't want her to give up on her future opportunities, and saw it as Jin Myung on her last straw (when she decided to leave the share house and take the deposit). Her mother truly thought that her son would wake up before he got his army notice, but once that chance was gone and seeing her daughter  give up everything she has on her was probably her breaking point.

It looks like it did happen as the mother was taken away by the police at the end. Maybe mom understood that Yoon Sunbae has given up on hope ("Hope brings misfortunes"). She wanted to end her daughters financial burden and suffering before her daughter did something that would ruin her life for good.

Heartbreaking scenes but at the same time I love how the girls all came together to support Yoon Sunbae in their own way.

Last two episodes next week, I'll miss these girls so much.

Yoon sunbae was ready to kill her brother and went to jail (or killed herself) hence she decided to quit her job and clear up her room (and do many other things).

Am I the only one who think that she really did pull the plug and kill her brother? Her mom doesn't seem to be the type who can do that. She watched her only daughter suffered for a long time without doing anything so why would she do it now? I can't imagine Yoon sunbae explained her end of straw situation to her mother for her mother to pull the plug. She knew it already for a long time and yet still didn't care. Her mom was quite stubborn with the whole situation throughout in my opinion.

Hence I think that Yoon sunbae was the one who pulled the plug. Her mom was just covering for her so that she didn't go to jail. I interpret the look that her mom gave her in the end as if to say 'Now look. I'm going to jail covering for you.'

I could be wrong on this though. We will know for sure in the next episode.

Hello by the way. ;) I've been silently stalking this thread and decided now to write my thought. So sad that next week is the end but I'm happy to see that the plot is slowly wrapping up nicely. Ye Eun breaking up with her boyfriend. Kang Yina found her will to live and not just existing. And now Yoon sunbae started to see light in her life (through a harsh way). One thing that I'm still curious about is that ballerina girl in the first episode. Hope that we will hear the explanation next week.

New here. I marathoner 8episodes last week. And am really surprised with how ! much I like this drama and it's portrayals of a group of girls all different and some of which face real struggles in their lives. Love their friendship and the loveliness most have.

I have the most emphatgy for Jin Myung. To hear a person admit seeing each day as obstacles to overcome she really not 'living'. Other than running around making money and going to unishe hasn't let herself enjoy or be happy much. With Chef jae Hwan she starts to imagine what it would be like. We saw her imagines if she had attended the party her housemates organise. Now with the recent development on her brother and mother I  wonder what's the next big decision she will make regarding her life and jae Wan.

Here's a fmv of them

Only 2 episodes. Sad to see it's endinj but am oso looking forward to know how it wrapped up for all the girls
