I totally agree here. When I first found out this director was attached to the drama I was excited because I felt the cinematography would be very beautiful. There were some gorgeous shots in That Winter, the Wind Blows of trees and snow as well as the 2 leads. I swear Song Hye Ko and Jo In Sung never looked so good- some of the shots of them just took my breath away. So, I knew we could get some really beautiful scenes here and that the actors would all look gorgeous. And we have gotten some fantasic shots- the eclipse scene, the ritual scene in ep 2, the iconic rain scene was also masterfully done, to name a few. However, the director's penchant for extreme close-ups has hurt him here. There are way too many- if he had cut back and used them more judiciously, it would have been fine. You're right that not every actor can express emotions with slight movements in face and eyes. That takes a special skill and also acting experience. Much of this cast, including the leading lady, is new to acting and doesn't have skill set built up to handle the close-up method. It just magnifies the acting weaknesses and can take me right out of the scene. Also, sometime the closeups weren't appropriate to the scene. Case in point- WS and HS at the beach. Those scenes would have been much better taken as medium or long shots were we can see the beach. The overuse of closeups also lessens their impact as time goes on. It fits the narrative much better in my opinion when these closeups are used more sparingly, so that they have real impact. One of the best uses of the extreme closeups was the WS bath scene in ep. 2. LJK acting skill really shone there and the scene was very powerful due to use of closeup. Plus, he may have had a scar but I don't think LJK has ever looked so good as in that scene-his physical beauty there really blew me away.

"Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" episode 13 kept aficionados anxious as the fight for the throne among the princes continued with their father king gradually dying. With the upcoming episode 14 and 15, fans should expect seeing more of the battle as well as more on Hae Soo (IU) and Wang So (Lee Joon Gi).

 

Eighth Prince Wang Wook (Kang Ha Neul) already indicated his desires and eventually cut ties with Soo. A central question has been whether or not Soo will give So a chance. Based on "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" episode 14 preview, this is very likely.

In next week's episodes, Soo will no longer hide her feelings for So. The former could not fully accept the fourth Prince's sincerity before because she was blindly hanging on to Wook's promises. With Wook's greed and ambition evident now more than ever, Soo has come to the realization and she will finally accept So's heart.

Besides the two going on lovely dates, Soo will eventually wear So's hairpin gift. Fans will be excited to see the development in the romance sphere, especially with Soo initiating a kiss. It is expected that So will as well say the magic words.

Although Soo/So ship is already sailing, things are not right in the royal family. Just Soo, So and a few more are still loyal to the former Crown Prince Wang Mu (Kim San Ho) who is currently the King. However, with the king's longtime sickness and worsening health, So and his crew will have a difficult task of protecting his brother king and the much-admired seat.

Fans will be excited to learn in "Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo" episode 14 that third Prince Wang Yo (Hong Jong Hyun) did not die. He survived the fall and he will return to take his vengeance on the people who frustrated his plans to claim the throne, including Wook.

Based on Yo's transformed appearance in episode 14 teaser, avid fans should expect another time jump next week. In case this happens, all aspirants for the throne will possibly have determined and fortified their respective groups. As a result, there will be a longer, bloodier revolt.

Today i read all about goryeo thks to.SBS give a good k drama makes people for other country like me.interested with your beautiful countryside and costume.

With SFD..i read n google about joseon dynasty until one stage i remember all the king when come to MLSHR...i google about goryeo dynasty..how they come to an end ..and how at a point they dont have any prince to become king annymore...and they hv to find baek ah son ..( illegal son of him with wang wook daughter that marry to WS son  from they most of the king come from his side. They hv drama about this..( i read somewhere in tumbler)

History is interesting ..an actor who become the spoke person like.Ah in for Bang Won ..and..WS.by joon gi make.it more wonderful how.they interpreted the character...very interesting...and i couldnt sleep thinkingand  reading of goryeo n joseon. Hope one day i can visit your country be in the palace  that bang woon build .....

i know the scar means so much more than a scar in his face, it's a representation of the scar on his heart. that's the point of the whole scene.

i agree on the meaning of the scene if you look at it on that perspective. but a scene means a lot of things it just depends on the angle you're looking at. and i was looking at it as it is.

WHAT!??? No episode on Monday on South Korea (SBS) for 3 weeks!?  Hope this won't happen because the international version will be still airing as usual. That means that the ending of the drama will already be on internet weeks before the airing of the last episode in South Korea. This is too bad. Remember when SBS wasn't planning to respect the official date for simultaneous broadcast for Moon Lovers's first episode? That date (August 29th) that was released with months of anticipation and shared by all the other broadcasters?  They said just few days before that they can't confirm that...but at the end thanks God they decided to aired as it was originally stipulated. Since day one they treated the drama as if it was one that only airs in south korea and not preproduced at all.

@bebebisous33 thanks for the post on Candide.......it was certainly a different way of viewing Hae Su for me....which is much more positive and I will strive to think of her past actions in such a light because otherwise in my mind HS is being understood not in such a positive light.

I am a moderately emotional person and can be a little skeptical at times so HS obviously puzzled quite a bit I came to care for her well being and like everyone else didn't want her to suffer needlessly, yet she experienced just that. After seeing her for 13 episodes and specifically spending so much time on her love life I came to the conclusion that in case of romance she probably belonged to the likes of those who stay in bad marriages or have bad relationships. There are a lot of women  who after they fall in love with unreliable characters tend to stay with them putting up with emotional blackmailing, manipulation, and  also physical abuse. Some stay because they have no alternative but a lot of them may be aware of the problem yet tend to stay in such relations through some faulty notion of love, of security. After the Wook- Su confrontation of ep 13 I was thinking that HS may have such borderline tendencies and that is the reason she is having such a hard time letting go of Wook. It is only the fact that her "no casualty" mentality couldn't bear the thought of potentially being the instrument of yet another death (Wang So, who she has rescued time and again in various ways) and also couldn't handle the implication that Wook may potentially become a usurper and murderer (that too of his own family) that finally made her snap out. I thought it was quite ironic that the moment Wook becomes honest with her and lays bare his ambitions she is shocked into retreat. If not, I would have thought that if Wook had gone on treating her shabbily without doing anyone else any harm HS would have permanently held out hope for him and been in love with him.

Guys if the above sounds too harsh its not to be read that way because it is not a judgement on HS merely how i felt her motivations to be.

 

@40somethingahjumma I don't think that we can consider Hae Soo's behaviour as someone who has experienced an abusive relationship before and that would be her reason that she stayed with Wook for so long. No, in my opinion Hae Soo has never seen Wang Wook for whom he was. She was totally blind, just like Candide. Her former boyfriend was just like Wang Wook in my opinion, well-mannered and good looking who promised her many things. Notice her cellphone picture: she is with her boyfriend smiling and in that moment, she sees him with her friend cheating on her. So the picture is fake in the end, it is just an illusion and the reality is that he is not faithful at all. In my opinion, Hae Soo has never paid attention to details, just like with Wang Wook. She forgets that he was cold and distant towards her for a while (episode 4) after realising that he had fallen for her. She also doesn't remember that his words and his look in the library were not nice. Finally he promised her many things but he never made it come true. 

Since Hae Soo is someone who is concerned a lot about the future, promises sounded and sound good to her. She accepts these kind of promises because promises are always future-oriented. Therefore she never paid and pays attention to his present actions. Like Taejo told her, she should focus more on the present and on what she has than the future. This also explains why she got conned by her ex-boyfriend with the debts. It was again about the future. He might have promised again something. Her mistakes are that

- she is too optimistic and only wants to see the best in people;

- she thinks too much about the future so that she neglects the present. As results, she is blind to notice the actions of her friends around her. Since she is too future-oriented, she hates changes because she has already planned in her head what her future would look like.

Maybe that's the reason why she had these visions! She is always anticipating the future (she paints in her head how it would be), but this time, it is different. She has no control over the future. These visions are not a dream, but reality!! These visions might be there to force her to change her way of thinking, not to be afraid of the future and changes (both are related), but to enjoy the present and accept the future as it will come. As conclusion, she should face the present and reality and less dream about the future! 

The other reason why she was loyal to Wang Wook was because she takes her "vows" very seriously. Even when she had been disappointed by Wang Wook, she thought, she had to stay by his side, since she promised it too. She took her promise very seriously which underlines the contrast between her and Wang Wook. When Hae Soo promises something, she will do anything to keep her promise. On the other hand, she promised Wang So that she would never change and trust him, but later she actually said the exact opposite of what she had promised. In the episode 12, she is so disenchanted that she mentioned Wang Wook in the past (she had someone else in her heart) that her love for him has changed, yet she doesn't accept the change, she wants to make sure that she won't change as she hates change hence she keeps being loyal to him... until she has to promise to the king, she will help him. Then she is put in front of an alternative. She has to chose the side.

EDITED: I was confusing the scenes xD You said episode one so that means you are referring to the princes and not the one of Wang So-Hae Soo. They released a brief moment of that BTS on Naver.
