Star producer Na Young-seok to launch new reality show

A new reality show “Shin Seoyuki” (working title) headed by star producer Na Young-seok is set to kick off in September on cable channel tvN. Members of the first season of ever-popular KBS reality show “2 Days & 1 Night” -- Kang Ho-dong, Lee Seung-gi, Eun Ji-won and Lee Soo-geun -- are set to reunite and thrill fans. 

Based on the 16th century’s Chinese novel “Journey to the West,” the show is set to reinterpret the story with a modern viewpoint, while traveling across the world. Previously on Aug. 6, the members headed to Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi Province, central China, and stayed there for five days to shoot the first episode of the show. 

“I could never sense the long gap,” said Na, adding, “We’ve added a game show concept to the show,” bringing up anticipation among fans. 

The show is set to be aired only on the Internet as part of a project run by tvN’s newly launched digital content brand “tvNgo.” The first episode is scheduled to hit the air in early September exclusively on Naver’s video streaming service “TV Cast.”

XiAn, Shaanxi Province, China. Strong Man Kang Ho Dong became ‘ice.’ He came, full of confidence, with a loud voice in front of the cameras, but whenever he received a mission, he got in a sweat about things like the language barrier. On the other hand, Lee Seung Gi, the maknae of 1N2D that ended in 2012, led the other members whenever an unexpected situation arose. ‘HeoDang’ SeungGi has become a pillar.

This is a filming BTS story told by Na Young Seok PD.

Only a few minutes after the fans got to the bus station, a bus pulled in. When the door opened, a girl jumped out saying amazedly that she actually sat on the same bus as Lee Seung Gi! So the fans knew they found the right bus. They then saw JiWon sitting in the last row, pointing in the fans’ direction, probably talking with SeungGi. Then SeungGi pulled the curtain aside, looked out, smiled at the fans, and went back to his seat. Unfortunately, the fan photographer didn’t capture that moment.

 

After everyone else got off the bus, JiWon walked to the door first and showed something to the bus stewardess, probably making sure they were at the right stop. He went back and the filming staff got off the bus, and then SeungGi followed. After he came out, the bus stewardess asked him for a selca together, and he struck a pose for her right away. After that, the staff pulled him away, and the stewardess was delirious (with happiness of course).

Then it took the direction-challenged SeungGi a while to figure out which way he was headed. After a few steps, they stopped at the taxi stand, and asked for directions. Then they kept walking, and stopped at a bus stop. After looking at the signs for a while, they continued walking. They stopped at the next bus stop, probably found the right bus, and waited there. But there wasn’t any bus after a long wait, so they hailed a taxi instead. After a few words with the driver, they got into the taxi. The staff hailed another taxi, and they drove off. The fans didn’t know where they went after that. To be continued…

Na Young Suk Describes Kang Ho Dong and Lee Seung Gi on “The New Journey to the West”

Producer Na Young Suk described Kang Ho Dong and Lee Seung Gi, who he worked with on “The New Journey to the West.”

The upcoming travel reality show starring the original members of “1 Night 2 Days,” which is set to air at the beginning of September through Naver TV Cast, is especially gaining attention since it is Lee Soo Geun‘s first project back after being involved in a gambling controversy in 2013.

Na Young Suk said that Kang Ho Dong will make things fun in the shoot which took place in Xian, Shaanxi in China. He said that when the members were put into a foreign country, new sides of them came out.

It was also relayed that Kang Ho Dong kept his conversational Mandarin textbook in his bag and learned as much as he could. Na Young Suk said, “Kang Ho Dong told me at first that he thought Chinese characters were pictures. Over the years on broadcast, starting off with his past as an athlete, he got the image of being an airhead. But this time, I think he studied the language a lot. He can speak Chinese slowly.” He added that the language barrier was difficult to get over, but Kang Ho Dong was cut out for China.

He also relayed that Lee Seung Gi stepped up to the plate and became the natural leader of the team, showing off his intelligence.

According to tvN, New Journey to the West production crew and members will make their first official appearance through a press conference to be held at 63 Convention Center on the afternoon of September 1.

Kang Ho Dong (Zhu Bajie), Lee Seung Gi (Xuanzang), Eun Ji Won (Sha Wujing), Lee Su Geun (Sun Wukong), along with PD Na Young Seok and writer Choi Jae Young will be in attendance.

Upcoming tvN variety program ‘New Journey to The West’ recently released their first video teaser through the NAVER website.

“New Journey to the West” Trailer Revealed

The first teaser of “New Journey to the West” was revealed through Naver. The four characters Kang Ho Dong, Lee Seung Gi, Eun Ji Won, and Lee Soo Geun seem to get along well with each other, as they are shown traveling Xi’an while playing various games. Lee Seung Gi is seen showing unexpected leadership towards his elder co-cast members, and Kang Ho Dong can be seen yelling out “Zhu Baijie”, which is the name of the pig in the novel “Journey to the west.”

“New Journey to the West” will have its cast play one of the characters from the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West.”

Lee Seung Gi plays Xuanzang (a Buddhist monk in the novel) and worries constantly about the monsters (referring to his co-cast members) who don’t listen to him, Lee Soo Geun plays Sun Wukong (a monkey character), Eun Ji Won plays Sha Wujing (a celestial being), and Kang Ho Dong plays Zhu Baijie (a pig character).

The members will travel China for five days, and as they are close friends who can read each others’ thoughts just by looking at each other, Producer Na Young Seok explained that they are “striving for the contents that everyone can enjoy.”
