[SOLVED] How do I embed a youtube video in a post

Guest yuan19900

Question

Guest yuan19900

I would like to know how to embed a youtube video in a post. I copied the code provided in youtube then in the post use the "<>" tool to paste the code.

Example: When I try here.... so you can see the issue I'm getting (below)

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/R9So0UDGFsw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

What am I doing wrong? Much appreciated for your help.

@CamelKnight

I've not had any problems embedding videos before by doing exactly what you've been advising those who've asked here,
but for some reason or other, it hasn't worked at all for the last week.
Any idea what's wrong?

Dunno. Let's see if it works for me:

All I did was go to the video, recopy the link and add it again to this message, then hit enter. Could you try again? See if it works for you too?

As you can see, it doesn't work for me.
I've been doing what you did on this new site without any problems until last week,
but it's not working for me anymore.

Would be nice if we could have a button like the one we have to insert an image for embedding videos,
at least those newbies won't have to ask around or hunt for this thread.

This new site is nothing but a pain to use.
Although clearing the cache does partially solve the sign in problem
we still get redirected all over the place or back to the sign in page again.

Once in, the connection to the site is unstable and just to make sure
I don't end up with a page that indicates that I'm not even signed in,
I resort to opening the page I want in a new tab.
It takes at least the 3rd tab to not get a guest user message.

If I continue to type here, it's a matter of time before the cursor slows down or the page hangs.
This makes typing a long post nothing but a trial.
I did the recap for a daily drama last year (translating from Korean to English)
and suffered through 6 bloody months of posts that either went missing
or the site hanging on me MULTIPLE times while typing it (and mind you, I only had one tab open).
I've just about had it with this site.

Why are we being forced to jump through so many hoops just to post something here?
Before the software update in Dec, the only major problem is with the slow/hung page and tagging someone,
now, the sign in is dodgy and the connection rubbish with only the tagging problem solved.

@ggry When I click your link, then copy the link into the post and hit enter, I get the above. Could you try it like that? See if that works?

When I edit your post and hit enter behind the link, it doesn't work for me either. Dunno what that's all about though. Might be a problem with editing.

@CamelKnight

Well, this is an entirely new post and it still doesn't work.
I clicked on the link, the YT page opened, I copied the link from YT,
pasted it here as an entirely new line, hit Enter without any space right after the link and the preview didn't show up,
which is as good an indication that it's not embedded. I even tried it with another new line.

It's a pity this new site doesn't have the old show code option.
It would be easier to just edit from there and embed the video.
Incidentally, what does the <> button do? All it says is 'code'.

Seriously, why don't we have a Insert Video under the Insert other media option?
It would spare the newbies having to ask around how to embed a video.

@ggry you can still look at the source code and edit it, next to your profile pic in a new post is the font-stuff. First button is "Source" :)

Some features on this forum do seem a bit buggy.

@Hanyeoun any idea why the video is not showing for ggry? I've noticed that the @ function to mention users doesn't work everytime either. Sometimes it just doesn't load a list.

About the adding of the video to "Insert other media", do you know if that's possible?

Thanks for your replies.

Calling this site 'buggy' is a gross understatement, it's a bloody mess, considering the other problems that plague users here.

The two of you might want to know that this page hung on me while I was typing this post.
It happens very often and is a total pain when typing any post that's long, especially when it's been going on for well over 6 months already.
With the software upgrade in Dec, it has gone from bad to worse. The pages tend to load without having you signed in.
I couldn't access this thread at all for hours yesterday as although I'm signed in, the moment I click the link for it,
the page loads but I can't reply as it shows that I'm not signed in.

It's actually possible to get it to work if you know its user-UNfriendly quirks.

If you can get the first tag to work on a new line, the second tag should work,
but if it doesn't, do it on a new line, if it doesn't work, start on another new line.
Sooner or later, it'll work.

The speed at which you type also decides whether you'll get the tagging to work.
You can't type too fast.

One of the things I HATE about this new site is how it's impossible to type fast as the cursor gradually slows down when your post is long.
Before you know it, the page will hang on you.

@ggry I don't want to turn this into a bash fest. The problems you've described aren't problems I myself am experiencing and I'm a fast typer. Also, considering the low amounts of feedback we're receiving about problems with the forum these days, I doubt the problems are as severe as you describe. If others experience problems like yours too, I would love to see some feedback on it so we can do something about it. For now I've mostly seen some individual problems which were relatively easily solved with some tweaks on the user's end (most notably deleting cookies/browserhistory).

But again, I don't want to turn this into a bash fest. I'd rather solve problems. I'm much better in it :)

The problems you're describing, have you tried a different browser and updated it properly? Updated your OS (Windows/Mac/Unix) too?

I'm with this poster @ggry!!  Whether I use Microsoft Edge, Microsoft IE 11, or Chrome ~ all updated as per your query, ~  sometimes it is impossible to type quickly.  The cursor hangs, skips, jumps back, or the whirly timer just whirls and whirls.  I have NO idea why I am able to type this at a normal speed now.  This morning (my time, I am in the Eastern U.S.) typing 3 sentences took me 20 minutes.  Frustration is frequent as often many of us have a short time to post due to job and family and other life considerations.  Calling our complaints a bash-fest is completely undeserved.  My  Edge browser has not changed since this morning, yet here I am typing at almost normal speed.  But......Just for a minute there, the whirly timer came on and things ground to a halt.

It's really great that you are not experiencing these problems, but what exactly is your job, your function in answering these posts?  If you would rather solve problems than engage in a bash-fest, why not try solving some of these problems???  What are you doing that many of us are not?

You made a good start when asking about browsers......but that is basically small potatoes.  Does the time of day have anything to do with the problem?  And the time of day in what part  of the world?

Your condescension in answering these questions in indefensible just because you don't see millions of similar complaints.  Want to know why you don't?  Because once one of us gets stopped by the dreaded "cursor slowdown" phenon...............................

Phenomenon, at least for me, I would rather stick knitting needles in both eyes than try to spend literally hours trying to type one word of complaint or discussion about what is wrong with Soompi. To finish this post (it froze on the word phenomenon) I had to resort to typing in an office-type document that did not freeze every minute and then cutting and pasting to the Soompi site.

So glad that many of you have no problems, or at least don't report them, but if you actually want to save your jobs, reputations, and goodwill, you might want to actually get to the root of the problem. If there is really nothing you can do about it, then be a standup person and SAY SO!

I love(d) the site, but it is impossible to maintain any semblance of good-will when some of us are taken as just “bashers.”

And don't even go to the "clear cache and browers" defense.  I did that when Soompi wouldn't let me log on for a few days.  Clearing cache screwed up my banking sites, helped with logging on Soompi, but did NOTHING for the slow typing/hanging problem.

@MyStars Please don't twist my words around. I literally said "I don't want to turn this into a bash fest". Nowhere did I say that you, or any other user of this forum is a basher or that your complaints are a bash fest. I rather solve problems than be bickering over some idiotic argument. I have better things to do with my life. As you may or may not know, I'm doing this on a purely voluntary basis. I don't get any pay for it and I wouldn't want to. I'm here because I like helping people and I like Korean music and drama's. So why not combine the two?
I'm definately not condescending towards ANY problem. If you've even taken the time to read through this part of the forum, you would actually find I reply quickly and at the best of my ability to solve problems. I'm actually a little offended that you would say I'm condescending, but I digress. I'd rather solve problems.

Apparently, clearing cache and cookies, the first basic step, did not solve your issues unfortunately.
Can you tell me what the load is on your RAM/Disk usage/CPU and internet connection while typing on Soompi?
Is Soompi the only site you're visiting? If not, could you try to exclude other sites from being a problem? I'm  not saying another site is causing this issue for you, but I do want to rule that possibility out. The first thing you have to do to solve any problem is go to the core of the problem.
Do you have any other programs running? How does Soompi respond when you close those too?
How are sites like Facebook, Instagram and cnn.com working for you?
Are you experiencing similar problems on other forums?

Urghhhn now it doesn't work for me. It used to work after I hit enter. Is there another way out? Thanks.

Nope. Only way is to enter the link and hit enter. You might want to try it on a new line instead of behind some sentence.
