New "Shine or Go Crazy" Posters Featuring Jang Hyuk Released

New posters for MBC’s upcoming drama “Shine or Go Crazy” featuring the show’s star, Jang Hyuk, have been released.

The posters feature a charismatic Jang Hyuk, sword in hand, portraying his character, Prince Wang So. The character of Wang So is actually based on a real Goryeo king, Gwang Jong, and through Jang Hyuk’s portrayal we get a glimpse of how he may have actually looked.

Jang Hyuk’s various poses also seem to capture the duality of his character. Historically, King Kwang Jong was beloved for his introduction of laws to free slaves and his institution of meritocratic appointment to government positions. However, his rule was also marked by much bloodshed as he sought to strengthen royal power by purging influential aristocrats. In fact, the first syllable of Kwang Jong’s name, “Kwang,” can be interpreted as meaning both “light” and “crazy,” serving as inspiration for the drama’s title.

“Shine or Go Crazy” is a historical romance based on the novel by the same name. The drama revolves around the love story of a cursed Goryeo prince, Wang So, and Shin Yool, the princess of Balhae who narrowly escapes death leaving her homeland to come to Goryeo. The show premieres on January 19 at 10 p.m. KST.
