Yoo Jae Suk's Private Donations to Comfort Women Charity Revealed

It has been revealed that national MC Yoo Jae Suk has been donating a large amount of money to a charity dedicated to the support of "comfort women," a euphemistic term used for those who were forced into sexual servitude and manual labor by the Japanese army before and during World War II. Ahn Shin Kwon, head of the charity House of Sharing which provides welfare facilities to living comfort women in South Korea, described Yoo Jae Suk’s generous contributions on his personal Twitter on June 22. “Broadcaster Yoo Jae Suk has donated 20 million won (approximately $18,000 USD) to help construct our memorial to the Japanese military’s comfort women victims and 20 million won in welfare aid for the comfort women victims, donating a total of 40 million won,” he wrote. “He also donated 20 million won in July of 2014, making his total donations to date 60 million won (approximately $54,000 USD)," he added. Ahead of this announcement, it was previously revealed that Yoo Jae Suk’s show “Infinity Challenge” had donated 25 million won (approximately $22,000 USD) to the charity. House of Sharing made a separate announcement about that act of generosity, saying, “MBC’s ‘Infinity Challenge’ has provided us with funds that it has accrued through the sale of albums and other means and has requested that we use the money for the elderly comfort women victims of the Japanese military.” Source: (1)
