Friendship and the Art of Being a Noble Idiot

This is quite an old topic, but I was re-watching the series, hence. We all know how deeply Taek feels for DS. For him to give up his first and arguably only love because of JH must have been of great contemplation and agony. After he noticed JH’s infatuated eyes in ep15, he went on to ask DS out anyway. Even after he saw the photo in JH’s wallet, he went on to win the competition anyway. I think he must have struggled a great deal, before finally deciding to give up when he called DS.

While TW and YJ were brothers in AM1997, JH and Taek were just friends. This meant that their friendship was akin to brotherhood. Here’s a quick tribute to these two guys who caused mayhem in fandom. *Cue Park Boram’s Hyehwa-dong*

While both JH and Taek retreated in the name of noble idiocy, there is a notably difference between the two: Taek planned to confess while JH was hesitant.

Taek had clear plans on when and how he would confess to DS. He wasn’t satisfied with a one-sided love. He first asked DS out for a movie but fell asleep in the end. Then, he won the Fujitsu and gave DS the winning trophy. Lastly, he planned to win his last competition and confess during a movie date.

There was a clear progression in his advancement. Heck, he even found his way to Jongro to buy the movie tickets one week in advance.

JH, on the other hand, had plenty of time to confess but he didn’t and possibly wasn’t planning on confessing too. He was the only one who knew DS was rejected by SW in ep 6, and subsequently, even went on a concert date with DS. But there was no indication whatsoever of an impending confession.

Which made me wonder if JH’s retreat was truly an act of noble idiocy? Were the feelings he harboured for DS true love, or was it a crush that stemmed from physical intimacy in the back alley? Even if Taek hadn’t come into the picture, would JH ever confess?

Well, JH did confess eventually in ep 18, but it rose from a need for closure. If he hadn't done so, Taek, DS and himself would forever be stuck in this love triangle.

This shows how popular PBG is with the Reply 88 since it put his name on the top of cf charts..so do we still have to argue on who's the main male lead in r88? Trust me the people who updated the Wikipedia is JH's bias. Just check out the script reading clip...it was PBG who sat next to PD Shin. RJY sat 3 after GKP. During script the lead actor & actress usually sit closest to PD & writernim, so in this case isnt it obvious from the beginning PBG is the first leading actor, followed by GKP & RJY as 2nd & 3rd lead actor respectively.

For me, there is no point to fight about who loves DS longer and deeper... the answer should be who is the person that DS loves more and choose to be together, for the rest of her life. 

In Reply 1994, I failed to connect with NJ. That's why even though I knew that she loves Trash, but I'm rooting for CB.. hoping that miracle could happen and hardwork will be paid off. So, I ended up as CB supporter and ignored the narration.

Here, I think that I could understand DS. So I want what she wants, what's the best for her. As at now, I can see that TK is the best person for her. They're soulmates. He knew about her insecurities and how to deal with it without hurting her pride. 

It's not about who win the battle.. so chills everyone.. enjoy watching the series... because there are lot more important things than husband hunt.

Of course I know not everyone is bad! I love all of my roomies here in Taek's room! I adore each and every one of you and will miss you all once R88 is over.

It's a real shame what happens here on soompi though. It's not the quieter and more considerate ones who matter, but the ones who push and scream. I used to be on a bunch of forums and nothing like this has ever happened before. I think my feelings are just too easily hurt. It's not good for me to be around such negativity, but after I see it, I can't stop going back in hopes someone will call them out on it. Since I've now seen how cruel people on here can be (and those people are always, without fail, the loudest and most aggressive) I don't think I can come back to soompi again  The things some of them say are absolutely horrible! Do they feel no shame? We should pray for their poor twisted souls. There's no need to be so mean over something that's supposed to be fun. These are FICTIONAL CHARACTERS for goodness sake!

Hi again! It's so sad that the end is almost here, I'm going to miss all the characters. 

I saw what happened in the main thread, which is kinda sad. I've wanted to post in Junghwan and Deoksun's thread but went against it since they don't seem to like analysis of the characters or their actions. 

Anyway, I finished rewatching the last two episode again . LOL. I think everyone that discredits the clues and hints along the way will be extremely disappointed and everyone that follows it will be surprised.  What I remember from watching the 1994 and 1997 series, is that this pd is extremely smart and he will throw everything at you to make you second guess yourself. If he thinks a clue/motifs/picture/gift is important, he will use that against you. LOL. Be warned!

I want to say that I love Junghwan but after rewatching all the episodes I think its best that he lets Deoksun go. I feel that at this stage Deoksun and Taek has somewhat moved on but Junghwan is still stuck. He's still thinking about those what if chances that he missed out on, comforting her when she was crying on the steps, not reciprocating her feelings when she wanted him to, etc. He was not the only one hurting, Taek was also put in the same difficult situation and finally, Deoksun, she waited and waited for him until she couldn't anymore. I think we all know that she is the type that needs love and reassurance that she is special. I'm starting to feel that Junghwan can't give her that anymore.

I understand that bickering can lead to love ala all other kdramas but Deoksun doesn't operate that way. For example,  her relationship with Bora, they are sisters and obviously love one another, but Deoksun always feels inferior to her because Bora hardly shows the love that she wants as a sister. Junghwan and Deoksun's relationship is similar in a way. Junghwan thinks that by arguing with her and at times ignoring her will push her to respond to him. Deoksun on the other hand,  thinks differently, her wants and needs don't follow the same wave length. By no means am I saying that he's not the husband, the writer can still select Junghwan at the end. LOL.

Taek on the other hand is just so damn compelling and moving. I swear it's those eyes of his! Ha! I feel that because he grew up with a single father that didn't show too much feelings  and was so even keel, Deoksun was his barometer. That is what is so fascinating about her and him together, he feels what she feels and always wants and think of her. Got banana,  let me get one for Deoksun first. Who else thinks like that! The feels. LOL.

Before I leave again, what do you guys think of Junghwan's journal entry that his parents read. The on entry that sticks out was the soccer game. Junghwan scored 2 goals by himself,  Deoksun and uri Taekie scored 1 goal, Sunwoo and Dongrong both got 0. At first I that it was just a random entry but there's meaning in everything for this Pd.

Heh heh heh... Just stay away from threads such as those. There are far more intelligent beings elsewhere on the forum. Just not on that particular thread. That makes me feel even worse for them! It's not healthy to repress your feelings! I'm just so glad that our shipmates are all so sweet. Seriously I've never seen anyone here bad mouth any other shippers or characters, not even those of the opposing ship (I know for a fact that a bunch of us adore JH tons and tons.) Two thumbs up and a pat on the back for us.....and cookies because who doesn't like cookies XP

Also, unrelated to mean posters but still related to me leaving soompi, being on this forum totally messes with my sleeping patterns! XP I think most of you are in a different time zone than I am! I should probably be asleep right now, but I can't help checking on our forum to see if our lovely roommates have any new observations and whatnot.

BTW, I really need the flashback how Taek get to concert venue.. Taek and JH were kind of having same start line(from their alley) but Taek arrived at the concert venue only few seconds before JH. I believe, because ep. 18 is dedicated for JH's closure, that's why we are the viewers shown all about JH's , his hesitation, his frustration against the traffic lights and at the end only to see Taek running to DS. It breaks my heart, anyway.

Let's imagine Taek's POV. I believe, Taek moves so much earlier than JH. I sense that he keeps thinking about DS is alone to the concert venue with thin clothes and slipper. Taek's washroom scene is when he gathers his guts to forfeit his match and it happens as early as he arrived at his match venue. He goes to the match venue just to apologize to forfeiting the match (Baduk etiquette) , then he goes crazily to DS. But why it takes him to get there almost 2 hours just like JH? I think he got LOST so many times to the concert event, PLUS, he don't know how to park!! I really want to see how frustrated Taek to get there, how many barriers that he has to overcome.. That's why when he come to see DS at the concert.. he's so breathless and feels so relieve to meet DS.. and it almost 1% possibility like Bora said.. It just happen. Even, DS can't believe her eyes, Taek is standing in front of her. She Asked him, "How DID YOu KNOW to come here?" DS knows that It's kind of impossible for Taek to get there. She must know how Taek struggles to get there. DS~aah.. Can you still think TAEK 'is only childhood friend now?

 

And, what do you think about this? DS's new apartment?

i wonder why pm3 get deleted in mt.even if it got reported but isn't to be be fair the mod should read first what the content that being reported...they can maybe deleted the part they dislike but not the whole post since it mostly talk about the scenes

edit: i don't saw she write much bad word but mostly smart analysis but well maybe the way she say can be little nicer but that just her personality and for some people even if you say nice thing they will still bite back with spite for no good reason so i think someone like pm3 maybe with her sarcastic & snarky personality is best to deal with those kind of rude people who refuse to think out of the box.such a shame
