Kim Hyun Joong and his ex-girlfriend Miss Choi have now undergone DNA tests to determine the paternity of Miss Choi’s son.

Both Kim Hyun Joong and Miss Choi went to Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno, Seoul on December 14, with Miss Choi bringing the child with her. The Seoul Family Court had ordered the DNA tests to be completed in relation to Miss Choi’s paternity suit against Kim Hyun Joong, which she filed in September. If either Kim Hyun Joong or Miss Choi had not undergone the tests, they would have been fined up to 10 million won (approximately $8,400).

Kim Hyun Joong had previously offered to have a paternity test completed through a private company, but Miss Choi rejected his offer due to concerns about the validity of the test.

Kim Hyun Joong’s lawyer Lee Jae Man has stated, “We had hoped that the DNA test would be taken confidentially, however Miss Choi has announced the location and date. This is unfortunate.” He adds, “[The paternity of the child] must be known before my client takes responsibility as the father of the child. This is what he wanted. If the results say he is the father, he will of course take responsibility. If he is not the father, she will have to take responsibility.”

Miss Choi’s lawyer Sun Jong Moon says, “We hope that the truth will come to light and that Kim Hyun Joong will take his position as the father.” He adds, “We are 100% sure [that the test results will show Kim Hyun Joong is the father].”

Kim Hyun Joong is reported to have taken a leave from the army to complete the test, and has now returned to his station in Paju. It is expected that the paternity test results will be available in one to two weeks.
