I dont think they have an official store in Cannes, only Paris but i am sure theres other retailers in Cannes selling their stuffs. Jiujitsu and judo - both from Japan, developed by the same person if I am not wrong? But i am not sure about the belt colours though.

If this theory is true, geez boys...you are really testing our FBI skills. I do agree why didn't ZZ just wear a simple white top for example the one he wore yesterday to the airport, it would be more comfortable for him? Why wear this!l?  :sweatingbullets: #delulumodeactivated

and the thing is he was wearing this judo-jujitsu themed shirt several times during practice then during the KR show. it must mean so much to the liitle kitten! zz is really giving me hope that his bromance with a certain whale, fox, tiger is real!

I heard this song while driving and it was a few days after "See u later" and cactus/skateboard/luggage photo and it totally like a light bulb suddenly lit inside my head.

"When you’re standing there in your underwear
And my t-shirt from the night before
With your messed up hair
And your feet still bare
Would you mind closing the bedroom door?"

DNCE - Toothbrush

*Baby you don’t have to rush
You can leave a toothbrush
At my place
At my place
We don’t need to keep it hush
You can leave a toothbrush
At my place
At my place

Stuck in a moment
Passing the tide
Each time I let you stay the night
Up in the morning
Tingle the sheets
We play the moment on repeat

When you’re standing there in your underwear
And my t-shirt from the night before
With your messed up hair
And your feet still bare
Would you mind closing the bedroom door?

Repeat *

#Cause I just, I just can’t let you go
Give me something I never know
So baby you don’t have to rush
You can leave a toothbrush
At my place
At my place

No need to question next time we meet
I know you’re coming home with me
Sweat like a sauna
Break out the ice
I know you’re gonna stay the night

When you’re standing there in your underwear
And my t-shirt from the night before
With your messed up hair
And your feet still bare
Would you mind closing the bedroom door?

Would you mind closing the bedroom door

Hello everyone. I'm back with some information my friend directed to me in regards to Addicted and the ban. I don't know whether to laugh or cry after reading this article and its replies. So I thought to share.

Spoiler

Epic Post 4: Did Censors Ban Homosexuality?

The short answer is no. The long answer is it’s complicated.

Cfensi is back with our least favorite column, the epic post aka what’s wrong with the media.   As you might have heard from CNN, Time, or a number of other media outlets, China has recently taken down a series with a homosexual pair and may have banned everything from portrayal of homosexuality to reincarnation to extra-marital affairs.  I can probably write a book of ways SARFT can improve, but this time, they really didn’t do it.

Let’s break this news down one-by-one.  First, the more serious accusation from CNN.

Chinese censors say television shows shouldn’t include story lines involving gay relationships, plus other topics that “exaggerate the dark side of society,” according to new guidelines.

The document exists, and is against everything from reincarnation to sexual liberation. However, if CNN had bothered to look up the organizations (one of which they named in the article), they’ll see that the document is by two non-state-sponsored organization with no jurisdiction over TV production.  Just because an organization has the word China in it doesn’t mean it’s official.

Now back to the beginning. The  fiasco first came when the net series Addiction 上瘾, which is pretty much a BL version of Meteor Garden, was taken down, and all the media said it was because of the homosexuality. Fun fact: Meteor Garden was also taken down for promotion of school violence, which violates article 10 of the official SARFT’s Television Content Regulation for minors.

It’s more likely the move is a part of the plan to regulate net series like other TV series and make guidelines consistent. Previously, net series did not have to go through review prior to airing.  Just last month, at least five other Internet series were taken down temporarily, and all five are available for viewing in China as of writing. Only one of the five included a LGBT pair.  Yes, I am talking about the Internet phenomenon Go Princess Go 太子妃升职记, which is about a modern male who reincarnates into a concubine of a Prince and falls for him. The series ended up cutting out all of its sex scenes (China has no rating system, so all shows are suppose to be at most PG-13 if not PG). The producer said that they made the cuts according to their own discretion before submitting it for review, which probably means they played it safe and cut anything that might be controversial.

In addition, the news articles forget to mention that Addiction promotes several things we know that SARFT is not okay with –  corruption, illicit drug use, and violence and sexual assault of minor.  The male lead used his dad’s government status to force government institutions to help him woo his beau, beat up innocent classmates for fun, kidnapped and almost raped the other male lead in the name of love,  and somehow those scenes were suppose to make him hot. I wouldn’t be surprised if the series was taken down for any of those reasons.

And it’s not that homosexuality is not allowed to air in China.  Only last year, blockbusterThe Dead End featured the male lead (Deng Chao) in a pretty intense make-out scene with another man.   In 2013, the state-owned CCTV  aired a scene featuring a homosexual pair caught (clothed) in bed in New Detective Squad. The same team later produced made-for-TV film Diving Boys 激情跳水梦, and the production team stated the film was written as a  BL without overt romances. The film also aired on CCTV.

To me, the bigger story here is that because of the ambiguity of SARFT and general lack of acceptance, several major productions have recently chose to remove homosexual relationships and add heterosexual ones  in the process of adaptation . While the changes were not fundamental in series like Nirvana in Fire, it’s a much bigger deal in dramas likely to be centered around the relationships, such as Rebirth and maybe Song of the Phoenix.  This is especially disconcerting in light of the rise of slash ships, so there’s a dichotomy of both the commercialization of fake homosexual relationships and the suppression of real ones in the TV world.  This act of self-censorship is just as problematic as actual censorship, and is actually something that’s going on instead of made up by the press.

Finally, to be fair, the Chinese media was all over this, too.  But Sina never pretended to have journalistic standards, CNN is suppose to at least have the pretense of one.

9 THOUGHTS ON “EPIC POST 4: DID CENSORS BAN HOMOSEXUALITY?

  1. dc340dba8ae9760cc45ff4d615e95cb4?s=68&d=Kevin on 04/04/2016 at 2:16 AM said:

HI idarklight, an interesting article from QQ News regarding BL:

    http://ent.qq.com/a/20160303/003030.htm

    • Thanks for the link! I’ve been reading more on BL-culture in China, and it’s great that people in China are taking note of the difference between BL fiction/drama and works that actually explore homosexuality. I used to be a big fan of shipping bromances, but I feel like nowadays bromances and BL are getting over-commercialized, and can often be setbacks to actually adavancing LGBT rights (cough,Addiction, cough).

      • dc340dba8ae9760cc45ff4d615e95cb4?s=39&d=Kevinon 04/06/2016 at 2:20 AM said:

Its no wonder the lead actors Huang JingYu (Johnny Huang), Xu Weizhou (Timmy Zhou), Lin Fengsong and Chen Wen would rather not talk about the series anymore right after this. Mentioning of lack of general acceptance and negative flaks from netizens regarding the underlying themes

  2. 49bf713220ebfe8b25439cd58958507e?s=68&d=Alice on 03/13/2016 at 5:30 PM said:

Thank you for this thoughtful, informative post. It helps a lot with understanding the situation with web series and censorship.

  3. Thanks for the in depth explanation! It is interesting because I am also one of those who blame SARFT whenever there are new drama regulations. I understand their desire to put a stop on Addicted/Heroin because it is a very negative drama with a lot of contents that we rarily see in cdramas. However, it is indeed the reality in China; the Guan Er Dai using their parents’ corruption power to make life of their classmates/entourage miserable. Sigh, this situation is a serious mess and China really needs some kind of social revolution.

    • I don’t want to sound like an apologist for SARFT, but corruption is not forbidden on TV. Neither is school violence nor rape of minors. SARFT has no clear rules, but my general feeling is that it’s only an issue when it’s done without punishment.

For example, New Detective Squad’s Case 1 included an antagonist who was modeled after the 我爸是李刚 guy. Case 3 was centered around a government contract that gave everyone impotent vaccines, and was overall tied into the political machine in town.

That said, what I think SARFT really needs is economists who can show them how counterproductive most of their guidelines are …

  4. Thanks for writing this post. I read about this brouhaha in a few English blogs (haven’t read the CNN article, though). I didn’t realize the Heroin/Addictive webseries has a few issues, as I didn’t watch it. I, too, initially thought it was because of the homosexuality plot. I do agree with you, though, it’s the self-censorship that’s concerning.

Thanks for clearing that up! I saw on weibo the screenshots of the “ban”, which didn’t seem official, but some other sites that report on chinese news said it was a SARFT regulation. Good thing it’s not real lol.

@filmlore46 I'm sorry but I do not agree with what was said about Addicted in that article.  The show/novel uses the negative accurate, most appropriate side of society to tell a story of struggles and coming of age in a world that is so oppressed.  Good is a fantasy and evil is the true reality of the world.  In this day and age we are more informed than ever through social media and the internet.  You can't sugar coat everything to hide the grim faces of reality in a communistic world.  We are smarter than that.

This is a revolution for a free world.  Following the boys journey and supporting them in every steps along the way is our way of fighting.

Thank you @aeislaeigh for all the pictures! I really wanted to bring this fan art to attention on our page... I just felt really gloomy after seeing this fan art... This really was reflected at Incheon/Beijing airports by small groups of fans. Hopefully all fans can see this fan art (pictures speak louder sometimes) and realize how actions like these can really hurt ZZ and JY..... Also for myself, I have to come clean... yeah I used to LOVE close up pictures, I used to think "heck Im so far away from them! I want to see pictures!" After seeing what really goes on... I will try to retain myself from those pics, and only follow/like camera fans that act ethical/give them space....

Hi, I don't think it has anything to do with a communist world though. I mean even in democratic countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, South Korea and India, such BL/same-sex shows are generally relegated to obscure arthouse movies (read: dark and sad ending 90% of the time)

I don't think there are BL TV series beyond Thailand, Japan, Taiwan and China for now. Please feel free to correct me as this is based on my limited knowledge.

I tend to believe that It's true that the show was banned because it contains corruption undertones. China is now fighting an anti-graft war against corrupt public officers and greedy companies. The novel is actually porn by the way. It also involved teenage sex. They had sex when they are 17...which by the way started with rape. So many had predicted that it will be taken down.

The problem I feel is that China is reluctant to have a rating system and hence it limits what Chinese can produce. But I also believe few Asian countries will allow such content on be on free to air web TV without some changes to the script, age limits and parental controls too.

But I agree with you that there is a revolution around the world with regards to love and marriage. The Pope just said that Christians and Catholics should apologise to gays for example. Japan and Taiwan are leading the way in terms of gay rights.  I also agree with you that it is unjust that JY and ZZ are banned from appearing in shows... They are such great nice people.

I suspect that Chinese are very flexible people. In time, they will relaxed the ban against the two of them especially when they see them as assets rather than problems. Now that ZZ performed the two banned songs in Korea, I am waiting to see what would happen next....hoping for the better...

Not much news on ZY today yeah? That's great! They deserve a break after working so hard :) Interestingly, they aren't in the same city now...

i hope by not beeing seen in public today, jy and zz are having a secret rendevouz somewhere where there are no prying eyes, where they can be themselves and with no inhibitions!

Found a new candy on YuZhou Chinese thread; according to this OP, the shirt ZZ wore during Thai dance practice and during Seoul rehearsal concert is particular. From a French brand, Andrew Crews, it has a Judo belt attached on, the belt is the same used in Jiu-Jitsu. [doge]

But ZhouZhou wore this particular T-shirt even during Walk Slowly encore. Why he should wear this T-shirt with such a uncomfortable item during practice and during that particular song. Probably he wanted a certain someone was close to his heart.

It's probably given by certain someone...wDw0F6x.gifwDw0F6x.gifwDw0F6x.gif

At first I didn't really understand the fanart about the green belt by 呼呼花- Now I get it.. And Zhouzhou only wore it during his rehearsal or concert right... Hmm... #deluludelulu

I thought that emoticon refers to ZZ and the other one, the dark brown one, is JY. No?

wDw0F6x.gif = alternate text for this is "doge" = Johnny

4U5O37P.gif = alternate text for this is "喵喵/meow meow" = Zhouzhou

I conclude this after reading a lot of cryptic emoji status from CPF weibo that appeared especially after the 2nd ban... Other than that Zhouzhou also used this emoji in his Weibo. Other than that [2], CPF weibo posts about these two would always be in this order wDw0F6x.gif4U5O37P.gif. Yellow head first, brown head 2nd = YuZhou :phew:

Sorry took so long to reply to your question. I'm backtracking everything before the concert...

that's strange, I have received my order almost 3 weeks back. However my regular copy got stuck in the warehouse, and when I requested for a refund, they only refunded the delivery charges (RMB32) to my Alipay account - which I have no way of transferring back to my Malaysian account unless I have an account with any bank in China. I cba to argue more with them so I left it at that.

Hope all is well, ask them to refund to Paypal or something instead of Alipay! Sorry I wasn't able to reply much earlier.

Spoiler

Yea it's strange af. When I wanted to do a refund, the page said that the period of refunding in 15 days are already over. So frustrating.. I told her a friend from Malaysia already received her order so can you try to help, like instead of stating you're posting a CD, say that you're posting something else.. Then she didn't reply my message..... So I decided to use Yoybuy service to forward our parcel to Malaysia.. My friend and I wanna faint from the estimated shipping fee.. *sigh* What to do.. At least now she replied that she'd sent to the Yoybuy China address.... I'd never buy anything from Taobao anymore.. Even my Shangyin photobook from Yesasia already arrived... Thanks for the reply though!

Covernment of China gets hot feet that now this news is coming out.

There trying to save there face to other countries because the didn't realized that the serie outside of China so populair is not only in China.

Timmy has made a important move to sing these 2 songs in Korea that's the reason that i'm so proud of him that he was so brave to sing the 2 songs.

I would not be surprised that the hole cast including Johnny, Timmy and CJD somewere sitting around the table and discussing the next move.

Oooh, I am so happy ZZ will have live stream with L'Officiel. Someone here said that this is a high profile fashion magazine in China, right? Yet too bad I can't watch the live stream :'( hopefully someone can upload it (and maybe subbed? *kitten eyes full force toward @gashupingo hahaha. Sorry for being so greedy xD).

Btw, DwSS trying to ship JY-LL is only recently, right? I think that's because there are lots of questions about JY/LL from fan girls (who, ironically, might ask the questions to make sure that there are nothing happening between JY and LL, lol). But yeah, actually JY is more on bromanceship with Ethan. Curious that Ethan is getting along with JY because I thought he would be jealous or threathened by JY's fans and JY stealing the spotlight of DwSS from him.

Hoping JY will go back to Beijing tomorrow! What is he doing today in Shanghai anyway?
