SHINee’s Jonghyun has taken to his Twitter to vocalize his opinion on controversial topics concerning government matters. He wrote, “Lowering the starting school age to promote childbirth…producing a government issued textbook… With such policies, I am losing my confidence to have children who can grow into adults with healthy minds and bodies. I am not […]

i think that before anyone take a stand with or against Jonghyun, one should watch the news and know the situation in South Korea first

i disagree with Jonghyun
i watch Arirang News and other Korean news as well.
I watch and decide what i believe in, not what the reporter reporte.
even in the US, news show are either too rightist or leftist, i just took the thing that fit my belief

History Textbook: North and South Korea are still technically at war, Japanese government still denied what happens in Asian-Pacific between 1910-1945, also too many leftist are controlling the education system and education show be neutral
Childcare: South Koreans are getting older and less babies are being born

I live in the US. Single and still going to college. I agree with the South Korean government about childcare. Life are getting harder, people don't want to have allot of kids like the past.

China's not owning up about it's past with Hong Kong's citizens as well.

Nothing good ever comes with government sticking its nose in education. Guess our history will now be cherry picked like so many other Asian nations.
I think its time to consider relocating.

No offense, but I don't think you really understand what's really going on here. PGH's dad Park Jung Hee was a freakin dictator and she basically wants to rewrite history, particularly domestic affairs where her dad violated the people's civil/human rights.

As for reducing school age, that's the stupidest, most short-sighted policy I have ever heard of. Kudos to the comment saying the government should instead focus on childcare and maternity leave policies as well as eliminating gender discrimination.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you're saying here. I agree with your comment regarding most of the US media, but listening only to the reports that fit your beliefs --- ideology --- is not a good thing. Any of us can hold a viewpoint that may not be based on concrete factual reality and we should be open to change our minds when confronted with sound, reasonable evidence based on facts. The problem is recognizing what is factual, especially if it doesn't support our current system of belief. But it's the responsibility of an adult to do his or her due diligence in trying to ascertain what is fact and what is bull-poop.

With that said, I applaud Jonghyun. If the translation of his tweet is accurate, he comes across as a young man who has done some thinking on his position and stated his opinion reasonably. It's not whether I agree or disagree, because frankly who am I to even weigh in on these topics? But knowing that young celebrities in any part of this world are using their heads AND their celebrity to motivate others to think critically about their surroundings makes me think that this world has some hope after all. The world continues to "shrink" as our safety issues and economies become increasingly intertwined so the generations coming up should be encouraged to use their minds and their voices worldwide.

I only know you from reading your comments here on this forum, but I truly hope you are not seriously considering this. I believe your country needs you! :)

"With the average age of graduates entering their first jobs [...] rising, the ruling party made the connection that the occurrence of late marriages and low fertility is consequentially decreasing." *INcreasing, guys. It makes no sense for it to be a problem if the occurrence of low fertility is decreasing.

Right.. I am also confused about how the school age law would be an effective policy. Clearly, an aging population isn't something that "kids being born 3 years earlier than they would have been" would solve.. People still need to feel secure socially and financially to actively try for kids.
