I don't think paparazzi Baek Ah was there. The paintings in the museum are really weird for me, some feel like Hae Soo's point of view and others not. The first painting she saw was from the last part of episode 2 where Wang So did his dancing in front of the king with that big mask covering his head and the palace got suddenly attacked and Jimong screamed… Hae Soo wasn't there, in that exact moment she was with Chaeryung at the festival. Is a bit creepy, who did that??? Only someone with general knowledge of the events. Probably Jimong through his dreams/visions knows everything. No, Baekah wasn't there, in my previous post I said that he visited all the remaining princes and drew their best moments with Soo according to their story. So Baekah didn't paint what he saw, he painted according to what Wook, Jung, and So described to him. He was described as a talented artist so it would be no problem for him to paint only from what people described to him. About Soo's flashback, my theory is she might not see the ritual herself, but she remembered what she did when that ritual took place. That's why her flashback didn't contain the ritual itself (because yes, she wasn't there to see) but her moment with CR in the market when the ritual took place, which also led to the memory of her fooling around with So with the mask in that very same place. About the rest of the painting: the rain ceremony (she was there), kneeling in front of Taejo (she was there), Jung saving her (she was there), the princes playing game (nah we never know if she saw them playing or not, but maybe she did), Eun's birthday (she was there), holding Wook's hand in the snowfield (she was there), Lady Hae's death (she was there). What bothers me is her vision when she saw the last painting though. GJ killing those court men, did it really happen or was it just her imagination of how things happened after she left him? She wasn't there to witness the execution and the painting didn't show any signs of it, but we know it was her last premonition that hadn't happened yet, and she knew so far most of her premonitions came true.So maybe she imagined that execution based on her premonition.

After GJ realized that Soo wasn't from the same world with him (and somehow knew she was from the future) he decided to send her message by asking Baekah to visit all the remaining princes and put their best memory with Soo into painting. That's why there were painting of Soo following Wook's footstep in the snowfield, Jung protecting Soo from the bad guys, and Eun's birthday. Baekah also painted So's most defining moment: the ritual and the rain ceremony, and him standing alone in the palace. GJ knew these paintings would be preserved and make their ways to the future. That's the only way for him (and the princes) to remind her of them. Now that I write this, I think JM did the right thing by reminding GHJ about her time in Goryeo, eventhough I initially thought he was cruel. Can you imagine if JM didn't tell her? She wouldn't take her steps into the gallery, she wouldn't remember anything about So and the princes (yes she did dream about So but she was completely clueless), and all of GJ's and the princes' effort with those paintings would go in vain. As much as Soo deserved happiness, she also deserved to remember because that life in Goryeo was a piece of her life too. Her entire time in Goryeo, though mostly sad, also had some happy moments she would like to treasure. How it feels to wake up and know that something's missing but have no idea what it is? Now at least she understood. Of course it would be very nice if she met the modern So too after this realization, which should have happened according to LJG. Now.. understanding it better & love it

Popular Post Umi_ni_Sora
I actually curled into a ball today and cried for a good minute or two after re-watching the last episode. Despite all the flack surrounding this drama, we have to at least agree that this drama moved us emotionally. Because I felt so connected to So and Soo, I couldn't help but empathize for their longing, pain, and sadness. I came across a post on Tumblr (sorry, forgot the username), who mentioned that Soo died before her 10 years because she wanted to keep the baby. I never doubted her in keeping the baby, but the fact that she pushed on and tried her best to bring her baby to the world is such a testament of her love for So. She'd rather live on with So hating her than giving up something that is proof of their union and embodied their love. It hurts so much to watch her say, "He must still resent me that much." Something like that. The performer mentioned that the song she sang is the one Soo sang to Eun on his birthday - the king's favorite song that made him fall in love with a court lady. Watching Soo, you can see she smiled at that. I think Soo died thinking So resented her, but she also died knowing that So loved her. It's so poetic and tragic. And I can't blame So for how he behaved, because he has always been emotionally charged and socially inept. Contrasting to what people have said about So changing, I felt that he never changed. He just changed his position in life, but he's always been the So we know. He now has the power to move the world, which was something that he never had before. It's hard watching him that even with power, he was still helpless to protect the people he loves. The drama really emphasizes that relationships with people really can change you and make you, but it can also hurt you. Every character in this drama has sacrificed or lost their love. King Taejo lost Lady Oh, the queens lost their children, So lost Soo, Wook lost MH, Wo lost CR, BA lost WH, Ji Mong lost Mu, GP lost SD, Eun and SD lost each other, the list goes on and on. Love is such a powerful thing. I really feel it in this drama. This crap is so depressing... but I love it because it touches me and encourages me to love more passionately. Thanks MLSHR.

hrkharis
I think maybe Jimong is actually an angel ... LOL. He can appear anywhere and at different times...... At first he appeared as a beggar...... then became an astronomer and advisor to the king ....... and last appeared as a historian .... The point is that Jimong had used Hae Soo to help him make Wang So be a king of Goryeo. In the end he let her with her confusion and acted as if he never did anything. Meanwhile, for Hae Soo, the events that she had experienced, drowned in the lake, in a coma for a year, and survived, is an experience which is like a nightmare. She continues to be haunted by her dreams as if she has really experienced it. So Jimong is really an angel who was not responsible because he does not appear again as an angel in the end and brings together HS and WS in the 21st century, so that all the audience of this drama be disappointed....... LOL

Popular Post 40somethingahjumma
I'm not sure if anyone is interested in reading anymore analysis of the show now that it's all over. I can see that many of us are suffering withdrawals to some degree or another. I don't know how many times I've watched the entire sequence starting from when So finds out that Su's dead to when he takes her ashes back to the prayer pagoda. The angst.. the sobbing... I just can't get enough of it. Honestly, I wish we had more. I know I'm practically insane... and I must be because I walked into a popular drama blog and 80% of the comments told me that this drama was rubbish. But I'm itching to say a few things about OTP's deteriorating relationship in Ep. 19. Probably not the best thing to be discussing right now... seeing what the mood's like. Just watching Ep. 19 again for the fine detail on a textual level and I'm amazed at how much of their personalities and interpersonal issues the writer packed in for those two early scenes they had together. Episode 19 was very rushed and I missed the detail in some key moments that demonstrated how much was So talking past Su in such a deliberate fashion. It's absolutely textbook Relationship Disaster 101. The insight that the writer has over how couple communication breaks down is absolutely spot on. The first scene: Quote I want to leave this place. I... I can't hold on much more. Then, what about me? Do you think I will let you go? You... definitely cannot leave me. The second scene: Quote I heard about it from Ji Mong. I'd like to make you Royal Consort. It's not necessary. Isn't it better than being called concubine? I don't want to hear this. I will make you via edict, Second Lady only to the Queen. When you've given birth to a child, I will confer you with the title of Second Queen. The main reason why I want to leave is not because of these things. Discuss with Ji Mong what you'd like to be called. Your Majesty. You obviously know that it's not possible, so don't be so stubborn. Let's not quarrel again, alright? Have you forgotten how long we were separated for? Let's not allow a tiff to squander our time together. I don't know about anyone else but it does feel to me that So is riding roughshod over her or what? I know he's terrified of losing her and LJG does a great job of displaying the right amount of desperation here but he's deliberately ignoring her. Or what she wants. His first instinct is about what he wants. Notice he never asks her why she wants to leave which would be the logical question to follow up her plea with. All he does is skirt the issue, appeal to her emotions, downplay their problems and gloss over her fears. It's as if he's saying to her, "Everything is going to be fine. Everything will be fine if we just stop arguing." Personally I think it's just brilliant. I think he has more than an inkling as to why she wants to leave and in his heart of hearts, he knows she has justification. But he's can feel the drift and he's clutching, grasping for dear life. Appealing to the one thing he hopes still tethers them together. Her love for him. However they both have very different ideas of how to hang on to that love and since So isn't listening, she has a hard time explaining. I realise that one of the complaints coming out of Ep. 19 is that the writer should have given the viewer more insight into Su's inner life. But maybe what we've presented here is that Su wasn't even given the chance to explain even when she tried. The King used his power and his strength to shut her down before she could reach the man inside the King. He assumes, like the audience assumes, that it's about trust and it's about not having the status. He assumes a lot but he's too afraid to actually ask why. There's no doubt So is a pitiful character having experienced so little love but he's smothering her and he's trying to put out bush fires here without coming to grips with what's causing them. The thing is, love needs to be nurtured. I don't entirely blame him for not knowing very well how to do this as he didn't experience love himself growing up. The only kind of love he knows how to give is the imposition of his will. This is the reason why Jeong is the prince to take Su through the last leg of her journey because he did experience genuine love growing up. His mother really did dote on him and showered him with her love so he's never lacked any of it in that department and can give it freely. However, the great and wonderful irony about that is that he couldn't receive love from Su because she had already given it all to the brother who didn't get any from his mother. Who says life isn't fair? Lady O was such a perceptive woman. She truly understood how the men in the palace were. She told Su that being trapped between the princes (4 and 8 specifically) would destroy her and she also told her that people don't change people. She also said that palace men are cowards when it comes to the throne. And she was absolutely right on ALL counts. Yeah, just keep telling me the writing is bad. Maybe one day I'll believe it.
