HIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!! WE ARE HEREEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!! It's sadden me to death that I'm the minority here. I restraint myself from going to the official thread. But I couldn't help reading comments at the website where I watched the subbed R88. I'm so gutted right now. I shouldn't have read the comments. Actually I've been having withdrawals (from trying not to think that JH could be the husband and plus I'm busy too!) that's why I haven't been hanging out here for awhile..

Honestly it's supposed to be family centric this time for the series,but  I can't see how it's useful for the show,or enjoyable for that matter.On reply 94,we had seen how the trends have been going on[the new mcdonald,the dates,places that was totally foreign for haitai,the baseball match,the college,na jung's fraternity,the wait for calling on the booth,etc etc.So,it was not only the home.But this time,it's mostly the three ahjummas and their weird body based talks ,and it has been four episodes already that we see how they pass their quality time.Or else,it's always jh's father's eccentric manner of annoying his wife.Last series entertained me a lot apart from the love sectors,and I have to say,one of the main reason of attraction for me was the friends gang and the night chats,getting drunk,haitai and samchunpeo's fight over keeping the light on,haitai and na jung's camaraderie,so it was a bunch of a lot.I just don't see much going on with this series.At least they could keep the fun parts alive.

@sserene I would too like to see taek with bora...[that photoshoot pictures of them together shows how good they look together]..they're polar opposite of each other,and she could keep their household lively with her shouting and cursing. Taek seriously needs some love,and there is not any other girl available.I've a bit inkling after seeing that drunk scene of the boys together,and how taek's hand is locked with sun woo's hands =S,but I won't take it too seriously.

I don't see that same charm or magic here in R88, which is quite disappointing. It's like I have no reason to watch this series anymore if SW ended up with BR.... :-/

Taek needs some love and Sunwoo has always been attentive to him. When he linked arms with SW, I also felt something but of course it could just be because they're drunk. 

Anyway....

@sc_12c8b0ed95055cea92622993793eb685 yes...im like...50% loosing hope already...maybe the writer never intend to have a "who the husband game" at all coz he makes it obvious but we chose to go on the complicated route  ㅠㅠ..ive rewatched preview for episode 4 again and i noticed the secret glance that mentioned by @nearsea i even made a gif on that scene but decided not to share it here or ill kill everyone's mood i guess haha so let just enjoy our GKP k and see where the writer nim wanna bring us to..anyway good nite..  

SO TRUE. It was obvious in R94 & R97. I hate to admit it but I feel like they're gonna repeat the same formula. Maybe it's the writer's first love or whatever so she has a soft spot for it. Her first love and now her husband is probably someone whom she bickered a lot before they got married... Whatever writer-nim.. Husband game or not, I'm not gonna stay until the end if I felt like it's not gonna be SW.

The things is why the formula never fail. One, perhaps because Koreans lurveeeeeeee bad boy type. Just look at the majority of their drama.... The lead is always the mean one who bickers with the female lead. Two, curiosity kills the cat (or in this case, curiosity gives you hair loss). It's natural for us to feel intrigued by a mystery. On top of that, they leave clues in the drama to make the audience excited. It just intensifies the drama more than ever. Imagine if it's just a normal drama with no hinting of the husband game, would it be as exhilarating as it is now?

I think the writer does intend to have this whole "who's the husband game". It's like their trademark. It's just that they make it obvious and as such repeat the same formula. It's like they don't have to try that hard because everyone would be crazy looking for clues, discuss and discuss like it's first world problem that they need to solve (yes this is including me...for now). It's like "Here's a drama. We don't know future husband but it'll always be the one whom the female lead bickers with. We'll throw some little hints here and there. So take a guess. Don't try too hard! :)"

That's why I feel like I've been taken advantage by the productions. They thought they can string me along with their little game. Sorry I'm ranting here =_=

 

Another thing is the chocolate thingy...even if a woman forget sumthing how cud she forget giving chocolate to her first crush, that she insist giving to her hubby instead? If she gave to sumone else wont just she just say she doesnt remember since it was so long ago?  Why insist giving it to him? Surely she remember whom she liked back then based on what she wrote in her diary. As for hubby, remember he has a cute little sister who's often the culprit of the unsolved mystery around the block...ie the cigarette pack that mysteriously appear under Sumwoo's desk, alSo Jungbong hot dog mysteriously disappeared from the fridge. And Sunwoo's bag was right next to her when Doksun shoved the chocolate into his bag. It was much later when the boys came out to get their bags.

Some said older hubby doesnt match Sunwoo personalities but I beg to differ. He's calm & no raising his voice when wifey accused him reading her diary, he was just being defensive. Junghwan wud have yelled at her already. Anyway I dont see Junghwan as the nitpick who goes around reading his wife diary.He just cudnt bother but Sunwoo most probably wud becos he's the attentive type. Sunwootho he looks normal & wise he has a mischivious side too. Who wud have thought of him trying to watch xrated movie disguised as military ...also tagging along to watch porn movie. Doksun has known Junghwan bad side all along so it wudnt come as a surprised to her..

But still many ep to go but I feel like te love rival will be between Taek & Sunwoo, even if Junghwan was the first to react to Doksun as a man to a woman...at least his body recognized hers as a woman's

At first I thought it's because she's a very, very forgetful person but the things is, even if you're a very, very forgetful person (like me), how could she forget giving a choc to her crush. I still remember my first crush from when I was 7 years old! And I don't even have a diary to remind me of that!! It's just absurd that she forgot that. I bet there aren't many "men" in her life that she considers a crush or first love or lover or whatever. How could she forgot whether she gave it to SW or JH (if any of them is the husband). If SW is not the husband, the writer totally messed with us and think lightly of the audience... Or does DS have amnesia between 1988 - 2015??

The husband's personality in 2015 matched either JH or Taek. Both of them have solemn expressions while SW is more of a smiley gentle warm character? IDK already. I don't want to be clinging on a false hope... *sigh*

Anyway, sorry to burst your bubbles  But I think the scene where DS was wearing too much powder and SW's hand fidgeting as if he's nervous, I think it's because Bora was there. The Sung family was eating when SW came right? And SW stealing glance at BR in the preview, I think they'll show later when it was revealed that BR was the girl that SW likes for 3 years. SW probably likes BR because she's smart and mature thinking (not her personality though). Mature thinking in a sense of how she joined rallies, and there's also a scene where she read a book and quote something about steel from the book (before she turned into a hulk and stuffed DS inside the closet LOL). She's.... philosophical (for the lack of better word)? Haha I know... I know... Or maybe something happened 3 years ago that warmed him up to her. Did his father died 3 years ago? I mean like who would like a monster like BR if it's not because he saw the side of her that no one sees...

I think I might have to give up this series if SW is not with DS... I'll give myself up until episode 10? Because after that, it'd be too late for anything...

Btw @skeletonworks welcome backk..we missed your rant...Everything that you said is probably right..and we're already having a hard time accepting the path the drama is taking lol.But,yeah I'd stop watching too after the bora-sw thing becomes too obvious.
Lol,about the writer and her husband haha...that is so hilarious =P,it does seem like that is her favorite boy crush.Look how deok sun's parent bicker too..but then jh's parents do that also,but I think all the parents do bickering because it's their thing lol [from personal experience =S].But,I just can't take this anymore.All the people who are mesmerized with the drama is probably because of the bad boy rjy,and if we take him away from the scenario..there is nothing much happening ,really.So,it's okay as far as you're stuck there,but because I'm not I don't know where to look...=|,and probably I can't look forth either,because there goes sun woo-bora.So,one that left is taek and his miseries.The only thing that's good about this drama is this thread lol,so yeah,two more week and we'd know for sure.We can have our own fan fiction here.
@skeletonworks,the things that you thought would attract sun woo to bora,I really don't know,because first of all,we don't have much insights into sun woo's mind ,till now.So,even if he has been liking bora from the start,I am not hooked by it,because I've not been involved in the process.The one that we've seen is deok sun,and I loved how she fluttered when sun woo was calling her,deok sun-ah,sun deok sunn,it was really sweet and I could see start of something new up there,but the build up was there only to get splashed by water with the alley scene and the scene on the bus.Maybe it's just me who end up seeing something which is not even there in the first place =/..

@nearsea Just skip those scenes. Haha. I tried hard to like JH so that I'll become less hard broken but I just can't. I don't know why. There's something about the actor. With Jungwoo, it's right off the bat since episode 1. I just can't connect with the actor RJY  When he cursed, he's expressionless while GGP showed more expression while he cursed. I just can't put my finger on why I can't connect with him. But I think this is one of the reason. His facial expressions are lacking.

@kaykafisyah Yeah ditto. Even if my ship is sinking, I can still be logical. I don't want to be called "watching a different drama" or in delulu mode. It's just a drama after all.

No you are not alone..there's plenty of us camping here almost everyday..if you have time and love to do some back tracking..we have lots of theories to be proven with future episodes..we have list of what could happened to the chocolate, we have few fanfics (lol) on how we want/think the series might ended..

Back to your post; on future husband have some trait that didn't match current JH..he didn't yell back/raise his voice at DS but calmly denying that the chocolate was given to him..actually...i noticed that too..noticed how the current husband just calmly sat there and answer BUT...just a but..not to kill your mood..he said later "do you wanna die?" When DS still insisted it was given to him..that's why I don't know anymore..don't know if SW will utter such line to his dearest person (omg my choices of word hahaha "dearest"..)

Anyway, abt future hubby's trait, that's exactly why I believe he's Sunwoo. If he's Junghwan, he wud have yell at her the first time she accused him or he wud ignore her completely. If  he's Taek, he'll leave it as it is.  However this fella gently denied it couple of times before quietly ask whom she gave it too, and when she keeps insisting its him he got annoyed & perhaps jealous that he snap at her with 'Do u want to die?' I think younger SW has shown that side of him especially when with the boys. There were few incidents where he snap at the guys...

Anyway I dunt think Sunwoo will end up with Bora..one reason he is still a junior in high school while she's already a sophomore in a university &  this was in 1988 where Korean society,  even most of Asian society, are not very open to younger guy older woman relationship. They would talk for decades even if the husband is a year younger,  what more 3 to 4 years younger. 

I bet SW has a childhood crush on Bora. Remember when they were children Bora was the prettier one. Prettiest & cleverest girl on the block while Duksun was the chubby, not so pretty one and was one of the boys. As they grow into adolescent, seeing Doksun everyday Sunwoo & the boys didn't notice how she started blossoming into a beautiful girl.  Even when she was selected as the picket girl its still didn't register to them she was selected because she looks good, until they see her on tv. So at most I think Sunwoo was just fanboying Bora.

However I bet Doksun gonna be devastated when she finds out the guy she's having crush on likes her sister instead. Tho her crush started because of her friends,  she now slowly looking at him as a man, that's why she wants to look good for him, but finding out she, as the middle daughter has to yield again to her sister who walk all over her becos of the boy she likes, not just chicken leg that Mr Kim bought for her, wud surely crush her. I hope because of it she'll avoid Sunwoo & starts ignoring him, making him bewildered. It was only then he begins to miss her &  start seeing her differently.

Whatever it is for a boy she likes, I hope Doksun will win over Bora. I simply can't stand Bora. Her self-centeredness,  rudenes, inconsideration for her siblings & everyone else, her jealousy for Doksun &  most of all I can't stand her beetchiness especially towards her mother. Now if she finds out Doksun likes Sunwoo but he likes her instead,  I'm sure she'll gonna flaunts it at Doksun every chance she gets. If that happens future hubby & everyone on the block probably would have known who was Doksun first crush already

R97: YJ > SW > TW

R88: DS > SW > BR

I didn't finish watching R97, but SW did date TW at some point isn't it? When was it? When SW has started working? How did SW end up with YJ in the end? YJ liked SW since high school just like DS isn't it? So here's hoping R88 would follow a similar path like R97? Besides the one in the middle also has the same initial (minus the surname & gender). 

And Taek could be the next JH?  Nah just kidding.

Bora does have a chance to die,or bora could actually be the catalyst to bring the change in sw and his whole attitude towards deok sun.Also,as @kaykafisyah sed,both of the siblings before had died already when the series started,but here the case is a bit different.Bora has been here from day 1 so I doubt if they'll kill her.The writer just does not want to change all her previous attachments lol.

I tragically hope that you are wrong, skelly unnie, regarding SW's crush for BR. BR is very rude to DS and I think SW saw that. If they are friends how can he be ok with BR's mistreatment to DS? I don't like BR much.

Plus, for the past four episodes unlike in the previous installments nothing major happened. Right? And also, no major life-changing character died this time. I think this time is really different. Hope its not a bad thing.

All those girls wanting to shake hands with our GGP!!!! The black shirt one is RJY. I think at that time he wasn't very popular as compared to GGP. But now I guess all the girls are all over him because of his character. It's okay. Now we can have all GGP for ourselves

Just wondering which part exactly that implied SW is interested in BR, beside of cos the preview where omma Sung asked SW if he had seen BR? 

I just started watching R88 very recently & I basically marathon all 4 ep within a day,  but I never get any vibe that SW is into BR. All the 4 boys have possible chance too end up with DS... but among all I think SW is the one that has leave the most subtle sign that he likes DS. 

Unlike JH who's like  'Bam! I like DS ' after his body was pressed closely against hers &  his body reacted to it! I mean physically reacted to hers. Check out when DS sudden surprised as her gaze move down towards JH lower body part, then she was all awkward not knowing where to look & how to move. All these while he  sees her as one of the guys, so it really surprised him, however that's not love,  its physical reaction/attraction.  

Unlike JH, SW has been leaving subtle clues on liking DS. For example,

1) When they did the talent show for DS. DR did it becos he was bribe to meet 'Joey Wang' & 'Maggie Cheung', JH has no choice but to do it becos DS held his expensive liquor as ransom but SW did it with his own freewill,  risking his reputation as the class/ school president. SW even concerned that BR might took away DS's Walkman. Can't imagine he thinks so poorly of a woman he likes, if he truly likes BR.

2) SW came looking for DS everytime he needs stationery supply when he can easily gets it from JH or DR. The guys are richer than DS. I don't think it was an excuse to see BR becos how wud he knows when BR wud be at home. Most of the time he wud yell for her from outside. Its only by chance he'd be ask to come in. Moreover BR is a university student, how can he be sure if she's in or not. Also if he truly wants to see her isn't it better if he goes to see her directly to ask abt subjects solving problems instead? 

One thing that  many feel he's interested in Bora is because he was looking at her washing her hair while he waited for DW to come out. Cmmon she was squatting ungraciously while her hair & part of her face covered with soap, isn't exactly a beautiful sightmust! But nyone passing tru wud be looking at her weirdly.  And if BR has a slightest interest at SW,  she surely wudnt want him to see her as such.

3) I actually agree with DS's friends. At the restaurant SW was paying extra attention to her on top of being attentive & having unnecessary skinship.

4) When JH was indifferent abt DS being chosen as the picket girl, we find out from SW's omma that DS was  one of 3  high schoolers out 167 selected girls which she found out from SW.  Sung family never mention abt it, also JH's mom didn't know it too. So it looks like SW kinda proud of DS being  selected as the picket girl as he talk impressively abt her to his mom.

5) Tuition session...we eventually know the tuition was truly meant for DS. Its Kim omma discreet way to help out the Sungs, just like she discreetly gave money for DS overnight trip. DS has been nagging for a tutor they cant afford. By making everyone come DS has no choice but to join while BR has to teach properly since she's being paid. Tru out the session there wasn't any unnecessary glances from SW to BR but there were many sweet smile exchange between SW & DS. And when JH sarcastically made a thumbs up to DS becos she got 'We, our, us, ours'  right, SW chuckled but he nudged JH to stop teasing DS. To me that scene is very sweet. 

6 ) Least but not last ep4 ending preview when Sung Omma asked SW if he has seen BR. I don't get it why everyone assume they were on a date or confession or even together? From the preview we saw BR was involved in some kind of student activist or sumthing & she seems to have injured herself. Now on another scene we saw SW was running while carrying JH on his back, assuming in was an emergency since DR ran ahead to clear their path.  Thus we cud assume the boys took JH to thhe hospital & when SW came home Sung Omma asked him if he has seen Bora....at the hospital since she was injured too, that perhaps SW saw her there when he sent JH to the hospital!  At least that's what came to mind when I saw the preview. 

Honestly watching the first time it never cross my mind SW has any interest in BR. Watching it again after going thru the thread I still can't see he show any interest for BR.

@lxands Your post deserves some real praise ,for finding out that many points when we've already hit the end of the road.About the no.6 point,it was actually jh who carries sunwoo on his back and rush to the hospital..I'm assuming it's the reebok dance attempt which makes him dislocate his bone or something...I think this episode would be focused on bora,hence everyone is talking about bora..example:sun woo's mom,everyone is assuming because she does not like bora that much,it would be interesting to see how that work out for sun woo household,but I think everyone already sed how bora is making a mess out of everything,so I don't see anything extra special about it.Also,some people are really rooting for bora-sunwoo because of a magazine photo shoot that happened some months back,but just because that shoot came out electric/or photogenic,doesn't mean they should be a pair here too,or that logic does not make sense either.By now everything starting from color to character title,or the root korean word meanings have been scrutinized so much,that I'm sure even the writer himself must have not invested these much in the process in the first place.
