New SBS drama 'Daebak's producer revealed why Jang Geun Suk will not be wearing a mustache.

'Daebak' is a fictional historical drama, which means all the male characters are expected to have a mustache to follow the style of the era. The director revealed that even Yeo Jin Goo will be wearing a mustache in the later episodes of the drama. However, Jang Geun Suk will be an exception.

The director explained, "We did put the mustache on, but then took it off because it was covering Jang Geun Suk's face. We tried on and off several times, and it looked better without it." He also said, "The drama will become too manly if every character has a mustache. Also, Dae Gil is the main character of romance, and it wouldn't fit the public image of Jang Geun Suk."

Overall, Jang Geun Suk's pretty face without the mustache meets the expectations of the viewers and the director. We might not see Jang Geun Suk with a mustache, but Yeo Jin Goo will show a new side with some facial hair on 'Daebak'.

The premiere of 'Daebak' is set for March 28 KST (Korea Standard Time)!

More details have been released regarding Jang Geun Suk‘s “Daebak.”

SBS‘s new Monday-Tuesday drama “Daebak,” written by Kwon Soon Gyu and directed by Nam Gun, is about Dae Gil (Jang Geun Suk), the forgotten son of the king, and his younger brother Yeon In Gun (Yeo Jin Goo / future Yeongjo) fighting for survival, the throne, and love.  As a drama set in the Joseon era with a unique story, artful integration of the writer’s imagination with the historical setting, and skilled actors, “Daebak” has quickly become one of the most anticipated dramas of the first half of 2016.

Part of the reason that “Daebak” is attracting the interest of potential viewers is due to the return of actor Jang Geun Suk to the small screen in over two years. Jang Geun Suk is a Hallyu star who has been recognized, not only for his acting in diverse projects, but also his star status. Especially due to the success of his past historical dramas, the public is showing increased anticipation for his appearance in “Daebak.”

Meanwhile, an image of Jang Geun Suk’s character in the drama was revealed for the first time on March 8. The teaser poster, showing the actor with a deep, intense gaze wearing humble garbs and a satgat (traditional Korean hat) over somewhat unkempt hair perfectly expresses the character Dae Gil who grew up as the king’s forgotten and resentful son. The phrase “Vengeful Dae Gil, the best gambler in Joseon” on the poster adds to the intensity of the character and further amplifies viewer’s expectations.

What is most noteworthy here is the potential of Jang Geun Suk as an actor. He seems to effortlessly express Dae Gil’s characteristics through his gaze and facial expression alone while captivating viewers through his unique control over the camera. Anticipation is rising for “Daebak” and how Jang Geun Suk will portray Dae Gil, the best gambler of Joseon.

The first episode of “Daebak” will be broadcast after the end of “Six Flying Dragons” on March 28.
