Figures were released by Nielsen Korea, an organization that monitors viewer rates, showing that 7.1 percent of Korean viewers tuned in to watch the show’s first episode on November 19. According to Nielsen Korea, “The King’s Face” finished in third place, behind MBC’s “Mr Baek,” which got a viewer rating of 11.2 percent, as well as SBS’s “Pinocchio,” which notched up a 9.4 percent rating. Journalists and web users alike have been quick to praise the performance of singer-actor Seo In Guk, who is starring in “The King’s Face” as a prince called Gwanghae. A journalist in media outlet Chosun wrote, “In the first episode of the drama, Seo In Guk successfully showed a wide range of emotions.
