Hi. It's been about two days since I last posted. I got wind of the rumours of JY and ZZ ban from Chinese TV then but I chose not to post it here. I see that it has since generated a "tsunami" here. From what I can gather, the latest news is most likely fake. It is either a joke or sarcastic post by someone within his wechat group discussion that has since spread like wildfire until this obscure news agency picked it up. Besides, this latest news even involve DOTS and that would be very odd. Unless Chinese wants to destroy its service and creative industry at a time where it's manufacturing sector is teetering, it is highly likely to be just an sarcastic post. Even the first news (many many many threads back) was not from an official source. Even though Sina is a major news agency, it was written as a rumour, and not as an announcement. Let's wait for the official news.  

JY has been extraordinarily quiet in the past day. He had not posted on Weibo for 8 days. ZZ had to post something in response to an accusation that he plagiarised someone else work for his latest English song. It seems to be a tough time for them. I am atheist and do not believe that prayer works. But I think fans' support will give them strength to pull through.

Nevertheless, I am quietly confident that there are people within SARFT or close to SARFT who would be sharing the pros and cons of such absolute moves. There will be people who can see that at this stage of the Chinese economic development, the best option for peace, social stability and prosperity is to cater to the varying needs of the people. At the same time, they would know that this is an opportunity to exert their influence around the world through soft power and gain goodwill. When is the last time you see Koreans chasing after Chinese stars? So it is a battle between the old guards who believe in maintaining control over economic progress versus those who believe that the best control is to cater to different needs.

There will also be those who know that if China wants to be seen as "culturally close" to Taiwan and Hong Kong, and to win back some of the hearts of young Hong Konger and Taiwanese, they cannot be too radical in their censorship. It is not so simple, especially when you are talking about the two hottest show right now in China i.e. DOTS and Addicted Web Series. There will be a lot more angry people than the censorships that they had previously done... The Chinese government wants a "harmonious" society. Generating too much public anger is not something they want. They should also realise that the young in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan actually have pretty similar tastes and values, which is one of the ways, they can tap on to keep the independence movement in check.

I hope that the more socially progressive Li Keqiang and others like him can influence SARFT to adopt a more moderate position. We will know after the Qing Ming holidays（which is from 2nd to 4th April). In the meantime, please stay calm and strong, everyone.

If I am not wrong, this month is one of the most eventful ones for the boys with the release of several things they have been in with the fanmeet comingup as well.

Personally, I see these things as all an attempt to discredit and bring the boys down in some way or another. It seems to target ZZ  more than anything compared to JY. 

Honestly, rumours that spread around are mostly that. As mentioned before,  both boys rose fast in the entertainment industry, there is bound to be people who dislike them or support one and hates the other. It is something that comes with the fame they obtained.

Then there are those who have been in the industry for some time and never achieved the level of fame both JY and ZZ did that may find it as something that shouldn't happen. 

It seems more of an attempt to dethrone them before everything happens that could shoot them further up into the industry and becoming untouchable.

I'm done ranting. Sorry. Moving on to happier things...now I can refocus on the analysis in my head.

 

I too believe this is one big hoax because if you look at all the so-called news:

1. All seem to quote one another (to the extent of using the same words and phrases -- this is either lazy reporting or recycling of one single original "source".

2. No credible sources were given ("according to a source", "according to an insider", "according to an alert from SARFT" <- where? SARFT directions usually come in proper memos accompanied by its logo if I remember correctly).

3. The "reason" given in most of the articles for the ban was this: actors from banned web dramas cannot be used (originally, it was specifically for reality/variety programs but it evolved to total TV banning). Ok....Addicted is NOT the only banned web drama. There were so many that got pulled at the same time -- Go Princess Go, The Lost Tomb, Wuxin the Monster Killer (hey, this drama is awesome btw)... why has no other actor in one of those dramas been mentioned as being banned along? We have very popular and more established actors acting in some of the above web dramas btw (e.g. Yang Yang and Li Yifeng in The Lost Tomb). Doesn't make sense that the banning only circles around JY and ZZ but the REASON for the banning does not pertain to them alone.

4. And then finally, we have the latest so-called update/screenshot that names Addicted specifically. But even in that directive, no reason was given. It just said "Do not use the actors from banned web drama Addicted..." Because? Which government agency just throws out a directive like that with no reason given and targets specific people (who are merely just actors on the show)? When they banned the web dramas, they gave actual reasons -- Addicted had elements of non-normal sexuality themes, Wuxin has monster themes not suitable for modern society, bla bla.

5. And finally finally, all this hoo hah could actually be traced to an original source who said "someone in the know told him JY and ZZ could not be filmed together in the same variety program as directed by the authorities because of "point 3" above. This original source was posted at 1am on April 2nd in the middle of the night and subsequently deleted when fans made noise. He apologised and said he was "misled". (sorry I didn't keep track of the original source, was reading this idly then, and did not pay attention as I didn't know it would blow up like this). The next day, all the other online media was reporting the same thing, practically using the same "reason" and words.

6. Finally finally finally, this is a 3-day long weekend in China. No one could clarify anything with any official source because no one is working at SARFT. 

Of course I could be wrong and the banning is real. If so, it is not something that we can control or change at all. What I can see though is that the boys are too bright and shiny to be overlooked in the industry. This too shall pass - for them and for us.
