[Drama 2016] Moonlight Drawn by Clouds / Love in the Moonlight 구르미 그린 달빛 ☪

Recommended Posts

I will get back to your lovely post later today, @stroppyse. :)

But first things first: the worst thing that could ever happen... happened to me yesterday... My computer which is pretty old to be honest decided to die on me, meaning I had to do a re-setup which means everything on my computer was deleted. Including: everything I've written on MDBC. My meta text, my OST analysis, my cinematography posts and all my gifs/screencaps: all gone. I could cry and I've been crying because I put a lot of effort, heart and time in them and now all my work is gone, except the stuff I already posted here.

I will try but can't promise to rewrite what I've written but of course this will take time and with my schedule I can't say when I will be ready. I'm so very sorry.

Hi @Jillia. And, OH NO! Given what you've already posted, I can imagine how much work must have gone into those lost files. No backups, huh? Oh well, they'll have to pass into the stuff of legends now...The Lost Moonlight Drawn By Clouds Theses of Jilla... I need a moment to mourn properly...

Okay, back. @Jillia, I can totally understand not having the time or the wherewithal to rewrite all that was lost. I can't even bring myself to rewrite a lost short post, much less the epic works that you put together. It's okay. I'm fine anyway. (Waaaahhh...) I'll just have to console myself by writing bits to this thread as I re-watch. I was saving it for when I finally watched the D-cut, but at the rate the release keeps getting pushed out, I may just have to do my random watch posts. I figure the only ones here any more are some of us die hard funs who won't begrudge my drawn out musings. :) Plus @Tien Le seems to have joined me in posting about episodes now, so yay!

Seriously, though, thanks for all of your contributions to this thread. It makes it ever so much more fun to be able to discuss it with you, and your ability to catch the slightest of nuances and frame it back to the ongoing themes of the drama is of nonpareil. And, while I can't say I'm not disappointed that your lost works will never see the approbation that they so richly deserve, I'll just cherish the ones that were already posted. I know that you're busy and that you have a lot going on. I hope you are fully recovered and that things are going well other than the computer death.

Thanks again and see you later. :)

love reading the new re-caps from @stroppyse and @Tien Le ! I am also lurking around while waiting for D Cut....which takes forever! I am also one who cant get over MDBC. I still watch it like almost everyday but just a few minutes so I wont over-watch it until D Cut.  hahaha.  But I always wonder how LY can marry RO....sooooo bad we didnt get to see a wedding between them!!  I think Teacher Dasan may claim RO as his granddaughter so RO can be LY's queen?

So sorry to hear @Jillia losting your stuff! So many hours of work!! I am sure you will have more great thoughts later after D Cut.

I saw a previous  post here that there is a BTS photo where the king was sick and lying in bed with LY next to him.  I think that was a scene edited out where the King beg LY to marry HY and thats where LY gave in to agree to the marriage.

Same ...same....I may still watch MDBC until D-cut releases.

And I feel very happy that there're still many friends love MDBC until now, almost 1 year.

I hope all MDBC casts could meet up in 1 year anniversary, since they made a really great drama.

Watching episode 7 again after a long time, and watching it out of sequence after picking it randomly makes it an interesting experience. This is the episode after LY and BY rescued RO from the Qing Envoy with YS’ help. The big dramatic rescue with attendant machinations, fights, and LY’s hero’s walk through fluttering banners was in episode 6. Episode 7 was to figuring out the aftermath.

The aftermath starts almost immediately as RO questions LY about what he meant by commanding her to stay near him at all times. LY is still working out in his head both what he feels and what he’s willing to do or not do about it. For now, he just tells her that RO is his eunuch so of course his eunuch should attend him. This deflates RO a bit as well, though she is further along the realization curve that perhaps she likes LY more than is seemly for a person in her position, especially since she’s masquerading as a eunuch.

The whole episode is about this tension between LY and RO as they both try to figure out their relationship. In the meantime, there are rumors floating around the palace, abetted by the Queen’s open observations, no doubt, that LY looks at RO not as just a favored eunuch but with the gaze of a man who loves a woman.  And, LY is serious about not letting RO very long out of his sight as he appears wherever she seems to be.

This is also the episode which has a parallel story of Eunuch Ma and palace maiden Wol Hee. I don’t think I realized until this episode because I had not watched many sageuks before that all of the palace maiden were considered to belong to the king and/or the crown prince. In the episode and in the puppet show, they talk about how the palace maiden are only available to the crown prince whether he chooses to make use of them or not. I wonder if that is one route to becoming a royal consort? Anyway, because LY never favored Wol Hee with his attentions, only Eunuch Ma. The first time I watched this episode, I don’t think I appreciated where it was going with this unexpected love story until nearly the end of the episode. It is the example of a forbidden love where the lovers knowing that ultimately they can’t be together still decide to express their love for each other. It’s similar, I suppose, to the modern concept of better to have loved and lost, then not to love again. It’s also RO’s musings to LY that a heart does what it wants to do regardless of what it’s supposed to do as well as that a good parting knowing that one had been loved is worth something, and may be the thing that keeps one warm in a lonely and difficult future. Perhaps not realistic in a historical sense, but I was glad that LY was able to get the King to release both Eunuch Ma and Wol Hee so that they could have a chance at a life together. Also, this is something that LY and the King could do with a simple decree, unlike the rest of the court intrigues around them, though I’m sure that even that act would have been fraught in a real royal court.

Anyway, both the example set by Eunuch Ma and Wol Hee as well as RO’s wistful musings finally galvanize LY to follow his heart and confess his love to RO followed by the kiss. The first time I saw the ending confession and kiss, I wondered how courageous was LY really, meaning did he know/suspect that RO was actually a woman when he did what he did. Having watched episode 8 and knowing what led to LY’s final confession and the kiss, I know now that LY would have confessed regardless of what gender RO was. If RO was actually a man, however, I don’t know that he would have immediately followed up with a kiss. Still, I remain convinced of the courage that LY showed in confessing to the person he loves regardless of her gender. If anything, I wonder about the courage LY showed in confessing to RO after he discovers her deception. On the one hand, there was probably relief that he didn’t have to question his own sexuality and the problems potentially posed by being a homosexual Crown Prince. On the other hand, he had just discovered that the person that he loves most in the world had lied to him about a fundamental facet of herself. Good thing for RO that LY wasn’t his paranoid father since a paranoid would have immediately started wondering about whether the deception was part of a plot to compromise him or some other scheme. Instead of questioning RO’s motives, LY just reacts in relief that he’s a normal man after all in love with a beautiful woman albeit one who was acting like a man.

There were other developments in this episode as well, like a potential love square that was about to happen with YS’ grandfather making an offer to HY’s father to marry their progeny together. This while HY was determinedly pursuing LY. And, YS offers RO the chance to become a woman again. I’m not sure if I’m glad that the drama didn’t pursue this angle or not. I think not pursuing it definitely cut down on HY’s role in this drama, and could have made for some interesting complications. However, ultimately, I think I’m glad that the drama decided to keep the focus on LY and RO rather than giving the second leads bigger roles.

Watching this episode again reminded me of all the reasons I fell in love with this drama. Of course, the OTP of LY and RO since most of this drama really was their love story. LY and RO at this point were still having cute push-pull interactions as they tried to figure out themselves and each other, and they never dumbed down this couple which is such a relief. But, the ancillary characters were interesting as well from the slap-happy Queen who had her own issues of insecurity, to the cadre of eunuchs and palace maidens who represented the alternate world of palace servants and their complex pecking orders and loyalties, to Byung Yeon who at this point is still RO’s stalwart Brother Kim and LY’s loyal and vigilant bodyguard not to mention starting to show a little of his interest in RO as well which he knows is impossible especially knowing that LY is interested in her.

I touched lightly on the second leads in the earlier paragraph, but I have to note that I really liked their characters. Ultimately, YS had more of a presence in the drama than HY with more of a growth arc, however, I liked both of these second leads who ultimately had their own issues and their own growth to do. They had small but pivotal roles in this episode, HY to incite jealousy in RO by seeing HY the noble lady interact with LY, though RO doesn’t know that LY was just gently telling HY off for invading his privacy. And, YS offering RO a real option to become a woman again and thus be safe from the dangers of being found out in her deception which would have been punishable by death.

Okay, I guess I went on and on again. It’s all this waiting for the D-cut that is doing me in. I swear. And, also because whenever I watch even an episode of another sageuk drama now, it reminds me of this drama. Speaking of sageuks, I finally got around to finishing Rebel: The Thief Who Stole the People where HY finally gets to be the female lead. It’s good. I don't know that I was as drawn in by it as I was with Moonlight Drawn By Clouds, but I enjoyed it a lot. Yoon Kyun Sang and Chae Soo Bin were both really good in that for anyone looking for another sageuk.

I know that there are still a few die hards that keep checking and posting to this thread. I can't believe that I'm still posting here. LOL. Thanks for putting up with my retrospective posts. :)

@stroppyse: I 'm still reading posts here. Yes, blame it on process waiting D-cut released. One more month to go for us. I hope it will be released on 22 August, 2017 - it's 1 year anniversary for MDBC - A meaningful date and event.

Like you said, Ep 7 was talking about how LY and RO recheck their feeling to each other.

To LY: Realising that he were in love with an eunuch hit him hard, but the only thing he cannot do was let Sam Nam go away or out of his sight.

I loved how he went to check her at puppet show (and yes, that's eyes looking at his lover, not his servant).Even he didn't allow to do that, but he closed one eye to let it happened and he will solve the result for her.

The scene when he came to Queen's place to rescue RO, oooh I love that scene so much and watch it again and again. As I told before, Bogum's acting, his eyes, his smile, the Queen, BGM are super thrilling and good( Furthermore, I really Queen's voice)

To RO: she knew she was in love with him (her CP), and this love is a forbidden love. She cannot have it and she can only keep it until she died. She thinks she will live her entire life with the happy time when she's his servant.

As a love-matcher, she'd like to match as many couples as she can, she hope even she cannot have happiness by herself, but she could help other people to be happy - another kind of happiness and she tried her best to do it (This is the thing that Eunuch Ma got  moved and help her to hide her ID)

The scene when she saw CP turned his back after watching her puppet show, she knew that he will be like that, and what happened between them could not go further.

- Yes, all female servants are his King's women, this way to be an royal's court.

I think decision to release Eunuch Ma and Servant Wol Hee, it's just CP's decision and King does not know anything about it. In palace, this thing is very small and King does not give attention to this issue.

And he is a CP - a man over all but under just only 1 person, he has right to do that.

I just want to share more my thinking about this Ep with you.

Actually, in the episode, I'm sure LY mentions that he convinced the King to sign the decree freeing the couple from the palace, though I didn't check subtitles to see if the subtitling picked up on it. Just as HY could only be freed by the King's decree later in the drama.

Otherwise, thanks for sharing your thoughts on the episode with me! You wrote some very good observations. Definitely more fun to be able to discuss together. Btw, one observation you made:

This was so on point. RO's face falls when she sees LY turn away. At that moment, I thought that it was because of a lot of intermingled reasons: that LY may not have understood and thus been displeased with her defiance of him to help Eunuch Ma, the futility of the love between Eunuch Ma and Wol Hee despite the chance to say what was in their hearts, but also because she recognizes the futility of her love for LY but does not see that she will ever get the chance to say it out loud as Eunuch Ma did for Wol Hee, especially since at this stage, she thinks what she feels for LY is one sided.

Also, I always love the scenes where LY comes to rescue RO. In those scenes, there is a crackling chemistry between LY and the Queen as adversaries trading thinly veiled barbs at each other. But, it's interesting to note that LY gets the better of the Queen which leads to LY being a close observer for years of the court and the inhabitants therein. So, he knows exactly what to say to enrage the Queen without actually having said anything directly offensive. Whew.

Let's keep sharing and keep up our insanity until the D-cut arrives. And, then I'm sure we'll have even more to talk about watching the new edits. :)

So the dcut is finally coming.  What are the posting rules?  I've noticed that not a lot of people posts about dcuts of any drama like Reply 1988. DOTS, and etc.  Is it because it's not allowed?  I know posting clips, screen caps are not allowed but can we talk about it at all?  Like if there is a deleted scene, is it okay to freak out about it here?

I was totally planning on commenting about the D-cut once I had a chance to watch it, so I hope it's not against the rules. I think it's just that there will be far fewer of us commenting since not everyone got the D-cut. Anyway, I didn't read anything in the Rules about not discussing D-cuts. Do you know when the release date is, and is it firm this time?

So I guess we all have our answers.  Talking about scenes/videos in text is not allowed.  This is kinda disappointing since I was hoping to get insights on the videos that don't have translation.  But I guess I should be happy that we're getting a dcut.

Where did you find out that we're not allowed to talk about scenes/videos? Is it in the forum rules, and I missed it? Sorry, I'm a bit confused.

Thanks @princessfiana on the release date update.

Hi Stroppyse , welcome, I just checked the cafe for D Cut release date and it seems the date should be 30 Aug not 31, my fault, anyhow, one day early is not big difference for international fans~

Yea..the official cafe for the D Cut have set up strict rules for sharing stuff from D cut, as it seems that the Japanese fans sharing those Jap DVD have already upset the production.
