iliketoeatsoap
hear me out..... what if So is actually Concubine Oh's son. my main reasoning is (1) the queen treats her other sons TOTALLY differently and uses the phrasing that "her son" has to be on the throne, and (2) Lady Oh seemed to know a lot about HS's relationship w him (not sure if that's just her paying close attention...) but she even mentioned WS and his feelings. In a world where no one cares about him, I feel like his real mom might.

Popular Post sharreb
I couldn't make myself watch ep9 with what we had in the preview and also reading the comments and recaps here. I have shelve it to be watched when next week's episodes arrive. Frankly, I love HS's character at the start. Although it did slip a notch seeing as how her words and actions hurt WS. It cuts him deeper than anyone else because he had let her in to his heart and trusted her. What she did for him accepting him regardless of the scar but also helping to conceal that scar metaphoricaly lifts him up to the heavens, to really believe again to live as an unblemised human being. And then to go crashing down to earth with HS's words. At the same time it's hard for HS. How would we react if we were in her shoes. She set out to help WS in the first place with innocent intentions and treating him as a friend. Then she got the shock of her life when she realised he's King Gwangjong. But the tipping point is seeing him kill Eun and wife. Eun who is also her close friend and Eun who is innocent and least ambition to be king. And if this is her window into the future it showed her what a cruel and ruthless person WS could become. Or in her head WOULD become. And now she fears for all those she cares for, from ,WW to Eun, BA and the rest. So we really can't call her fickle or heartless. Many lives are at stakes and she feels even more guilty thking she has a hand in making WS qualify to be king. At this point I'm thking to give her the benefit of the doubt. She may be from the future but she's just a young girl in her early twenties dumped into a world she doesn't know and now realising that the people in Goryeo Inc WS are far more complicated than her initial understanding or assessment, and above all, she's a human being, not perfect and would do and say as her emotions take her (we already know she's impulsive sort). I'm only reassured is because there will be another tipping point. This time tipping in WS favour. That's when HS heart will face him. We are also seeing WW's potential and start of ambition and possibility of turning grey (or black). In the novel the 8th does change and the throne had become his priority instead of Ruoxi. Not sure if K ver will follow that.

His sacrife will open HS's heart. Deep down he is just a fragile and thirst for love kind-of prince. With what his mother has done to him, he's like a broken jar. No one can't mend it. But after his meetings with HS, i think WS finally knew that HS has already mend his heart. Poor WS, now HS is broken his heart, too.
Popular Post skxz
Fear. It’s the human condition that can destroy us. Confusion. Is what can heighten our fear. The irony of Soo's situations is that it’s not really the fear of the unknown. Soo’s visions of So as Gwangjong have evidently buried her in fear and confusion. We as an audience may not understand why this is the case but empathy is very important in this situation. Put yourself into her shoes. She has been transported 1000 years back, to a time where she has a vague idea of the series of events which are to occur. Is knowing better than not knowing? She doesn’t have all the knowledge of the time and thus it is already difficult for her. Having dark, grim visions does not help her situation. As she has started to accustom her life in such a different time period and make good friends with the people there something unthinkable and terrifying is thrown at her. Does she not have the right to be scared? She’s always thought the best of So never judging him for his actions without knowing but now she’s being shown what he could become. The irony is that she can’t ignore it and this isn’t very Soo like. Thus her fear and confusion have caused her to not be herself. I think the fear and confusion she displays is very appropriate in her situation. She has already started developing feelings for him and her fear is that can she really be with this person if he changes? I know we all wish for her to sail off with So and live happily ever after but it is events like this that will strengthen her relationship with So. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, right? Also with when she questioned if it was Wook she never saw him his face in any visions which she saw So in. Thus she completely disregarded him as a "suspect". Which I think is completely reasonable and I think it was also a relief for her since she likes and looks up to him so much. When I saw the bloody images flash across the screen my heart skipped a beat. If it were to happen to me in real life I think I'd fear for my life. Spoiler Loss. It’s what we fear the most. So’s fear of losing Soo is highlighted very well in the final scene of Ep 9. We view So as a character who has been dragged through the darkest depths of hell and because of this he can withstand anything and everything. But to me his biggest fear is loss, in particular losing Soo. I always saw him as a determined yet damaged character but not one that is obsessive. Soo’s understanding of him is where he starts to become posessive but this is driven further due to her fear of him. Her distancing herself from him and openly telling him to stay away from her has really shook him. He cannot believe that the only person who has really ever understood him has become like everyone else. Loss is So's biggest fear. Gaining something you've always and having that taken away from you is emotionally and psyhcologically damaging and this is demonstrated by So forcing himself onto her shows that he cannot accept that she thinks all the negatives of him and he won't. I wonder how her distancing herself from him will allow his character to grow. It could most probably drive them closer together. Will his demeanour change when he realises that So and Wook have been close all this time? And more importantly that he has professed his love for her before So. Fear and loss were definitely two words which resonated in my mind when I watched Ep 9. I decided to write a post about it due to a lot of talk about how people didn’t understand why she was so scared of So. Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions and I am here to deliver mine ~SKXZ~
Popular Post violet90
its actually interesting to see what WS said in preview... 'whether its love or friendship its the same for me' for me its mean in term of friendship HS is the first one and maybe the only one for him.. a true friendship from HS when she accept all his flaw and still taking care of him innocently (well until that stupid premonition happen)... in his heart HS is his true friend since he was born so even he did't love her she still be the most important person in his world.. in term of love.. WS just turn the friendship into romance and its his first love and his last too.. HS is the reason he alive now.. we can see the moment he acknowledge and declare HS belong to him he already take action.. asking instead of land from the king he ask for HS.. i just love how he said 'there something that i want more than land'.. there just nothing else matter to him right now except HS... so in a way whether its friendship or love HS is the only one... whether she right now want friendship not love WS can give that to her too.. it does't matter as long as she stay with him... that just so manly and gentleman in my eyes..
Popular Post qwenli
I am reading on Mobile now and can't quote specific people, but I want to give credit to the handful of you who say that HS is over reacting because she already has feelings for So. It didn't cross my mind about this, but when I think about it there appears to be some truth. In an earlier ep, during the birthday party? She look at all the princes and wondered to herself who is going to be gwangjong. As she scanned their faces, she was nonchalant till she rest on wook and then she shook her head thinking it can't be him. It can't be the person she loves. So it applies that she cannot accept that So, whom she care about, it's the dreaded one. Of course she also can't come to terms that she had a hand in helping So overcome his scar issue and now is eligible for the throne. But I dun think she will be that freaky if she didn't care about him and that's why she got teary when So said all those things to her, and that's why a tear roll down her eyes when So kiss her. I mean if she doesn't like him or care less about him, she would just be angry of that forced kiss. But she cried, somewhere in her, she has feelings for him. *Sob* *sob*, as I write to this point, i want to cry too. Its the same feeling when I imagine my dear ones dying before I do. Here hs is seeing an ominous future that she doesn't like with someone she cares about. The director and writer is trying to convey to us a point with that droplet of tear....

Popular Post fathiayunia
Spoiler 3 hours ago, bingewatcherinsomniac said: This thread is so lively! With almost 30+ pages to skim through, it almost impossible to do it now... Nevertheless, I am so grateful to you all for many interesting insight and in-depth discussion this forum provide, I'll promise to read it all later~ Based on the few posts I have read, I can feel a sense of betrayal and resentment radiating from some of you towards Haesoo for her behaviour in episode 9 that seems rather inconsistent and drastically different with the personality she had previously display and we grow fond off. Many thought that her blatant rejection and emotional outburst so out of her character, an overreaction, too judgmental, too harsh, uncalled for especially since he has not done anything wrong just yet... and to certain extent I agree. Which bring us to the question, Is she really changed that drastically or is just her character being poorly depicted? If so, what brings her sudden change? My answer is yes, there was a visible shift in her personality as the story goes. It shows how all of this experience molds her as a person, it display her growth, a natural development to prepare herself for the difficulties ahead of her. But to judge her entire character only on her momentous eruption of emotions, is a bit unfair. It happened at the heat of the moment when her tension reaches its peak, but it was a temporary reaction just like any emotional outburst. Eventually, she will overcome that, rationalise her thought and back to her kind and compassionate core. If I try to put a fitting purpose of this episode specifically for our heroine, it was all about her growing pains, a moment of revelation, a time to bid farewell to her innocent self. Yes in the past she had faced many unfamiliar and difficult situation which she overcomes just fine with her positive spirit and relentless attempt to adapt. However we all know that is not enough for her to survive. Knowing the sea of difficult challenges she will face in the future, it's about time to tone down a bit her modern nonchalant way of thinking and start adopting some of goryeo sensibilities. Of course there are a lot of positive aspects of her modern pov she definitely should preserve that makes her extra special, but we also knows it can create a lot of complications. Case in point, (i) her rash and hasty behaviour that got her into a lot of trouble, (ii) the fact that her words and promises din not carry the same weight compare to most goryeo people because in modern times we get used to bluff, scoff, and jest. (iii) her act of concern and simple gesture of kindness to the Princes do caused a major confusion especially to the one that harbor a special feeling to her like 4th, 8th, and 10th, and as a result on the surface it might come off as if her level of commitment to the relationship differs than them as well. Based on my observations, at least there are 3 main reasons that help pushed her development: 1. Lady Oh, as her apprentice and her confidante, we can clearly see her influence in haesoo's behaviour as palace maid. Notice her improvement in her speech mannerisms, learning hanja, expanding knowledge on tea and medicinal herbs, etc. Before, she honestly had no idea what kind of situation she got herself into, and naively approach her role as a court lady as simply a job and a place to stay. But now she come into full realisation what kind of life she has to endure as a court lady. Her growth especially evident after her promotion that she seems calm, composed, a little bit distant and reserved just like lady oh's demeanor. 2. Wang Wook, after their last encounter, it became clear to her that she cannot holding on to his sweet empty promise anymore. He did it to ease her worries but she fully aware that the future they're dreaming together might not come to realisation, and there's huge chance their fate will never crossed path anymore. She suddenly learns that having a dream of future is a luxury for a court lady. It's a bittersweet moment as both knows their end, even gave each other parting gifts, but chose to stay silent hide their worries and just cherish and appreciate their moment together. As a result, she gain new realistic approach on relationships and no longer being naively optimistic about anything. 3. And then there's wang so, even long before she aware of the premonition, he always been a person she unconsciously drawn her attention to, a source of her unsettling feelings, her deep concern, her pensive look, her worries. His presence already filled her mind. But all these conflicting feeling start magnified the moment she realise what he could become, she didn't know what to do and how to process that kind of revelation. To her it just a simple act of kindness, but it means the world to him and literally changes his life. It teach him despite his flaw he able to receive love, and capable to share as much, if not more, love he received. It set his life back to its rightful path, it gave him confidence and life purpose. At one side she knows more than anyone that beyond his cold personal, he's fragile, sensitive and kind. But she also aware of his dark side, his cruel tendency to survive, and what he capable of when he is at his lowest. At her stage of denial, she start blaming herself, feeling burden of the weight of her action, afraid that she's the trigger of all of these misfortune. She's under immense stress and mentally dejected, that understandable in the heat of the moment she blatantly rejects him and blurt out her utmost fear. It was honest, raw, unfiltered reaction but it was temporary. Eventually she will grow past that and back to her kind and compassionate self, though with more realistic and responsible approach in her actions (I'll promise to share my perception with better details on my next post) As conclusion, it's true for her character that sometimes being ignorant is a bless, it liberates you, gave you clear view and a freedom to act as your heart please. We all know from our own experience that carry a burden of knowledge and keeping a secret are hard to ensure. However as the story progress and heading to intense heart wrenching plot, no better time than now for her character to evolve. Anyway I apologise for this long-richard simmons essay I'm just getting to excited finally manage to squeeze a time to release my inner kdrama addiction. I'm typing frantically on my phone right now, thank you all who kind enough to read my unimportant rambling thoughts, bless you all! I'll be back later after I've done my assignment (how I wish myself a fun unemployed chaebol with no real life restrictions. LOL.) to share my take on haesoo inner turmoil and the emotional last scene of episode 9..see you guys soon Love Love Love your analysis I totally feel that Hae Soo is an emotional bundle of mess in this episode. Yes, it's a contrast to her behaviour before, but it doesn't change the fact that she is in actual fact a mature and warm person for her age in that time period (isn't she about 16-17 y.o in that time period and about 22 y.o in the future? maybe the shift age change does brings back her teens unstable emotions. lol) She feels as if she is a catalyst to future events. The first time she had that vision she is still unsure about the history and her vision (she says something along the line of "Isn't king gwangjong someone who murders his own brothers?") and that makes her super aware of and acts very carefully around Wang So. While wondering whether it's true that WS is someone who's gonna become a ruthless person like that, and whether she helps causing it, she goes to see Astronomer Choi, and hearing he got visions from the future makes her believe her visions is right and true and will happen in the future. And so she made her resolve to change it, while still acts carefully around him. Though the emotional mess of her new recovery of WS made her timid so her resolve doesn't really show much. After having her second vision, though, she believes Gwangjong does murders his own brothers and it triggers her panick attack. She believes she is the cause of all to comes and becomes afraid of it. And in her highest emotional turmoil she blurts out "I'm afraid of who you're gonna become(because of me)!!!" She feels responsible and scared at the same time, and it clouded her vision and judgement of how she hurts WS by saying all of it and contrasting her support from before. So yeah, she is a mess right now. When she clears her heads though, she will be back to the mature and warm person she already is, and see that she made a mistake of judging Wang So of what he haven't done. I hope they're gonna apologize to each other, and builds back their relationship (and take it to the next level while they're at it. LOL). Hopefully with this they strengthen their relationship and both can grow as a better person.

berny
9 hours ago, brielover said: We need to remember what Su's imperative is for being in Goryeo in the first place. "Save the boy." That little boy's name was Eun Wol in modern Korea (his relatives call out to him by name). Su dives in to save him, the eclipse begins, time shifts, and she emerges from the water to find another Eun this time in Goryeo. A Eun that acts much younger than his age - a defining feature - to highlight his connection to that little boy in Korea. People blame Baekhyun for overacting, and he does, but he has also been directed to act in just this way. This helps explain to me why Eun gets so much more screentime relative to the other princes. Eun Wol - the little boy in Korea - is likely a reincarnation of Eun, 10th prince of Goryeo. And Su's imperative remains. "Save the boy". Doesn't this give much more impact - and horror - to the vision she just saw? She's been catapaulted to Goryeo perhaps for a variety of reasons (see my river-daughter post p 516 if you're interested in some mythical/historical possibilities), but her main and most immediate imperative is to save Eun. @brielover Wow you are amazing to spot that detail. I never took much notice of who that little boy was at the lake....because i thought it was just some random accident. But indeed IT IS NOT A MERE COINCIDENCE ..right ? that the boy and the 10th Prince have the same name "Eun" I also wondered that Eun is not the youngest prince...but he is the most childish... (still playing with marbles, with puppets)..i often mistake it that he is the youngest of them all. And now he will be in danger. That's gonna be a game changer....if indeed the main reason of her time-travel is actually Eun...Atleast now, there seems to be a purpose.... As I had to re-watch the early part of Episode 1, Ha Jin (HS) has already been showing the symptoms of panic attack disorder in that episode...she seem to have difficulty in breathing and was pounding at her chest before she saw that little boy Eun fall in the lake.

It makes more sense for Dramafever to have the original version since they are an online international broadcasting company for the drama and had probably pre-subbed the shows when the rights was sold to them. Popular Post iloveknovela
10 hours ago, bebebisous33 said: @lirone First welcome to forum soompi and to this thread! I would like to reply to your comment. In the SBS version (episode 8), when Wang So told her, she was his and was bending to her, she was first like paralysed, then she didn't touch her bracelet, but her wrist. Only a few seconds later, she touched the bracelet. And this was really telling. Wang So had touched her wrist so many times: - episode 7 (twice) - episode 2 Furthermore, notice how the camera zoomed to Wang So's face, when she was finished with the make-up. The camera was supposed to be her eyes in my opinion. For the first time, she is really looking at him and his face. Before, she was just the worker and this picture reveals how attractive he is to her. I have also noticed that after she was finished, Hae Soo was showing the mirror so that he would look at himself, but she didn't pay attention to his face. Moreover, Wang So's gaze was not directed in the direction of the mirror. He was only looking at her. For me, this scene illustrates the physical attraction she has for Wang So. She came to like him as a person, when he was wearing his mask because she could sense that he was a good person despite his bad reputation and his looks. Before, she was never looking at him as a man, but for me, here she reacts diffrently. As conclusion, taking her wrist first is connected to Wang So which reinforces my impression that she is memerised by him. Then she touched the bracelet as if she wanted to remind herself that she was with Wang Wook. So in my opinion, Hae Soo has already started falling for Wang So but she has not realised it yet. Striking is that when Wang Wook told her that he loved her, she only hugged him. She didn't reply to his love confession. From my point of view, she couldn't say that she loved him. In the episode 7, she had said to herself, she liked Wang Wook. And for me, there is a difference between liking and loving. She only had eyes for Wang So after joining the other court ladies. She didn't look at Wang Wook who noticed it. Lastly, Wang Wook's love confession looked to me like a goodbye/farewell. First, before he joined Hae Soo, he sighed as if he was about to do something painful. He wasn't very happy to meet her, although he did the opposite. He hid his true feelings. Then when he gave her the present and told her later, he loved her, I couldn't help myself thinking of the episode 5, when lady Hae had died. He had waited, until she was about to die, when he wanted to tell her that he loved her. My feelings were: Wang Wook is doing it again, only this time, he is able to confess, however this is a break up, but noone will say it as such. She knew that her situation wouldn't change, she only asked him to wait, well aware that would not happen. In my opinion, Hae Soo has already started falling in love with Wang So. But the visions happened therefore she was so shaken. She had come to like and become attracted to wang So, when she saw that he would be the future Gwangjong. This was another reason why she was so scared. She had already feelings for him, but unlike Wang So, she is not aware of it yet, as she had this little romance with Wang Wook. @evie7 @junee22 @Yongzura @littleloony I agree with you dear. Before seeing that vision of GJ, if WW & WS were placed in a situation where HS has to choose, she will definitely go to WS. I am certain of that. Unconsciously, she has this great concern for him when he is hurt or in pain, since the day she saw him bleeding and told her he killed people. Kind of desire to comfort him or just console him. Notice during 10th Prince birthday gift giving and WS was asked to remove his mask.... she came running to him again knowing he is hurt. Then during rain ritual after he was stoned... she came looking for him once again knowing how he feels. She was concerned about him for some reason... perhaps she never had a slightest idea that her action speaks louder. Any man who is in the receiving end will wonder why is she like that to him and if the feeling is mutual he would certainly make a move. I think WW is also wondering about her action toward WS... men can smell things like that. Even Court Lady Oh noticed her and warned her knowing the repercussion. Coz if she is giving WS the wrong signal, she will be deal with the consequence for it. Take note of how WS reacted with her... he began to open up with her about what he went through in the Garden. When she removed the mask and touched his face he is already re-confirming what she really thought about him. After the make-up he was already determined to pursue her. He restrained himself to kiss her but after the ritual he wasn't hesitant to hug her anymore. I guess, if it's not for that vision, she could have been frozen just like the attempted kiss earlier... and just allowed him to hug her. When WW were attempting to kiss her before, she turned away. With WS she froze. Well who can resist that deep and soul penetrating look, anyway!!! I'd definitely tremble and faint just to think that he is about to give me kiss. Like you said, she's still naive about many thing and that includes her true feelings. She may think it's friendship but it's deeper than that.... she just don't realize it yet. I know she will... and that forced kiss will certainly wake her up.
