Newsie
Comedians Jang Dong Min, Yoo Se Yoon, and Yoo Sang Moo (known as "Ongdalsaem") held a press conference to publicly apologize for their past remarks. On April 28, the three comedians held a last-minute press conference to address the recent controversies that garnered attention for the trio's past remarks on their podcast program, "Ongdalsaem and Dreaming Radio." Jang Dong Min said, "I know whatever I say is not going to be enough. I interacted closely with my listeners while making the program. I wanted to talk closer to them. My words became harsher as I was only thinking about making them laugh, and I began to look for more shocking things to say. I didn't know that those words would be hurtful to some. I was only thinking about being funny. I apologize for my careless behaviors. I want to apologize to the people and their families who were hurt by what we have said." He further added, "I am not doing this for the lawsuit. I wanted to say my apologies. If there is a police investigation, I will cooperate. And if I'm given a punishment, I will gladly accept." Previously, the excerpts of the trio's misogynistic comments on their podcast last year resurfaced when Jang Dong Min was a contestant to be a member of "Infinity Challenge." Then came the defamation lawsuit for Jang Dong Min's inaccurate comments regarding a Sampoong Department Store survivor. At the time, he was talking about health clubs, and said, "That woman who was rescued 21 days after the Sampoong Department Store collapse also survived by drinking her own urine. She's the founder of that movement!" Attorney Sun Jong Moon announced on behalf of the survivor who sued the comedian, "[My client] survived a life-and-death situation and her traumatic experience was used for comic relief. She was also shocked at the offensive images they conveyed through the gross inaccurate portrayal of her story." Moreover, during their podcast, Yoo Sang Moo has at one point said, "I will get hallucinogens ready when a woman I like comes over," and Yoo Se Yoon has made derogatory comments about people with disabilities, mimicking certain behaviors. The trio also brought up victims of bullying in one of the episodes, saying, "There's a reason why [the victims] get bullied. It's because they have no sense." Since being sued, Jang Dong Min has been taken off air from his radio show with Lady Jane. Regarding their current programs, all three stated that they will leave it up to the production teams of their shows to determine whether they will be taken off air or kept.
