MBC has announced that MC the Max’s vocalist Lee Soo will no longer be appearing on “I Am a Singer 3.”

On January 22, MBC released a statement regarding their decision to remove Lee Soo from the singing competition, saying, “Because of the respect we have for our audience, we have made the decision to remove singer Lee Soo from ‘I Am a Singer 3.’” We hope that you are able to understand and continue to support us as we strive to create a program for everyone to enjoy.”

Following his dismissal from the show, a representative of Lee Soo’s camp fired back at MBC, saying, “We heard about the decision through the news. We cannot understand MBC’s one-sided decision in this instance, as a fixed contract was set to begin tomorrow (January 23). In short, this is an unbelievable situation. We will be following up with MBC immediately.”

MBC’s decision to dismiss Lee Soo comes after the announcement of his participation in the show resulted in a large public backlash. The controversy stems from a 2009 incident when he was allegedly involved with an underaged girl in a prostitution ring. Lee Soo had already participated in filming for the first episode of the show.

With Lee Soo departing, the singers left on the show are Park Jung Hyun, Yangpa, So Chan Hui, Sistar’s Hyorin, Ha Dong Kyun, and Sweet Sorrow. The first episode is set to air on January 30 and the series will consist of 13 episodes in total.
