His eternal loneliness is the ultimate price he is willing to pay in exchange for her freedom and safety because he LOVES HER SO MUCH HE CAN’T BE SELFISH WITH HER and it doesn’t come as a suprise because even years ago he was capable of such sacrifice when he offered her marriage and subsequent divorce just to save her from slavery. The knowledge that she would be free and safe is enough for him because he would never ask of her to wait when he can’t marry her, when he can’t give her everything - he loves her too much to ask that of her.

“Now I must look like a monster in your eyes, too. I did kill Eun.”

It’s the ultimate, heartwrenching irony of fate is that Wang So sarcastically and self-depricatingly tells HS that now she must think of him a monster IN THE VERY PLACE WHERE SHE PREVIOUSLY TOLD HIM HE WOULD RUIN EVERYTHING AND THAT SHE WAS AFRAID OF HIM. And finally, the fact that HE IS IS BREAKING UP WITH HER IN THE VERY PLACE WHERE SHE HERSELF TOLD HIM TO LET HER GO, TO LEAVE AND GO FAR AWAY AND NEVER RETURN. In the end, SHE GETS HER WISH AND PUNISHMENT - she feels the same desperation So felt when she was pushing him away, it’s HER NOW WHO IS AFRAID SHE IS ABOUT TO LOSE HIM FOREVER.

 

Always inspiring reading your post. I don't think I've ever seen a love as selfless as So's love before in any Kdrama. The fact that So is actually the one who was deprived of love the most from all people but he is willing to let the ONLY love he got in his life go for her happiness is totally heartwrenching.  I agree that he will eventually release Soo from the palace, because that will be the only promise he can still keep for her.

@NitaA and @soorani Thank you for that clarification  . I completely forgot about her being considered 'The King's Woman'. I'm glad that's not going to create another problem because I had thoughts of WS not being able to own his child and all. But I'm that's not the case

That seems true so thank you for that. It also makes me think about Beak Ah's drawings. I wonder if he'll end up drawing something with WS and HS together and if that'll end up in a museum somewhere for HS to see.

I LOVE this set of gifs... thanks for putting it together chronologically. It's gorgeous.

They exemplify to me the glorious progression that is my favourite K drama OTP of all time. The PD has done a terrific job in visually highlighting the way the two of them have gotten closer over time. I had almost forgotten until last night that it was Su who got So interested in stargazing in the first place. It was she who led him to finding pleasure in staring at the open sky and appreciating the night lights. She gave him the eyes to see the stars in a new and fresh way. To me that was the beginning of So's attraction to Su as someone who could find enjoyment in a place like Goryeo the little things that one takes for granted.

The significance of him taking her out to see the stars on her birthday is even more precious when one realises how much So understands Su and remembers things about her. The things that brings her pleasure aren't transient material things but the simple things of life. He doesn't care to impress her with possessions but with moments and memories because those are the things that he values with her. You can almost hear the reverberations of "without her I am nothing, without her I have no so-called future to speak of".

I don't know how anyone can see that last picture of those two bantering about mispronunciation and not think that Su is head over heels in love with So. Not only is she barely inches from kissing him but that smile... speaks a thousand words of utter bliss. Her eyes are focused on his and she's lost in him. It's so intimate that as a spectator my role borders on voyeurism. It's an invitation to open and deeper intimacy. The permission that he's been craving for is no longer needed. At last she's finally and truly given herself over to him. 

Oh my suffering couple.  Be still my beating heart.

Just completed my support the cast fans project. People passing by was looking at me like what am I doing snapping picture with Scarlet Heart Ryeo was here Written on a piece of paper in the front door of the Bowling venue. But I just coolly smile and focus snapping picture. Omg this drama make me totally fangirling on different level. Before this I don't even care to make something like this for Kdrama that I like... Hahaha I am totally addicted to Scarlet Heart Ryeo lol.
