Newsie Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 What makes a good K-pop song? In most fans’ cases, it helps if the track was recorded by an act you are enamored with (it’s certainly the only way I can justify the vast stash of Rainbow songs on my hard drive). But if you put aside personal preference for a moment and, to coin […]The post What Makes a Great K-Pop Beat? appeared first on Soompi.View the full article
AmaiStina Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 I've been listening to Kpop since 1998 and immediately felt that the music sounded different than that of American, Chinese/Taiwanese, or Japanese genres. But I couldn't put my finger on it. Sometimes when I listen to French pop (newer Alizee, Jenifer), I'm reminded of Kpop. Great article. I'm looking forward to your next installments.
Denali Posted September 4, 2015 Posted September 4, 2015 First of all, thank you @timmydee for your very detailed insight on music, yet again. Your article has somehow broaden our scope and grasp of k-pop.Initially I'd figured that my own reply to what makes a great kpop beat would be "a good drummer or several" (take les Tambours du Bronx for instance), but not in these days of digital music anymore. *sigh*
lash Posted September 5, 2015 Posted September 5, 2015 The real question is "Who makes a great Kpop beat" and the answer is Gray. :)
purplepanda Posted September 9, 2015 Posted September 9, 2015 I love the fast dance beat in so many Kpop songs! I guess I like both "real" drums and "synth" drums in KPop. Actually, I've been curious about what makes the drum sound in a lot of Kpop dance songs, and it was interesting to read about the computers & DAWs and the whole explanation of bpm. So thank you for an interesting and educational article! :)Also--this is a bit off topic, but maybe something for a future article--I've always been curious about how producers work in KPop songs. Like I know certain producers like "Brave Brothers" will produce a certain song (or entire album?) but can multiple producers work on the same album for an artist? How does that whole thing work? And an obscure question I've always wanted to ask: WHO is G-Thanks from Brave (I think that's the name? you can hear something that sounds like "G-Thanks from Brave" at the beginning of Teen Top's "Missing You" and "Hello", plus ZE:A's "Breathe." Just an odd KPop question I've been curious about. :)Very informative article and I'm looking forward to the next installments! :D
