Newsie Posted May 15, 2015 Posted May 15, 2015 If you like K-pop and K-dramas, you've probably noticed your favorite stars wearing lip tints, most likely in the form of a gradient lip. What are lip tints? Lip tints are actually lip stains that come in matte or glossy finishes. The liquid product stains your lips for long-lasting color while remaining light and comfortable on your lips. They are extremely popular in Korea and worldwide because they are versatile and easy to apply. With one lip tint, you can achieve three different lip looks like the ones pictured below! Whether you prefer super natural colors or full coverage, lip tints can work for you. So how do you apply lip tints? The most popular way of applying is in the form of a gradient lip. I recommend applying lip balm first, preferably one with SPF. Then dot a little bit of the tint in the center of your lips and blend with your fingers. Make sure most of the color is concentrated in the center so that you can achieve the coveted "just-bitten" or popsicle-stained look. There are different methods you can use to apply lip tints, one can develop their own technique with experience. You can even use lip tints on your cheeks if you're in a hurry! Korean lip tints actually encompass a broad range of formats. There are so many different types of tints on the market and it just seems to continue to be growing. To make it easier for you, we have categorized them in chronological order (the order in which these types of tints were released). This article will cover liquid lip tints. If you’re interested in tinted lip balms and lipsticks, stay tuned for a future article! Best Water Lip Tint Water lip tints are the OG! These lip stains are watery and layerable. Water lip tints are the best choice for those who prefer minimal color. However, it is possible to layer on a water lip tint for a deeper, more vivid lip color. They don’t have a glossy finish, so they appear the most natural, but they're not at all moisturizing, so make sure you apply lip balm beforehand. We recommend international bestseller Peripera’s water lip tint due to its formula, color payoff, and packaging! All water lip tints are essentially similar, but we keep coming back to this one. This pink one looks red in the bottle, but looks really light and natural on the lips. Apply more coats for a deeper pink. Peripera Water Lip Tint Best Gel Lip Tint The jelly-like texture is also comfortable to wear and easy to apply. These tend to be more pigmented than watery lip tints, but less pigmented than creamy lip tints. Gel lip tints offer a glossier finish than water lip tints, but the shine can wear off somewhat quickly. Our recommendation goes to Etude House for the best gel lip tint. Etude House in general makes great lip tint products. Their "Dear Darling" lip tint is effortless and beautiful. Etude House Dear Darling Tint Best Creamy Lip Tint Creamy lip tints are best for those who want good color payoff and serious lasting power. Even within the creamy lip tint category there are some that are more watery and some that are creamier. Generally, the more watery a lip tint, the less pigmentation and staying power it has. Also, creamier lip products can be less moisturizing. A great long-lasting creamy lip tint we have tried is Etude House’s Rosy Lip Tint! It comes with a handy sponge tip applicator that makes it easier to blend without having to use your fingers. This particular product results in a natural matte look. If you prefer a glossy shine, try applying a clear or sheer lip gloss on top of it. Etude House Rosy Tint Lips Best Oil Lip Tint Oil lip tints are the newest addition to the tint family. You will definitely be seeing more cosmetic brands make their own versions in the months to come. They offer the most moisture out of the bunch, making it ideal for individuals with dry lips or during dry seasons. Oil lip tints provide a nice glossy sheen that fades over time while the stain remains. I recommend this for individuals with sensitive lips. Shake the product to combine the oil and lip color and apply. You can also customize the oil ratio depending on how dry your lips are as well! Tony Moly Babyface Oil Drop Tint and Cherry Lip Balm Best Lip Tint Value Set Maybe you’re already a lover and collector of lip tints, or maybe you're interested in trying them out.
