“Nation’s group” g.o.d will attend a major music awards ceremony with all five members for the first time in 13 years. The five g.o.d members, Park Joon Hyung, Danny Ahn, Yoon Kye Sang, Son Ho Young, and Kim Tae Woo, will attend the 4th Gaon Chart K-pop Awards together on January 28. g.o.d debuted in 1999 and swept many award shows over the years, solidifying their status as the “nation’s group.” The last time the group was together at a music awards show was in December 2002, so g.o.d fans are understandably excited about their upcoming appearance. After Yoon Kye Sang left the group, g.o.d performed as a four-member group until 2005. Nine years later, in July 2014, the group released their eighth album, as a five-member group, which did very well. The pre-released single off of that album, “The Lone Duckling,” swept several music charts. In July 2014, for the 15th anniversary of their debut, the five members toured five cities in Korea, with 70,000 fans attending concerts. They performed an encore concert in October 2014, which 40,000 fans attended. The concerts were a huge success, proving their lasting popularity even 15 years after joined the music scene. Fans are curious to see if g.o.d will be able to beat idol groups for an award at the Gaon Chart K-pop Awards. Also expected to attend are Super Junior, EXO, WINNER, Block B, BTS, KARA, 2NE1, Girl’s Day, SISTAR, A Pink, AOA, EXID, Mamamoo, Im Chang Jung, Epik High, Junggigo, San E, Park Bo Ram, and others, representing various musical genres. Super Junior’s Leeteuk and Girl’s Day’s Hyeri will be hosting the event. Like in previous years, the Gaon Chart K-pop Awared will not only recognize performers but will award the efforts of those behind the scenes, such as songwriters, composers, choreographers, and stylists. Awards are determined by data on digital and album sales compiled by Gaon Chart.
