Heya, newcomer here. Saw this forum about Ddongi couple and thought I would join in. Better late than never, right? I saw all the reviews and info you guys have posted so far and as the show progressed its clear just how much Eric and Solar's relationship has developed. A friend of mine introduced me to WGM a while ago and since then I have been a fan of Eric and Mamamoo. Love loveee CHMS and the new Memory album.

Anyway, thought I'd post about some things I noticed in the last ep.

  • Eric added the photos from the Oct. 26 filming (park date and prank ep) into the album he gave Solar
Spoiler

Screen%20Shot%202016-11-24%20at%2014.39.

It's not clear but when Solar took out the photo album, their photo from the photo booth fell out. I think Eric may have slipped it in to the album when they were packing.

Screen%20Shot%202016-11-24%20at%2013.44.

  • They might've eaten churros just like their first WGM meeting
Spoiler

Screen%20Shot%202016-11-24%20at%2013.40.

Either it was a coincidence to eat churros for the last meeting or it was on purpose to eat what they ate the first time they met. There were just so many parallels from the last ep with their previous eps as pointed out by some of you.

Screen%20Shot%202016-11-24%20at%2013.50.

  • They wore the couple sweatshirt!
Spoiler

It looked like Eric was trying to hide the album in the sweatshirt during the episode but they ended up wearing it when they left their house

Screen%20Shot%202016-11-24%20at%2013.43.

It's not exactly shown since they have their coats zipped up but we can get a glimpse of it from their photo.

Screen%20Shot%202016-11-24%20at%2013.45.

Solar had her coat zipped the entire time but since Eric has it on I assume she would too

Screen%20Shot%202016-11-24%20at%2013.38.

They finally coordinated their outfits on the final episode *sigh* I hope they can wear their matching scarves from Eun Ah sometime this winter ;)

Oh and I don't know if you guys have seen this Ddongi thread before on Twitter. It has most of their best scenes, though I think they're missing Eric's wish at Jeju and their talk in the inflatable pool, but it's worth checking out.

*in delulu mode*

Seeing these two clips really make me wish this is how things will be post-WGM for Eric and Solar

Spoiler

Imagine gatherings with Mamamoo and their other friends when they have a day off. It would be so cute seeing them casually feed each other in front of their friends

Not to mention casual phone calls asking where the other is and giving gifts just because they want to. Fingers crossed this is their future, guys *delulu*

Still can't believe there is no more Ddongi on WGM. They really were my dose of happiness on the weekends. That just means we have to vote for Eric and Mamamoo on award shows to make sure they turn up and have a Ddongi reunion hehehe. I believe they'll continue to grow as individuals and artists and win a lot more awards in the future. Leggo Ddongi!

Oh btw, can you guys add me to the Kakao group? My ID is jspring10

Looking forward to seeing updates from you guys on this thread.

Ppyong.

Man of the year? lols Congrats! I bet he's grateful that a certain mbc show that we talk about on this thread was able to show off his qualities...

@spring10 Welcome! Chingu, that's a lot of little details and stealthy camera transitions you were able to catch in one episode, I always feel upset that I can't catch them myself :P Feel free to share whatever clues that you were able to find on the older episodes. I'm a little surprised that mbc chose not to emphasize those first episode parallels, probably thought it would set the wrong mood.

@Ira Ajja I am also in and getting out of this state of denial...No worries fam :sweatingbullets: I suppose this is my first hardcore ship, and no matter how much I occupy myself, my hopes for ddongie are still in the back of my mind. I've come to just accept that.

Regarding the MAMA awards, from what I've read about it, there seems to be a general public and idol agreement that it's kind of a rigged show. People think that it's a popularity contest that appeals to albums and groups with huge chart sales as opposed to quality releases. I remember G-Dragon from Big Bang rap-dissing the show a couple years ago: http://www.allkpop.com/article/2014/12/g-dragons-lyrics-from-2014-mamas-garner-attention-for-its-sarcastic-tone

However, I'm not complaining right now since MAMAMOO is behind BEAST in votes for the Vocal Performance Award, and lowkey hoping their chart sales will give them the necessary boost :phew:  I do think the girls deserve to win. Also happy that Eric seems to be making the most out of his appearance in this year's MAMAs.

i watched Yang Nam Show today and i found interesting talk between eric and sehyung.. (in the beginning)

edit: i add some screencaps because the link is taken down :(

Spoiler

starts in 00:37

judging from their outfit, this was recorded on the first ep (with I.O.I), but they just showed this part today (on second ep, with TWICE). so this was recorded when eric still on WGM (probably around the end of october)

(i just did the rough trans here.. feel free to correct me if i'm wrong :) )

SH: do you have any other program (like this show) which you are the fixed cast?

IMG_20161124_195407_zpshmfm0ail.jpg

SH: that wedding program, and..?

IMG_20161124_195422_zps22cnrkpa.jpg

E: that's all

SH: really?

IMG_20161124_195430_zpsrauj26pm.jpg

E: yes.. how about you?

SH: it's been 6-7 months (since my last program)

IMG_20161125_010555_zpsy4zoh7gw.jpg

E: you didn't know what to do for 6-7 months rite? you did the rough working style?

SH: no no

IMG_20161125_010548_zpsue0iptln.jpg

E: for me i like to concentrate on one program (before doing another)

SH: so we shouldn't do this (program)?

then he made this face

some thoughts about last ep..

Spoiler

1. welcome  @spring10! you have great eyes! now that you mentioned it, i watched it again and it actually stucked behind the album (the white paper), and it fell eventually. i hope they saw and picked it. that's a very precious photo..

IMG_20161125_024155_zpsfpdny020.jpg

2. these selcas were not aired before. eric's selca is from Sexy Love cover filming in US while solar's from their ketchup rice making episode?Screenshot_2016-11-20-22-12-56-58_zps3eq

Spoiler

Screenshot_2016-11-19-17-32-07-55_zpsjtz

Screenshot_2016-11-19-17-30-28-83_zpsyrl

the question is why eric has solar's selca on his phone? she must has sent it to him through private message when they're contacting each other outside filming (or maybe before/after filming that episode) *oklilbitdelu*

3. i love how solar proudly wrote "close friends = ME" in eric's resume (she did wrote it very big). she must know that eric has soooo many friends on his circle like amber, ailee, jimin, and others. but it must be awkward and uneasy to write those names (and they even haven't been invited to the show). it feels like solar would say "maybe i'm not speaking english, have different style, and i haven't known you for the longest time, but i can be your closest friend too! " (lol)

Screenshot_2016-11-20-22-02-09-59_zpsbwd

4. Q "the time when you want to hug him the most?" A "when he looks tired/when he has a hard time" it reminds me of this. eric looked very worn out on this ep (eventhough eric was the one who initiated the hug).

giphy.gif

5. Solar's message "don't drink coffee too much" i seriously agree with this.. eric himself said he drinks 4-5 cups of coffee everyday? i noticed too, there are cup of coffee that shown on few episodes that definitely eric's. i wonder how many cups of coffee that solar had witnessed during filming for 8 months..

Spoiler

IMG_20161120_222335_zpspf8rlhal.jpgIMG_20161120_222236_zpsdyuy11ny.jpgIMG_20161120_222415_zpsdy2zqbaf.jpg

6. Solar's message "reduce your schedule.." we already know how eric is a total workaholic that he would fly back and forth from korea to US or anywhere. both of them have to set the date for every filming. so i guess solar is the one who understand his schedule the most. how he rarely had time to rest, but still manage to do his best every filming, playing with her, making her laugh, etc. aigoo ㅠㅠㅠ

7. i love that ddongi utilize their house so much. it looked like they always go to their house before/after every filming? that house feels like their second house.. they have all their daily necessities there. i think other couple don't go to their house as often as ddongi, isn't it?Screenshot_2016-11-20-21-55-48-59_zps20w

they even kept the pink lunchbox (used in picnic date) in their house.

@gureentea - The YangNam link was taken down. :(

And about that selca - the only time Solar wore that shirt was after they went to the grocery and cooked at their house. It's plausible that she sent it to him after their WGM filming schedule since she was already wearing that shirt when they were driving off. She was still wearing the same shirt when her manager came to pick her up for her schedule, which explains the seatbelt. It's also quite possible that it's a mirrored shot (the seatbelt coming from the left would imply that she's the driver, but in the video it shows that she was sitting in the front seat of the van.)

Spoiler

So yeah, it's not totally delulu to think that it was sent offscreen. :P

Thinking about it, they didn't show all of the pages of the book, considering the fact that they have more selfie moments shown on the show than what was actually shown here (The Kite Flying picture, Dubai desert selfie etc.). I'd like to think that there were still some unaired pictures included there that only they would be able to relate to. :)

Meanwhile, let's see what we can fiddle with today. Downloading all the HD raws messes up my connection a bit. :w00t:

@spring10 Another hawk eye detective! Welcome chingu. Glad you've come to join us. You really pointed out a lot of things I completely missed out on even after watching the episode for so many times. Daebak! :D

@gureentea

1. It's highly likely that they picked it up. It seemed to slip straight down next to Solar's backpack/suitcase, and after reading his album they ought to see it when they looked down to close their suitcases.

Spoiler

78gkRmW.png

I don't see it anywhere on the floor.

And btw, I think it's okay even if they didn't pick up, because they have two don't they? (I think Eric keep the other one)

Spoiler

1RYQX9e.png

They stick them right there on the shelf lol. Showing off much?

Also, the fact that it was already there at the start of the episode mean they must have come back to the house before this (after their Hongdae date) to put it there. This was early in the morning, and Solar came by herself first to prepare for his birthday right? They couldn't have done this on the same date as the filming date.

2. I agree with @Le_Sanguinea, she definitely took it when she left to attend a Mamamoo schedule after their filming day (Apr 29th). She took that selca on the car with frontal/selfie camera mode and sent it to Eric either right there or some time later on. Knowing that, it's also highly likely that they exchange many selcas through phones, include that selca Eric took while in LA. Solar already started doing this with Eric even before their wedding proposal. Who knows how many more selcas have been going back and forth between these two since?

And another thing I noticed as well:

Spoiler

EMLa59S.png

That rolled-up paper there next to Dumbo in Solar's backpack, that look like something handmade isn't it? Is that one of the posters they made together on the wedding episode?

The only thing I could think of is this right here - the selfie poster they made together - which I guess is now in Solar's possession.

NhGTzZw.png

If it's not this, then I have no idea what that could be.

Glad to join this forum. Everyone here is so positive and welcoming :D

@gureentea likewise, you have great eyes for detail. Ahhh to think that they send selcas to each other :wub:

@enko20 I think it's highly likely that it was their selfie poster that Solar took home. Since the wedding was very memorable for them, it must be one of things they kept from that day.

Here's a new Memory diary (no subs) featuring MoonSun:

Disclaimer: This is not an episode review, or an episode analysis. It's more like, a blog post or something. Until now, I'm still not quite sure what to feel about their ending, but it's not as bad as it was 5 days ago. I'll still post additional stuff once I get my head on straight. :)

PART 3: OF SWAN SONGS AND EVER AFTERS

When is accurate to say you’re already feeling a sense of Nostalgia? A day? A week? A month? Does a sense of time matter when it comes to missing something you’ve had in your daily life for a certain period of time? I’ve never really thought about it too deeply before, since Nostalgia is a complex emotion that needs to have both sentimentality and sadness, as well as some sprinkling of happiness, for it to be recognized as such.

Looking back, it’s been 5 days since their last episode aired, 16 full days since they filmed their last episode, and I still don’t know how to express what I’m feeling right now. Is this Nostalgia? Or perhaps just some lingering feeling of emptiness because their parting still seems so recent?

To tell you honestly, this is the first time I’ve actually watched a finale right as it aired. Most of the time, I wait for a couple of months between episodes to lessen the feeling of separation and inevitability that comes with watching something you’ve emotionally invested in. I still remember downloading the farewell episode of Chun-Hee and Yejin from Family Outing Season 1 and stashing it somewhere in my hard drive, with the intention of watching it 2-3 months later to lessen the melancholy. It didn’t work – I still teared up watching it no matter how hard I steeled myself beforehand.

I guess I can attribute this aversion to Last Episodes to the fact that I watched Adam Couple, my first ever exposure to WGM and Korean Media straight to the last episode, where reality hit like a ton of bricks after watching them sing their goodbye songs to each other in ShimShimTapa. Even with Western Shows, I hated watching the last episode of a show as it aired, for the same reason why people find it hard to let go of something they’ve become used to – something that became part of their identity. People might argue that it’s overdramatic to feel this way over a TV show, but I disagree. It’s natural to attribute a sense of attachment to things that resonate with you on a personal level, whether it’s a thing, an event, a place, a person, or even a TV show you’ve come to love. Of course, the argument on realism will play a part on whether that attachment is healthy or not (overzealous shippers beware), but it’s perfectly normal to embrace something you’re passionate about as part of what defines you.

That being said, I don’t claim to like any of my past ships any less just because I didn’t watch their final episodes on time. More or less, some of the reasons came at the expense of real life, but I did watch them nonetheless, to bring about a sense of finality – to remind myself that nothing can really last forever in WGM, even though it pains us to accept that fact. From the very beginning, we knew that they would eventually film their last episode; we just didn’t know HOW and WHEN they would end. We don’t know whether they would grow together, or grow apart. We don’t know if they would end happily, or end in tears. We don’t know if they would end their last episode as friends, or as mere acquaintances. That sense of curiosity and hope are fundamental emotions that encourage people to join a ship – driven by the desire to see a happy ending for the couple that they support.

These two - Eric and Solar – these two are probably the few people in WGM that I’ve genuinely wanted to ship not just for entertainment. I don’t claim to have any logical basis for that fact, because I don’t have any, nor would I try to use logic to rationalize myself. No, it’s just pure intuition, the same reason why I was intrigued by their segment in the first place. After watching their first episode back in August up to the point where I joined the forum, gut feeling is what drove me to support them as a couple, without knowing any of their previous history nor their personality. I wanted to explain this reason before their last episode aired in this article, but I felt that I was missing something, so I opted to post this after watching their last episode to confirm something.

I wanted to see if it was their Swan Song or their Ever After.

Even the most cynical WGM viewers recognize the merit of people appearing on WGM.  They know that at some point in time, they were bound to connect with each other as they filmed their segment, even after arguing about whether their actions were plausible or sincere because of a script. However, more often than not, you could tell by their last episodes if they’re still going to be in contact after filming, or at the very least treat each other as friends outside the show. There’s always this subtext that would be evident beyond the sad and heavy atmosphere of the filming and no matter how subtle and difficult to spot it may be, there will always be some clues as to whether they would be able to maintain that connection over time. Cinnaminskies and enko20 already tackled some of those subtexts in their earlier articles, and most of them correlate with earlier details we already pointed out in previous details provided by our thread detectives. I wasn't actually looking for those details to be honest, I was more focused on reading the mood rather than looking for minute details in that episode. Like for example, Solar's celebratory dance after presenting the cake lacked her usual joie de vivre (which means brightness and joy), as well as Eric's somewhat flat reaction to her dance. I simply attributed that feeling to the fact that both of them knew it was their last day, but were trying hard to celebrate the little things that they could before they opened that red letter. Perhaps it was for the best though, as that somber atmosphere added to the mood leading up to the tender moment they shared right after Eric read the letter prepared for her.

Honestly speaking, having them fill out their resumes again after having spent the past 8 months together was a brilliant idea. All throughout their segment, we knew that they made a conscious effort to connect to each other by tiny little details that they share in WGM that show us they pay attention to each other more often than not. Watching them fill out their resume with bits and pieces of their quirks, albeit jokingly at times, was heartening to watch, because it illustrates how much they were able to connect to each other throughout their stint together. Things like listing their witticisms – “I like it!” and “Okay!” – we’re signs that they pay attention to each other’s habits, things that would usually be overlooked by people other than the ones who truly know the person on a personal level.  Fundamentally, this concept is different from just reminiscing over past events, as was the norm for most WGM final episodes.

Over the past few days, I tried to put in time to rewatch some of the other couple’s final episodes as reference, and the format is almost always the same – an event, a message, and a tearful goodbye. Not that I discredit the emotions that the other couples felt while they were filming that episode, but oftentimes I wonder if it was simply because they got caught up in the sad atmosphere of filming their last episode rather than being truly sad that they were going to separate. I’m not saying that that’s the case though – it’s more of an observation since we all know that it’s highly likely that the mood of a situation can affect how a person acts. In contrast, I liked how Solar and Eric chose to approach their last episode, by trying to preserve a somewhat happy and nostalgic mood instead of a somber and depressing one. They didn’t entirely succeed though, as was evidenced by the awkward and gloomy pauses in conversation during their taxi ride. But it seems as if they forgot about that during their final photoshoot that was reminiscent of their wedding photoshoot. I like to think that the hug they shared in front of the camera was their final shot before the director said “CUT!”, with them holding each other tightly before wrapping things up to shoot their BRIs.

eric-nam,solar

Another thing - I can count on my fingers the number of WGM couples that gave each other gifts before separating. Prime examples would be Yonghwa’s guitar gift to Seohyun and Leeteuk’s pair of shoes. None of them however, were as personalized as Eric and Solar’s gifts to each other. Both of their gifts obviously took time to make and compile, which tells us how much of an effort they made just to make their remembrance all the more meaningful. All those little details that they added were things that held special meaning for them, even down to the heart that looked like a steak (Lol Solar, you meat-lover you :P ) How did they squeeze in the time to make those given their busy schedules?

It was probably one of the more beautiful WGM farewells that they’ve put out in a while. Of course, I haven’t watched any of the more recent ones starting from LTE couple, but even if I did watch them, I’d still think that this farewell episode is one of the more poignant yet oddly heartwarming episodes I’ve ever watched. I'm thankful to the producers for the consideration that they put in, considering that other couples only get a measly 12 minutes to say their goodbyes. In retrospect, I realize that the PDs really were fond of our couple, not just in their interviews, but with how they acceded to the minor details that Eric and Solar requested. I doubt that it was the PD's idea to have them give each other personalized gifts on the show - they could have given it to each other offcam but I guess the PD agreed that it was a thoughtful moment that should be spent with the fans. I was a little sad at first, but after I watched it again and again and again, I was convinced that they’d still be friends outside this despite all the burdens of their idol status. As far as I know, Eric will still be a Solar-stan even after this - with him downloading all of her latest songs on his phone, and Solar will still send him her support via sneaky texts in private. Them getting together may still be a far-fetched idea, but who knows? Ever after doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s the end – it simply means that something will continue after the fact.

And knowing these two, we have reason to hope, and believe. :)

Side note: I'm seriously going to figure out how to make this image better. This is probably my favorite screencap from them. At least not until they release those images they featured on that album in their last episode. :D

And a lot of other soundtracks that will remind of them long after I’ve finished watching their segment for the nth time. Most of the background music from my favorite ships are saved in my playlist, like Happy Me from the time Jo Kwon sang in the ice rink, or Love Actually from PocaGuri’s street concert. Looking back, Ddongi couple gave me a lot of songs for my happy playlist (and probably some more that I have figured out yet). So yeah, it's going to take a while for me to completely get over them. Not that I want to, though. :D

Why is their ending song so catchy though?? I'm supposed to be sad dammit:w00t:

Thanks @gureentea for the link! :D
