Another random thought. ..

No matter how I look at it, its hard to believe any of the 4 guys would become a player/playboy nor do I believe DS would agree to marry a player.  Becos the long list of girls hubby dated before they're married, & that would take up a whole night to list down wud imply hubby was a player.  Dated a few girls before married is common but with a longgggg list of girls is a different story. 

I cant imagine the compassionate SW becoming a player.  He understands women the most especially after seeing his mom hardship. Now after being with BR, even if they have problems I don't see him as the kind that find solace in another woman.

Then there's JH. Despite his brusque & harsh nature, he is sensitive to people's feeling  especially those around him, and would do his best to accommodate them. See how he never once mock DS abt SW even when he knows she was rejected by him, so I don't see him playing around with women's feeling. I believe he's the type that wud enter a long term relationships before he gets married. 

And of cos we have DR who is the possible to become a player if he can overcome his fear for real life women . However up until Taek's confession he still doesn't have feelings for DS, so from then on there's no way he wud develope feeling for DS other than brotherhood.

So that leaves us with Taek...but Taek, grow up to be a player? You've got to be kidding me!!!" The 4D, shy, reserved who doesn't communicate well with people outside his circle, becomes a player within a couple or so years? Hmmmm..rather than becoming a player once hurt he most likely shove himself back into his shell, & shut himself out in his baduk games. Unless of cos the long list of girls he dated before marriage is just a way for DS to provoke her husband into a fight but hubby understand her so well he didn't take bait but just changed the subject instead. Why he didn't even bother to deny because he knows she knows the list she mentioned was just his female fans. Perhaps some more aggressive & obsessive than others who would go out of their way pursuing Taek, & that really pissed DS off.

Also I cant relate a man who has a lot of experience with women gets all petty & cranky becos his wife has a crush at boy beside him during high school, over 20 years ago, so again this imply hubby doesn't have much experience with other women, most probably DS is the only woman in his life, that's why he got all jealous because of the chocolate since he just realised he's not her first love/crush! So if my theory is right,  that would make Taek as the husband..and I still believe the husband only know abt wifey's teenage crush very recently aka around the time the 2015 interview take place

I think it's that junghwan made a move first but ultimately that taek even when getting the information wrong/last he still got pick. Also he bought pink gloves to his two most important people.

I am so exciting to see teak adult. Actually, I like him with seriously face like China trip and smoking scenes. I sure teak on 5 years late will be very attractive, and able to taking care for DS.

I actually really want to see this though. Like Taek keeps surprising me with each ep- the smoking, the cursing, the porn... etc. We already get a hint when he says that he's close to the female reporter when his dad was being interviewed. She's like the freaking president of his fan club. Deok Sun's friends keep asking to see Taek too. Which leads me to think that Taek is somewhat surprisingly popular amongst women. I think that when future DS and hubby argue about the past women in his life, it doesn't necessarily mean he dated them- just that there were a lot around him / a lot that liked him. Like idk why but I want Taek to be a heartbreaker in his own right hahahhahaa. 

Alsooooo, I really need to see Taek going to a concert. I feel it's also one of the clues from the future that needs to be addressed. Bc future hubby argue with DS about whether they went to go watch a concert or show or something like that together and DS snarks that he probably went with another girl lol. I think it's really cute how he's paying attention to music and listening to the things DS likes  like when everyone on the car was shocked that he knew Lee Moon Se's song.

And can we talk about Deoksun-Taek for a long moment? Now that our homegirl's chasing down JH with the same determination she had for Sunwoo, it's like Taek's the last frontier. Only in scenes with him (and Dongryung) is Deok Sun still our funny, capable, quirky Deok Sun.

It's so important that Deok Sun as a character shines at her brightest whenever she's with Taek. We all loved her capable side in China. But look at this latest episode. Taek was the one with her at a moment that was both a high and a low-- he witnessed her bravery and sass, comforted her when she broke down, and protected her in a moment she could have been truly scared & alone (notice she was too embarrassed to tell anyone else about her flasher encounter). I actually love that he didn't cover her eyes or punch the flasher like a typical kdrama alpha-male, because it is through this scene that I remembered why I love DS so much as an individual as well.

And this is why I ship Deok Sun and Taek. A potential romance would not *define* who they are as individuals. Their interactions bring out interesting sides of their personalities, and they have such a natural unbreakable bond that is beyond misunderstandings, beyond secrets, and beyond petty conflict. Notice how Deok Sun never yelled at Taek for smoking, and how after China he doesn't even hide this habit from her (even though you can argue that he'd want to "show his best side" to the girl he likes). Notice how Deok Sun didn't carry her anger over to the next episode after Taek gave her that double nosebleed (LOL). Notice how she can cry in front of him, and how Taek readily tells her there's no shame in crying. Their connection runs so deep it's like a second skin, a second nature to them both.

Ok with this post, I have been convinced and am fully on board the Taektonic.  I was always Team Deok Sun and still am.  I enjoy watching all the family aspects of the show.  I didn't want to get sucked into the romance ships, especially when the other team folks scared me with their aggression.  Thus, I posted some thoughs on this thread that seemed more open to discussion.  

But in reading this BEAUTIFUL post, I realized that I had been probably team Taek all along because Deok Sun shines in her full glory when she is with Taek.  Yes, she is juvenile at times, but weren't we all at 18?  But she is strong and capable, full of joy and energy.  She gets scared too.  She is ruthless when she wants to be.  We want her to be with someone who appreciates all that and encourages her in all that, with action and in words.  Other guys probably accept her too, but doesn't recognize her care and attention in view of what they see her "main" characteristic as being the jolly fool.  

I think Taek probably was fond of Deok Sun from the moment she reached out to him with her hands, and even carried him, not unlike SW's mom who shook his hand and hugged him.  He needed that touch after losing his mom.  But we saw from flashbacks, that he looked at her.  Taek's fondness grew to care as he realized that there are girls and then there are girls, the moment you start thinking of the opposite sex in a different way.  He didn't want her to change but instead wanted her to grow in her own way.  

Like Doek Sun's dad, I think Taek is smarter about the world than people think.  Like Deok Sun's dad, Taek lends out money to friends/colleagues because he is compassionate and not that he is a fool.  I think it is funny that Deok Sun's job is finding frauds yet he can't help but be defrauded.  In the same way, I think Taek knows what is happening around him but he just (1) chooses not to pay attention or (2) his kindness deters him from saying anything that may cause a ruckus.  Instead, Taek chooses to be alone, except with Deok Sun.      

Sorry I am kind of rambling but too many thoughts rushing through my head.  One last thought, I thought too Deok Sun's expression of confusion was odd when Taek rested against her.  Did she realize Taek likes her?  I do think Deok Sun gets influenced by who likes her or who her friends say likes her.  I don't think that is shallow at that age.  It is hard to figure out your feelings then.

@jayx143 @lxands reading your post guys makes me wonder how DS reaction about this? Girls..Fans...women follow him.. I can't imagine how she will be really pissed off.. so I think the point made that the person you choice is the person you find out how they feel is true. ( again ds found out that Jh liked her... Jh found out Tk liked Ds)

now tk still didnt find out about Ds in the last ep when it was expected, however that makes sense because he was late in "checking" his pick...so i expect by ep 14 for him to know 

ok so now tk also calls Ds on her yellow phone with his green phone ( gotta bring the color theory in ) and they have a miscommunication, which i think symbolizes the mess of the triangle

but now tk giving the same glove to his dad I think serves a more logical purpose, the writer had to build in a way for the viewers to know which person gave what,

and I do think Ds liked Jh gift,  because it symbolized the feelings she always got from her romance novel, of having someone crush on you , of what sw didnt become for her.

but in the end she choose Tk gift, the person she guessed first had her, that means their bond will always bring them back together, idk i just got the sense that she was waiting for him the ep, knowing it is him, 

or everyone Dr color is pink and she chooses him at the end LOL

JH also says Taek is popular with the girls so why would he like the ugly Deok Sun or something to that effect.  I think unlike the West, Koreans like super intelligent people, and baduk players are considered brilliant.  Thus, I am sure he is popular with girls.  

I do think we have to be careful with future couple's clues.  They were used to tip people in the wrong direction in prior series.

Because honestly if we were to compare Taek and Junghwan, Junghwan is actually the shy one. Especially around girls. Look at how uncomfortable he got with Deoksun's friends around. haha. While for Taek rather than shy, I think he is just more reserved and restrained towards people he is not close with. He is guarded but he is not necessarily shy towards them. In fact he is more exposed to girls than Junghwan. The only girl Junghwan knows and is close to is Deoksun. While for Taek, he has those Baduk girls or the reporter he was supposedly close with. Taek also travels a lot so surely he has met plenty people out there that of course include girls. He is definitely popular seeing as how he even has a fanclub. Wow Choi Taek, impressive!

To further prove my point, note how in the beginning Junghwan is shown to barely greet the neighbourhood ahjummas by just a simple nod of the head? I think that shows much of his shy personality. Some might see it as him being indifferent(aka what most go through during puberty) but I actually see it as him being shy based on his expression. While Taek has no problems greeting people and he does it quite cheerfully as well though of course not as enthusiastic as Sunwoo who is pretty much the town's best friend. haha XD

So yeah for this, it does point out towards Taek more.

However, we don't know for sure whether Junghwan might have a change of character and becomes more open once he is in college or something and started getting attention from girls. Probably or probably not. We'll have to see. haha. Just my thoughts.

Honestly if taek is in the game,the writer need to hurry up and show more build ups on  taek-ds,jh already had some level of memories with ds,but taek has not even confessed yet that he likes deok sun right..=/.Are eight episodes enough for the rise of a new relationship?

Not going to comment on whether or not I think it is possible, but for CB / Na Jung I held through believing until the very last episode... at which I cried my heart out hahahha. Good times.

I thought JH's gift is a glove and Taek's is a mitten? As far as I remember DS actually wanted a glove, so JH got her the right present. But DS still chose Taek's gift instead.

@gerimisore   Oh right I got that part wrong,sorry lol ,you are right.About eight episode span,then again what @mangachickava said also could be logical,in regards that each episode is almost length of a film.Though they cover lots of character and their updates per episode,so whatever we get from tk-ds,should be concerning the love line lol.I'm not even counting jh here because after his realization,most of the episodes have shown him in a softer gloomier light,when he's pining over or looking at deok sun's way.So,what happens with taek is matter of question now .I think the preview is a troll,and the run of the neighbors is not concerned with taek at all,because I see deok sun at the left end on the picture,and she does not look bothered .If taek went missing she should look a wee bit upset right.

@jayx143 I've not watched reply'94 live,saved me lots of heartaches then I guess? Drama withdrawal syndromes are bad but what's worse is a bad ending,it haunts you for months and sometimes you never get over it ,[school 2015,producers come to mind =/].I hope we have a good time at least this time around and whoever is the second lead does not have as bad a situation as chilbong.

Kind of (or trying to stay) a neutral shipper, but definitely here for the Taek appreciation. You've both so eloquently expressed what makes his character so endearing to all of us.

Another nice quality of Taek's is being so earnest and forthright in manner, in contrast to JH's. I don't think he knew about JH's crush during the confession scene and perhaps even now, but he had looked pointedly at JH while confessing because JH had said that Taek would have to be crazy to like DS. Taek seemed somewhat offended by JH's insinuation that DS wasn't worth liking, and so was quick to declare that he did, indeed, like her even with all those girls to choose from. So JH's adamant denial did him in, lol. Taek may not have confessed so quickly and surely had tsundere JH kept his mouth shut

The plot trajectory, screen emphasis, and Reply series' history of winning leads makes me wary of getting in too deeply, but I have to commend the writer's introduction and characterization of Taek. Like many of you, I think he's a rather unique and layered character in k-dramaland. Initially I had felt confused about his function within the plot and neighborhood dynamic given his quiet presence and the two main leads seeming to be JH and SW. He doesn't easily fall into any of k-drama's stereotypical roles (second lead, lead's best friend/confidante, jokester [already taken by DR]), yet his presence has been steadily growing as he takes on elements from these various roles (competing for main female's heart, showing heartwarming friendship with JH, giving rise to comedic scenes like the cursing lessons)--all while having a life and problems outside of the friendship/neighborhood bubble. Best of all, this development all feels so organic and true-to-character.

I haven't yet seen R1994 and now I may never watch it. Based on what some of you have said on this thread, I really hope no character ever gets Chilbonged. It's surprising that Reply writers in all their skill would write such a character, who seems to serve little purpose other than to increase ratings through shipping wars. In R1997, they also seemed to pair Taewoong with SW just to create narrative conflict and maintain the husband hunt until the very end for viewership interest. Given their original intent to have "no husband hunt," I have to wonder if Taek's character is as well-crafted as it is because they hadn't planned to give him a loveline? His story arc would then need to shine on its own...and it has, wonderfully so. Now that they've added him as a husband candidate, his character feels all the more three-dimensional.

Reply 1988 is such a gem of a show that I hope the writers will do well by Taek and the resolution of his feelings. Whether he gets the girl or not, I hope he develops even more as an individual. It's common for a teenager to fall in love with the same girl as his close friend, and it's common for angst and heartbreak to ensue, but it's also common that people grow up through it all. I don't want to see him in pain, but puppy Taek has shown us that he's much stronger inside than he appears. Someone here theorized that Taek may be the next to discover DS's feelings according to the manitto game sequence, and that may well be the case. As much as his feelings provide narrative conflict to JH's love and the opportunity for growth (JH will have to learn to come to terms with his feelings and internal struggles; DS may have to differentiate between close friendship and love), I hope they also serve as the catalyst for Taek's own maturation. Seeing Taek grow in some years' time into a happy confident adult able to both give and receive love through caring for others and with the same good qualities as @syaiira has noted may be the best treatment of this lovable character, IMHO. Writers, don't hurt him too much along the way. No typical second lead ending, please. (And if he somehow ends up with DS, even better :D)

P.S. Anyone else still in love with the beach scene? Such a beautifully-shot and -executed candid expression of youthful fun, friendship, and chemistry... One more scene like this and I might just go down with the Taektanic with no regrets, lol~

@nearsea I think the important thing is just to try and enjoy the drama regardless of who you ship. ^^ R1988 has SOOOOOO many other good points other than just shipping the couples. Also, I feel R1988 has more focus on other characters and thats GOOD! It doesn't make the story only the romance, which would make it like every other romcom story out there.

R1994 isn't bad, but they trolled a lot more than in this one haha. It's also a little draggy at times.

And seriously OMG School 2015 was freaking traumatic for me LOL. And Producer (IU <33333) sighhhhhh.... 2015 was a bad year for me ahhahaha.
