Most K-pop fans know Choi Siwon as the handsome visual of popular boy band Super Junior. However, the talented singer actually made his acting debut in a small cameo a year before Super Junior’s official debut. Since then, Siwon has gone on to act in numerous dramas and films in Korea, China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. […]

Who are you to tell him to 'stick to' this or that. You are not even worth judging him like that.

I have tried to watch all of this drama and I can honestly say he's not my favorite singer turn actor. In other words, he's looks wins more than his acting style. His acting feels rather too dramatic, like he's acting rather than natural. I just finish watch a drama and i cried and I am not one to cry but it felt natural rather than acted.

I am judging because, i am not an actor but I am a watcher and I believe than actors act so that viewers can judge and accept their acting and i believe we have the right to judge more than the actor, writers, directors, producer and ever crew that created a drama.

Oh, dear..! If untalented idols-turned-actors were forbidden from K-dramaland, lots and lots of projects would have lost their financing, let alone a large number of their casts. However, CSW is one of the very, very few idols who can really act,- his comic timing, in particular, is quite rare among young actors/idol-actors whose their image and looks are No1 priority non-stop.

I agree with you. If you don't like him you certainly have the right to give your opinion and explain why.

Very well said. This is one of the few times I will disagree with you, however. My reasons for not liking him are more on the personal level however. We'll live it at that.

I disagree mostly. And so do a lot of people, including critics. Check out their recent reviews for "She Was Pretty." If you haven't seen him in anything recent, then I could understand your criticism (since you perhaps only saw him in roles from years ago when he was a rookie actor and still learning and growing). However, Siwon has really matured a lot as an actor and worked hard to learn from his seniors. As a result, he has become an in-demand actor around the world- that's how he has become so popular in China and Hong Kong, despite being a native Korean speaker. Am I saying he is the best actor in Korea? Of course not- Korea is blessed with many talented actors. However, I certainly don't believe you're justified in saying he can't act and needs to "stick to singing." There are several idols that I would probably say that about (since it's down right painful to watch their awkward acting and I feel embarrassed for them), but even then, I think people should pursue what makes them happy and what they enjoy learning. I truly do find Siwon very refreshing though because he isn't afraid to ruin his image in certain roles- his goofy, selfish, immature and slightly crazy role in "King of Dramas" was the first drama I really thought "Wow, Siwon is so good!" lol Why? Because that role was so opposite of his true character, but he played everything out so deliciously goofy and over-dramatically that he totally felt like that arrogant, spoiled, but loveable actor.... including that ridiculous laugh of his! LOL

Perfectly said! That's exactly what I enjoy about CSW's role (as I just stated in my own response to this reader). He is one of the only idol-turned-actors that doesn't care about protecting his image. If it's for the role, he is always happy to be goofy, slightly ridiculous, etc In addition, he totally gives it his all- which, as you said, usually comes out in his flair for comedic timing. Great comedic timing truly is a rare talent among young actors, but especially among those who are known for their visuals. They are generally too concerned with protecting their image that they become afraid to fully commit to the role and therefore lose out on the opportunity to be truly entertaining! ^^

Thanks for this article! I'm gonna watch all csw dramas once he enlists to pass the time. I'll miss him so much! He's doing great in 'She was Pretty"

I'm glad you enjoyed it! There are plenty of new movies of his as well, which will be released online within the next few months. He was also just in a movie with Hollywood actors Adrian Brody, John Cusack and Jackie Chan. All really great movies which have been very well-received, so check them out when they are released to DVD/online.

As I said to someone else, I can certainly agree with this about his earlier works. But I feel differently about his acting skills over the past few years. He has really studied hard and improved so much, and I think it is very evident. I think he always had a natural talent, but he was just lacking experience and training in this field. Thanks to his hard work and natural aptitude though, he has grown and improved so much- which is why he is now in demand for movies around the world. AS I just told someone else as well,he was even in a movie with Hollywood actors Adrian Brody (an Oscar-winner for Best Actor), John Cusack and Jackie Chan. So he has done very well for himself as an actor- all because he has worked hard and improved so much. So, check him out in more recent things! ^^ He tends to take on very funny roles in dramas where he can show his comedic side, but you can see a different side of him in most of his movies.

If your deep antipathy is made on the basis of his recent homophobic RTs, I can't say anything more since I've already stated my firm opinion on that thread. Nevertheless, this comment had nothing to do with CSW's personal beliefs; I find his RT stupid and presumptuous, at the very least, however, his talent is undeniable throughout the years,- I see where you're coming from, though....

I recently finished Oh! My Lady and thought it was pretty cute. I like Siwon, so it was kinda weird to watch him play a spoiled arrogant celebrity, since that seems so different from his real-life persona, but I thought he did a good job and he can be very funny!

re: Skip Beat, I feel I need to add a SPOILER ALERT--be prepared for a VERY open ending, it felt like they intended a Season 2 that never happened. I watched the first few episodes of Skip Beat (mainly for Siwon & Donghae!) and was a bit bored by it, so skipped to the ending to watch the last two episodes and was shocked at how at ended (and was glad I hadn't watched all the episodes in between, lol). People were so upset they were flipping tables in the comment section, lol.

I'll have to check out some of these other dramas, they sound good! :)
