I stopped watching some dramas around episode 10 but I return to it after a while to see the ending.

I love it when dramas improve in the second half of their run.

When it happens I'm over the moon.

I'd like it to be the case with this adaptation too.

Drama is for entertainment, you can always stop watching any time. 

Seems like you dislike the original and you dislike the first half of this drama too, so I am not sure what are you watching for. 

The 2nd half of this drama, is going to be packed with alot of unhappy and dislikeable things like half sister marrying half brother, brothers plotting against each other, people dying and couples being torned apart.

So I am just saying just brace yourself, in case at the end of ep 20, you find your time wasted.

Hello @ventilator! Welcome! Maybe I'm one of those few people who didn't realize some flaws until someone pointed it out for me.  lol. Or I realize the flaw but tried to ignore it, and eventually forget about it. lol. I'm new to soompi but I can see that people in this thread take critiques well because this drama does have it's flaw. But just like @MadraRua said It doesn't stop me from catching Scarlet Heart Fever and also doesn't stop my obesession love for Wang So this drama. Oh, well mostly Wang So. pfftttt This thread is actually very rich in contents and there are many different insight, opinion, analysis, appreciation and other things that maybe can make you feel better and give you a whole new perspective for this drama (it happened to me. lol). But then, it's all up to you, you can accept the flaw and join us here in fangirling ready for angst that's gonna come mode, or you can just drop the drama.  Hehe

In the C-Version, it was the reason why the 4th let Ruoxi leave the palace, but here in the K-version it wouldn't make any sense since So knows Soo was in love with someone else, so what does it matter that it was Wook or some other strange? Even more now that he finally got her heart. 

However... the fact that he still doesn't know that the person Soo was in love was Wook makes me believe that it will play a part the plot in the future. He still believe they only cared about each other as relatives. So what do you think? 

 

@soorani: I rewatched episode 33 of the Chinese drama, and I think the 4th prince let Ruoxi go because he thought she was still in love with the 8th prince and not just because of their past love. I missed this line the first time I watched the C-drama, but the 4th prince said to the empress, "the deeper the love, the greater the hate" when she asked him about his actions towards Rouxi.

I think WS might not have believed HS when she said she loved someone else. She said it after she said all those other cruel things that he didn't believe either. And she never mentioned it again to him.

So this is why SBS remains uncommitted about the last week of the drama, because likely in any of the upcoming week, one ep will be delayed and so ep 19 and 20 will still end up together in the final week. Ahh, I have to say I didnt see that coming, since of course I didnt know there is this big baseball match in the horizon.

So it seems like they have written a water tight contract that simulcast is simulcast?  Anyway I am keeping an eye on Onetv's trailers.

@dears Today was nuts lol. I had work in the morning and when I got home, I studied for an exam. By the time, I got on Soompi, I had to back read and forward read. Can you believe it? I multi-quoted about 50 post... I like to watch more too but if something comes up in my mind, I'll write something. I want to apologize first to people who I tagged because I cut short your quote. And EVERYONE, prepare tissue papers, water, frying-pan, bread dough / crackers / food related, pillow with you. When you watch the upcoming 7 episodes, have a pillow so you can hug, the frying pan to slap the bread dough / crackers / food related (to resist the temptation of beating up the evil characters ), water to drink to clear your throat and tissue papers to wipe your tears.

@penelop3@millie10468 And to add to that, after finding out about Wook's intentions and knowing his illness is getting worse, I think he fears a lot. He fears for the nation, for his family and for the people around him. Also, possibly before King Taejo died or during the Crown Prince's reign, maybe he was notified by Ji Mong that So would be king too. I'm just guessing about this part. Yo most likely will be the one issuing the death sentence to Hae Soo that's when she will go on the run with So. Then when So becomes the king, he will issue the death sentence to Chaeryung.

@soorani Someone actually mentioned about the possibility that Wook will play a role in helping Soo to move out of the palace. I know some people said that So is smart and he probably knows that Wook is her first love. I actually think otherwise. I think he really values the family bond and when he asks that Soo still cares for Wook as a relative, I think he actually meant it. Because really, he hasn't really seen them being "lovey-dovey" yet.

Based on HJH's interview, somebody suggested that when Tae (Queen Yu's first son) was alive, their mother was probably favoring him as the son to succeed the throne and also doting much love on So the way she is doing now with Jeong, with Yo being in the middle, feeling somewhat neglected. Then Tae died and So was sent to Shinju instrad of Yo. This made Yo realize how fleeting mother's love for him is and become more desperate, while So was longing for the motherly love that he used to receive before the scar. 

Historically, So was Wang Geon's favorite son (next to the Crown Prince), and the point of the 10 Instructions about allowing a brother take the throne instead of a son may have been for this purpose. So was the first prince to marry within the family, so this could have been Taejo's big picture.

Kang Jo throwing out Mokjong (Wang So's grandson) and making Wook2's son king is much much later and unrelated to Gwangjong weakening the clans. Mokjong's mom (Wook1's daughter) and her boyfriend were pretty much dominating the court, so he lost interest in ruling and just had fun with his boyfriend. Of course, historical records we read today are from the winner's perspective, so we always have to take it with a grain of salt. Some records indicate that Mokjong entrusted Kang Jo to get rid of his mom's boyfriend and Kang Jo turned on him in the process, but who knows.

Yes, I did confuse myself. That's what happens when you don't know Korean . And I agree with your last point that much of the historical records from the old times were from the winner's perspectives. That's why even though a lot of people said that Gwangjong will be ruthless, in reality, what if he's not. Through the drama, we see the incompetent Crown Prince, plotting Yo, and dark Wook. What if they all had talents but luck is not on their side?

@sooji28@Killa92 Chaeryung is supposed to betray Hae Soo. I know she betrays but I like to think of it as she is forced too. She can't get out of her love for the 9th prince and she really likes Hae Soo as a friend, a sister. I think she's just really torn between choosing friendship and love.

@SizzlerZ@violet90@meahri_1@faeriealice I think it's because history doesn't say much about the Crown Prince's reign. So there's not much the drama can show us. He is a good guy but incompetent as a King. Yet he had to take up that burden. Normally the eldest prince takes the crown. But since King Taejo issued his 10 instructions, anyone can take the throne now. WS would become the king after defeating WY and he'll have the backing of the Chungju Yoo clan, Shinju Kang clan, and Hwangju Hwangbo clan just like @ruizaio said. It's too bad the Crown Prince has to die. He really sees Hae Soo as a younger sister and probably at the last minute of his life, seeing Hae Soo being captured by Yo while he is nearing his death probably hurt him a lot.

@valsava I think King Taejo married Queen Hwangbo before Queen Yoo's oldest child died because the drama states that Wook and So were born in the same year.

@solelylurking I agree with @dhia205. How is he supposed to do that when So (LJG) is supposed to be Hae Soo (IU)'s love in the drama? I think the difference in So kissing Hae Soo and Wook with no kissing scenes is just to show us that Hae Soo will love So ultimately. And I think someone mentioned that we rarely see the female lead kissing the second male lead. And plus the Korean audience didn't want to see Hae Soo kissing Wook.

Through most of the drama it was apparent that Queen Yoo was evil but Queen Hwang appeared to be meek, considerate and loving, at least it appeared that way with WW's wife.  The first time she shows any hint of evil is when she stops WW from going to HS while she's petitioning the King for Lady Oh's life when she says she must protect her child's life.  That indicates she was aware that YH was behind the attempted poisoning of the CP and she is willing to let Lady Oh die in her daughter's place.  I could be mistaken here and she could be referring to the King's anger at whomever took HS's side so she's worried about WW, not YH, but that's not the feeling I get from the scene.  I think she was aware of YH's actions and, since she apparently did nothing to stop her, QH is as guilty of attempted regicide as was YH.  I know we're led to believe it was QY who sent Lady Oh the miscarriage-inducing tea and blamed it on QH, but what if it actually was QH who sent the tea and who then claimed innocence to throw the blame for her actions on to QY.  This would essentially be the same thing  as YH having HS deliver the poisoned tea and then pretending to drink it so as to throw suspicion off of her.  Like daughter, like mother.  After So tells JiMong to gather the General and his army, it is QH who has her wits about her and tells QY they need to come up with a plan to save their sons' lives.  My point is, and maybe I'm over-thinking it, QY is vain and shallow but QH is deceptive and calculating.  This side of WW is now coming out.  When he says, he must not be "seen" as acquiring the throne through ignoble means and that the traitor who betrays a traitor is a hero, he shows that he, too, is deceptive and calculating.  Like son, like mother.  This is why I say QH and her kids are more of a threat to the CP than QY and WY ever were.

You're right. Since Yeon Hwa parallels Queen Yoo, she can also be a parallel of her mother. It's too bad the drama doesn't write about the past of the supporting characters that much or else, we'll be able to get a clearer picture of what's going with all these ladies and other supporting characters.

@liddi Well said about how MLSHR's pros outweighed the cons. I love its unique adaptation.
