Plot

A husband works as a successful prosecutor and his future appears bright, but he gets arrested for corruption in a political scandal. Jeon Do-yeon confirms The Good Wife remake, Yoo Ji-tae considers

They did it, they actually did it—tvN has lured Jeon Do-yeon (The Shameless, Secret Sunshine, Harmonium in My Memory) back to television! What a major get.

Talk first emerged late last year that Jeon was in talks to star in the remake of the much-acclaimed American TV series The Good Wife, and after over a decade exclusively working in film, Jeon has confirmed that she will be headlining the show, taking the role originated by Juliana Margulies.

Moreover, Yoo Ji-tae (Healer, The Tenor—Lirico Spinto, Oldboy) is considering the role of her husband, the disgraced state attorney who gets sent to prison following a public sex scandal, propelling the main character to return to her former career as lawyer to support her family. In this version, his character would be a prosecutor with the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s Office. Perhaps he’s a little young for the character (he’s 39, Jeon is 43), but Yoo has a wonderful gravitas and somberness to his acting, so I don’t worry that he isn’t up for it. They’re both fabulous actors individually, and now I’m excited to see them together.

Directing is PD Lee Jung-hyo of dark noir series Heartless City and bright rom-com Witch’s Romance; writing is Spy’s Han Sung-woon. The Good Wife has secured a Monday-Tuesday timeslot on tvN, to follow mystery-romance Oh Hae-young Again, which in turn follows hostage-negotiator-thriller Pied Piper. It premieres in July.

I am very excited for this remake. I really enjoy watching the American series for 7 seasons now and I am curious how the Korean version will be.  I know that Jeon Do yeon is a big star in Korea, I heard only praises about her so I am looking forward to see her on screen. I am sure Yoo Ji Tae will sign for this drama too.

Jeon Do Yeon returns to small screen

Top actress Jeon Do-yeon, 43, will return to the small screen for the first time in 11 years in TV drama "Good Wife."

It is a remake of American TV drama "The Good Wife" on the CBS network.

Jeon will star as a lawyer and wife of a prosecutor who becomes embroiled in a political scandal.

The drama marks the long-awaited return to TV for Jeon, after her role in famous SBS drama "Lovers in Prague" in 2005.

Meanwhile, Jeon has been promoting her new film, "A Man and A Woman," which premieres on Feb. 25. Gong Yoo also stars in the film.

Saw the  movie trailer as Showbiz Korea did a lengthy piece about the movie and lead star couple of weeks ago. After seeing the  trailer, I thought  she can do Bridges of Madison County type of kdrama adaptation if there is one.  But her as the Good Wife, that is good too. Though I'm not familiar with the stars.  PD is the one who did Heartless City which I love so I'll check this one. Thanks for the thread.

The Good Wife (US) is a hard one to live up to. But with JDY, and if also with YJT, I'm sure they'll do well, if not better. Different flavors I would say. So looking forward to this drama. The plot sounds really good too.

Bridges of Madison County, haha! guess what? JDY happens to be in an upcoming kmovie "One Man & One Woman' in a forbidden love, kinda like 'Bridges' but in snow country instead. Her co-star?  Hot Gong Yoo...who I hope will come back to another kdrama soon.

Actress Jeon Do-yeon returns to soap opera scene with 'The Good Wife'

SEOUL, Feb. 24 (Yonhap) -- South Korean actress Jeon Do-yeon will make a TV comeback as the leading woman in "The Good Wife," her agency said Wednesday.

The upcoming tvN drama will be her first soap opera role in 11 years, Management Soop said.

In the South Korean remake of the popular American series of the same name, Jeon will play Hyekyeong, a housewife who resumes her career as a defense attorney after her husband lands in prison on corruption charges.

"I'd been wanting to get out of my comfort zone when they asked me to be on it," Jeon was quoted as saying. "I'm both excited and worried about being in a soap opera after more than 10 years. I'm going to have to work hard."

Jeon will portray the emotional turmoil experienced by a woman after her husband betrays and publicly humiliates her, the agency said.

The Korean series premieres at the end of June.

Actress Jeon Do-yeon is starring in the tvN drama "The Good Wife". This makes the entry to cable dramas along with Kim Hye-soo and Ko Hyeon-jeong complete. The ego battle between the 'big girls' starts now.

Kim Hye-soo takes on the role of Cha Soo-hyeon, a detective and her first attempt at a cable drama can be said to be successful.

Ko Hyeon-jeong is coming back in May with "Dear My Friends" which is written by hit-maker Noh Hee-kyeong. The quality of the drama is trustable.

"Dear My Friends" is the life story of twilight youths starring Ko Hyeon-jeong, Ko Doo-sim, Nah Moon-hee, Yoon Yeo-jeong, Kim Hye-ja, Kim Yeong-ok, Park Won-sook and Joo Hyeon. There are special appearances by the younger generation such as Lee Gwang-soo, Jo In-Seong and Seong Dong-il.

@jadecloud ohmigosh  actually it was what came in to my mind when I saw the trailer like it's kinda "Bridges"  hence I thought about it. I like that trailer too bad not able to watch the movie. I hope it gets sub  and shown on either Viki or DF.

Are these 3 actresses rivals? Just curious. I'm not familiar with any of them or their dramas. I'm watching Signal but I'm also going to watch the two other dramas. Who's got the edge though, I wonder.   How about Son Ye Jin should do a comeback too, probably? At least I'm familiar with her and like her. (off topic..sorry)

Jeon Do-yeon cast as lead in ‘The Good Wife’

Award-winning actress Jeon Do-yeon, who has been more active on the big screen lately, is making a return to television after a decade-long absence.

Jeon’s agency announced yesterday that she has been cast for the tvN drama “The Good Wife.” 

Her last drama was “Lovers in Prague” (2005) on SBS.

A legal and political drama, “The Good Wife” is a remake of a U.S. TV series of the same title.

The actress will be playing Hye-kyung, a housewife who, due to her husband’s incarceration for sex and political scandals, returns to her old job as a litigator 15 years after she ceased working. 

Speaking on her new role, Jeon said, “I always wanted to widen my array of choices. It’s been almost 10 years since the last time I was part of a drama. I am excited and a bit anxious at the same time,” 

“The Good Wife” is scheduled to start airing at the end of June.

She will appear in a remake of the hit U.S. TV series "The Good Wife," scheduled to be aired in June. She last starred in the SBS drama "Love in Prague" in 2005. 

"The Good Wife" revolves around a woman who resumes her career as a lawyer after 15 years of being a homemaker as her husband is jailed following a political corruption and sex scandal. 

The new tvN series will focus on portraying a woman's struggles as a lawyer, a mother and a human being after her husband's betrayal.

"I was attracted to the part mainly because of the genre and story line," Jeon said. "I am excited and worried at the same time as it's my first drama role in over 10 years. I am thankful that many people showed interest and support. I will try my best not to disappoint them."

I am very curious how this version will be. I am a fan of the original series. I am still watching every week (they are at season 7).

In American version, the husband doesn`t have a big role. He is not a serial regular...

I think they took the concept/ the idea but they will make a new story for this adaptation. Either way, it will be interesting.

It will be my first Korean adaptation drama after a popular series. I don`t know what to expect. I would like a new story for  this kdrama even if they will start from the same setup.

My my, they just keep lining up good actors for this project. Though I guess once you score A-list film actress Jeon Do-yeon (The Shameless, Secret Sunshine) to headline your drama, you’d be crazy not to give her charismatic co-stars to work with. The Korean remake of the critically-acclaimed American television series The Good Wife has confirmed Jeon for the main role, as well as Yoo Ji-tae (Healer) to play her husband; now Yoon Kye-sang (Last, Full Sun) is being courted to play her main love interest.

Ohh is he going to be the Korean William Gardner? Oh no, I already want to ship the two already. I wonder how much of the American story will be incorporated into this remake. There's a lot of content to go with, and not all the themes would be appropriate for the target audience, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Kim Seo-hyung in final negotiations to join The Good Wife

Casting continues to impress on tvN’s The Good Wife remake, which is now in final negotiations to cast Kim Seo-hyung, making for a robust lineup — not that I’d expect any less of the project that finally lured Jeon Do-yeon back to the small screen.

Jeon (Shameless, Secret Sunshine) was the first to confirm as the lead character of a woman who returns to the workforce following her husband’s fall from grace when he’s caught up in a political scandal. Yoo Ji-tae (Healer) plays the disgraced husband who goes to prison, with Yoon Kye-sang (Full Sun) in the mix to play the heroine’s law firm colleague and love interest.

You may know Kim Seo-hyung for playing fierce, competent, often badass secondary roles; at least, that’s how I always think of her. Her drama credits include political dramaAssembly, sageuk Empress Ki, satirical History of a Salaryman, and quintessential makjang Wife’s Temptation. The character she’s up to play is friends with Yoon Kye-sang’s character and his co-CEO at the law firm, which is where our heroine will end up when she decides to return to practice after 13 years away from her career.

The description sounds more along the lines of the Christine Baranski character, who initially harbors doubt over the heroine’s return to law and later comes around to provide support and advice. Although, if we’re talking strong female solidarity I’m wondering if we’ll be getting an Archie Panjabi character too, since their solid friendship became a highlight of the show (well, at least before the rift broke them apart). Maybe they can give Kim Seo-hyung elements of both characters?

The Good Wife will air in June.
