I agree that HS fear or i should say the overwhelming of fear towards WS was something that was a bit sad, and true she got to WS. he isnt just a historical figure. but i think for HS being someone from the modern era. any kind of killing whether it be to save someone from pain or to actually harm. Now we dont agree with both, we dont support such killings so i understand her reaction especially since the vision involve 10th who really became her first friend.

 

I am hoping that the fear doesnt paralysis her too much, i can see already from end of ep 9 her rejection has quite a harsh backlash onto WS. Especially since she said before she isnt scared of him.

finally finished episode 8 with sub (again late) and my ramblings are as below ( beware its gonna be a long long post)

scene#1 lady oh saves HS from queen with reason that king has knee problem after rain ritual but we see king in pain while bowing during rain ritual afterwards, just thought this scene could have been added prior to lady oh and queen's encounter. 

scene#2 while all princes putting their names for rain ritual ballot what WS said was so in sync with how he will pursue HS.  Ws says:

Rain does not happen because of rain ritual but we do rain ritual till rain occurs. we cant move heavens but we can do to show it that way.

in similar fashion he will keep on wooing - pursuing HS till she finally showers rain of her love on WSs love starved soul. and at the same time it will prove WS does not know how to back off once he sets his eyes - heart on somethig. That will again shows how he will pursue the throne to have it, to attain the power.

Scene#3 As soon as WS enters the altar hurt mentally and physically he looks at everyone and finally his eyes rest at HS and she looks at him briefly before turning her head down and then WS looks disappointed (or hurt.. couldn't read that expression) he himself told her I hate ur look so might be the reason she had to look away to not to make him feel anymore embarrassed.

Scene#4 YoYo talking abt how WS was selected by king n JM and not by heavens so I can say King is on WSs side to be next king after CP. 

Scene#5 makeup session... woww I have watched this scene already 20 times and still when I watched it gets too hot here... what I like the most WS opening his eyes in between and staring at her face then closing again.. without any words this moment stole my heart completely. Followed by my fav desperate hug.. I loved WSs words there and his attempt to kiss.. but I dint feel he was all in for kiss but rather felt he was giving her hint that she is his and he can show his authority physically like kissing her. His eyes was opened all the time and observing her face so closely and ehen he felt she is quite shocked he let her go.

Scene#6 The most important and prominent scene for me was where WS (after his transformation) gets down of palaquinin and people bow down seeing his face without mask (and scar). This scene was so well written showing how that world is no different than now in Judging someone on the basis of how they look on outside instead of who they are inside. And WSs tiny sarcastic smile does prove the same how he found it amazing (in negative way) same people were throwing stones on him a day back and now all set to see him as Son of dragon just cause he looks without scar now.

Scene#7 I have to compare HS-WW scene at their hideout and at the rain ritual. WWs eyes light with stars and he has smile as bright as day of bright sunlight and I was falling for him badly there in washing hole..lol..

in rain ritual scene... he had his smile while looking for HS but it was fading out gradually when he observed her looking at WS and finally his face was as gloomy as those black clouds above WSs head when he figured out HS could be (or he figured out she is) behind WSs scarless (beautiful - gorgeous) face. I dont know why I get a hunch that this man will turn much more possessive than WS. He couldn't even survive the look WS-HS exchanged (i am not sure if he saw the look exchange or just HS looking at Ws) during ritual. I can surely speculate he can bring hell out of his goodness and can turn the evilest version of himself to give WSs so far dog wolf image run for its money.  (and as its abt Wook.. i have to call Wookie fangirl to add more if miss to observe @solelylurking.. chingu ya...wookie is all urs to analysis now..)

scene#8 HSs flash of WS as Gwanjong... I am planning to write one analysis solely on flashes and how it works. so will write is sometime this weekend. 

i am not at all good in writing but always have so many thoughts running in my head almost all the time so just tried again if it all could make a sensible and understandable post for you all.

Out of context it may look like a brutal killing act. When you look at the screencap... all of them hold a sword. There's no bow. 

It's just an assumption (as I have no knowledge about war conduct/practices in Goryeo era and generally in Asian early middle age era) but there might be some sort of ritualistic kills to avoid a humiliating death in the hands of enemy.

I think yes Soo is the most important to So right now. She always surprises him with questions and responses. "Why did you kill them?" when he said he killed people (Ep 3), when she stares directly at him in Ep 7 with unwavering eyes, "I'm the only one who determines how I live." in the boat scene (Ep 8). These things catch him off guard and when you watch his expression you can see the shock and confusion. She understands him best and he realises that.

Her helping him remove his mask and cover his scar is definitely the turning point of his fate as well as his view of her. He literally told her he is his and I'm guessing he wants it to work both ways. She helped him grow and realise that people don't give care and show respect based on looks. They do so for the person you are. All this "good fortune" that has been shone upon him is all thanks to Hae Soo. The downside of this revelation is that Hae Soo has gotten nasty visions of him when he does become Gwangjong and she is terrified of what she thinks he will become. The care and kindness she had for him has been overshadowed by all the grim visions she has been experiencing.

I think when he announced that he wanted Hae Soo to be his it was just all good timing that everyone was there to hear it. And I think that happened for a reason because the camera did pan to Wook, Baek Ah and Eun's faces revealing their reactions. He is becoming quite obsessive and possessive and this is heightened when she tries to push him away. Like I mentioned in my Ep 9 review him forcing himself onto her shows that he won't let her go and that he is basically marking her as his. I mean he even verbally says it. But the fear she has for him is quite extreme as she is not only worried that he will turn into a monster but that all those around her that she cares about may die. 

I'm just really curious as to how she will react after the kiss is over. Will she fear him more? What will it be like when Wook finds out since he already professed his love for her. The complexity of their relationship makes this show that much more interesting and we are slowly beginning to see the layers of both So and Wook which are very different from what we initially witnessed. MONDAY PLS COME ALREADY!

A major part of what makes this show so addictive is the unpredictability in the relationships. Sure we know (or think we know) what the endgame is but it's the trajectory that's always up for grabs. To me Su-So is the OTP... they've always have been even when he was slashing monks and burning temples. They don't become the OTP, they are the OTP. Furthermore it was always on the cards that this relationship would be difficult. They're not the OTP because they're perfect people or that tick all the boxes. They ARE the OTP because they have this deep connection which is to all intents and purposes metaphysical. She from another time and place, apparently reborn. He was left to fend for himself and to find a way of nursing his wounds without the support of family. Rain falls on the day of his greatest triumph despite all the scepticism about Heaven's workings

Despite having been drawn to the light because of Su, So is still a creature prone to bursts of darkness. We've seen it and been reminded of it relentlessly by those who wish to see him fail. This makes all the outcry against the "forced" kiss odd. I think most of us would agree that imposing our wills on another goes against current orthodoxy regarding individuals rights and universal suffrage. But this is a modern idea. A very modern idea. So isn't a modern man although he has his charms. He is a man of Goryeo and not just any man but a prince with more baggage than a boatful of refugees. He also has an overwhelming personality but he allows himself to be tamed by Su because he is attracted to her inner strength and that she doesn't seem to mind his rough ways.

All that to say that the "forced" kiss is reasonably consistent with who So is. We can debate the morality of such an act till the cows come home and beyond but it is largely irrelevant as far as the story is concerned. I don't think any of us even those who love him dearly would ever consider So passive by any stretch of the imagination. I still think it was an act of desperation exacerbated by his mother's consistent rejection of him as her offspring and then Su's apparently "out-of-no-where" rejection of him. When one considers that his modus operandi used to be "throat grab" or "kill and ask questions later", the kiss would actually be a step up in confrontation strategy especially when he was that close to losing control. 

I also think that there's some kind of unspoken assumption in fandom that their relationship needs to follow a set trajectory. I imagine that part of it has to do with being an adaptation and part of it is that we've been trained to think that romance must be developed in a certain fashion that A must lead to B and then to C. It seems to be a great offence in romance storytelling if A leads to C which leads to E. Perhaps I am simplifying the problem a tad.  However, you understand my point.  And there's timing... a common fear that if the couple doesn't kiss properly by Ep. 8, or do XYZ by Ep.10  that they aren't the OTP. I'm sure that there are good reasons for having the first kiss in Ep. 8 or 9 storytelling wise but it shouldn't necessarily be about viewer expectations.

 

I still haven't changed my mind about Su's naivete regarding history and historiography. I think it's an interesting plot device which does tie into her lack of palace savvy. On an unconscious level she might see herself as an agent of change for the better. But the palace is a lot older than Hae Su and it does not take kindly to change. There are ingrained dynamics and assumptions that bring people together... spoken and unspoken... and while she may position herself outside of it, involving herself in the lives of its inhabitants has placed her at the centre of things once too often. I wouldn't say I wasn't a little disappointed with Su not so much her reaction to getting Gwangjong the Evil Tyrant visions but how she dealt with her emotions and how she reacted to Su. That said, I do understand that history for her isn't some intellectual, book learning exercise but is filled with real people that she cares about. Still I did miss the Su who grabbed hold of the bloodstained So and told him that she understood his need to survive.

So why the premonitions/visions/memory fragments? My guess would be that Su needs to love So unconditionally. She would need to be able to love him despite what she knows or thinks she knows about he is capable of doing. My strong belief is that she will try to stop him from taking power and even hold him back only to discover that there are larger forces at work which ensure that she will not have her way. She may even come to understand why Gwangjong did what he did. Historical Gwangjong may have killed a smattering of relatives but why did he? She thinks he did it out of some inner streak of cruelty due to a lack of familial love. Most likely he did it purely out of necessity. To survive plots against his life and to remove obstacles for implementing reforms. It's the same story all over the world. Her historical naivete at this point doesn't equip her to deal with the realities of how people do things in the palace. As Yo says there's never been king who hasn't had his hands dirty from killing relatives.

To bring me finally to historiography... which is the writing of history and its implications. History has always been written by people with specific purposes and agendas. There are official histories sanctioned by governments and then there are populist accounts. Records are seldom exhaustive and even if they are, there things like war, fires and looting to contend with. There will always be gaps in our knowledge. I can't imagine that we know everything there is to know about Wang So Gwangjong or what went on in his court on a daily basis. And what gets stored or doesn't get stored for posterity too adds another layer complexity.

Who knows... one day we may get a Horrible Histories version of Goryeo where they discuss with some glee which king killed the most number of relatives during that dynasty.

I did, discussing about this week episode with my friends, and seriously we were so frustrated with Hae Soo character... Seriously she is such inconsistent lady, she seems has strong character, but now??????

Okay, this has seriously been the longest day... I can't believe only a day had passed. Been thinking about this drama almost every minute of the day because of the cliffhanger kiss... What will happen after the kiss?.... I can't wait for the story/relationship between WS and HS to unfold... How am I going to get through till Monday???

The pages are moving so fast. After my whole day of Work, I open this page, more than 20 pages to read.

Today, my co teacher asked me why moonlight rating is better than moonlovers. She is watching Moonlovers but she is not watching ML. 

So I said, although I watched the other drama but I am so bias with MoonLovers so I can't find myself excited for the  next episode of Moonlight. As for me Moonlovers is better than Moonlight. 

She is also a big fan of Moonlovers.

He was always an aggressive person who does not know how to react in such extreme emotional moments with words when you are at ur weakest (already hurt by evil mom and then the omly person you want to be belonged just disowns you and moving away from you). He always reacts offensively before anyone could attack him just for his defense. He might have done that to stop HS doing anything rational like running away from him, leaving him broken all alone there.

yes, I think I need therapy.  That is the perils of watching dramas life. Damn it for the simulcast , else I would have watch it after its over.  too late now. 

hmm, i think what I most dislike about HS's change of heart is she is treating WS like a criminal. Man, that guy hasnt even commit the crimes she visualised, if he really will do them. But I know its a plot device. I just hope she changed back sooner.
