It's normal in Korea to 'point things out' like that, like telling your friend they have a pimple or have gained weight is considered being helpful and caring. It of course sounds strange to westerners because that's considered insulting in some (in not many) of our cultures. I've seen some Koreans complain about it too (mostly among the newer generation), so it's not universally accepted, but it is a normal occurrence.
