Boy band Super Junior has reached the top of Japanese chart compilers Oricon’s Weekly Singles Chart. The group has scored a number one spot with its sixth Japanese single “Mamacita - Ayaya,” which was released on December 17. A news item on the official Oricon website explained, “This is Super Junior’s first Number One on the Weekly Singles Chart. The boy band’s last Japanese release was the single album ‘Blue World,’ which was a hit in 2013.” Super Junior has maintained a high level of popularity among Japanese K-pop enthusiasts, and a series of concerts held in Japanese cities earlier this year saw a total of 280,000 fans in attendance. Meanwhile, the boys will have a busy start to 2015, and are set to perform in Bangkok, Thailand on January 10 and 11 as part of the “Super Junior World Tour Super 6 in Bangkok” event.
