Newsie
WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD – read on at your own risk! It was a bittersweet ending for fans of “It’s Okay, It’s Love,” as it brought both tears and smiles. Thankfully, the drama had an absolutely adorable happy ending, but it was still sad to think that we would no longer have Jae Yeol (Jo In Sung) and Hae Soo (Gong Hyo Jin) to wait for every week. To make everyone feel a little better, here is a Drama Awards dedicated to "It's Okay, It's Love" to celebrate the drama that made us happy, made us sad, and made us appreciate love for the past three months. First, the "Best Fight" award... 1. Best Fight Award goes to… Hae Soo and Jae Yeol Episode 1: Debate scene It starts to heat up with their first meeting. Hae Soo has to fill in for Dong Min (Sung Dong Il) as a psychiatrist on a talk show debate, where she talks about the human instincts and behavior with thriller author Jae Yeol. Their views on the topic clash, and they end up having a battle of pride. Though it was a heated argument between the two, viewers can sense a kind of connection between the two, as Jae Yeol starts to flirt a little bit, and Hae Soo amusingly rejects him. Next, the award for the "Best Plot Twist"... 2. Best Plot Twist Award goes to… Jae Yeol and Kang Woo (D.O) Episode 4: Viewers find out that Kang Woo is Jae Yeol’s hallucination This scene has become a legend in the drama world, since no one expected it. Sure there were some that were kind of skeptical of Kang Woo’s character, but who would’ve thought that he was Jae Yeol’s imaginary friend? The scene gave everyone a wakeup call, and forced everyone to pay more attention to the details of the drama. Another surprising aspect of the drama related to this scene is the fact that EXO’s D.O, who played the role of Kang Woo, had a more critical role in the drama than expected. When idols normally start to act for the first time, it is unusual to give them such an important role. But D.O pulled it off marvelously—some people didn’t know he was an idol. Another scene that was close to winning this one was when viewers end up finding out that Jae Yeol’s mother is actually the murderer and not his older brother, Jae Bum. But it wasn’t able to surpass the shock that everyone received when Jae Yeol was revealed to be happily running alone, perfectly content and thinking he was actually running with Kang Woo. Next, the award for the "Best Quote"... 3. Best Quote Award goes to… Young Jin (Jin Kyung) Episode 9: Young Jin and Hae Soo have a conversation regarding Hae Soo’s new relationship One of the deepest quotes of the drama is when Young Jin consoles Hae Soo: “It’s everyone’s first time in this life, so it’s inevitable that we aren’t perfect, and that’s why we are pitiable, and that’s why we can make some mistakes…” It really makes one think about the past and how the current society lives. We are all so busy and focused on living a perfect life, when we actually have to realize that every individual only has one life, and there’s no right or wrong way to live it. It gives the viewers the thought to just stop a moment and think about going a little slower, and accept the fact that mistakes are inevitable. Next, the award for "Best Soundtrack"... 4. Best Soundtrack Award goes to… EXO’s Chen Title: “The Greatest Luck” Released in the beginning stages of the drama, this track fit so well into multiple situations when played in the background. It’s a song that professes love towards the counterpart, comparing her to the greatest luck of all. It seems like a ballad but has a hopeful and bright tone, which in the end, sums up Jae Yeol and Hae Soo’s relationship perfectly, as they were the perfect match for each other. Next, the award for the "Happiest Moment"... 5. Happiest Moment Award goes to… Jae Yeol and Hae Soo (of course) Episode 16: After being reunited, Hae Soo and Jae Yeol are going to have a little junior! After many ups and downs in their relationship, the two are finally married and will be expecting a child. They still live in the same house as Soo Kwang (Lee Kwang Soo) and Dong Min. The ending just made a warm and cute moment that made everyone feel all fuzzy inside. Jae Yeol is especially ecstatic about having a child, and they receive warm congratulations from their housemates. It was a nice gift from the writer to the viewers. Who wouldn’t like a happy ending? Next, the award for the "Tear Jerker"... 6. Tear Jerker Award goes to… Hae Soo Episode 14: Jae Yeol gets into an accident and Hae Soo breaks down as she first-handedly witnesses the severity of Jae Yeol’s schizophrenic symptoms This was a sad, sad day for all Hae Soo-Jae Yeol fans. After spending the night together, Jae Yeol gets a call from Kang Woo, who hints that he will be committing suicide soon. Jae Yeol, in order to find Kang Woo, drives around searching for his friend. He eventually gets into an accident, but as he lies on the ground he sees an injured Kang Woo. Hae Soo arrives at the scene, worried that Jae Yeol is severely hurt. Yet, Jae Yeol only points towards Kang Woo. Seeing Jae Yeol point towards empty space, Hae Soo sobs and accepts the fact that he must be hospitalized before he does any more damage to himself. As Hae Soo cried with Jae Yeol in her arms, so did the viewers. Next, the award for the "Best Non-lead Couple"... 7. Best Non-lead Couple Award goes to… Soo Kwang and Mi Nyeo (Lee Sung Kyung)! Though this was a difficult choice against the Soo Kwang-Jae Yeol bromance, this couple brought a little bit of light into a dark plot. Soo Kwang’s positive energy always made viewers feel a little better about the serious situation. Though there were times when he was sad with his own wounds, he never lost hope and became a character that Jae Yeol could depend upon. His one-sided love towards Mi Nyeo is both sad and adorable at the same time, and it brought smiles when he was finally able to get Mi Nyeo to like him back. This couple also helped each other—Soo Kwang with Mi Nyeo’s conduct disorder and Mi Nyeo with Soo Kwang Tourette’s Syndrome. Next, the award for the "Best Chemistry"... 8. Best Chemistry Award goes to… the writer, Noh Hee Kyung, and the actors Though on-screen chemistry is definitely important for the flow of the drama, everything wouldn’t be possible without the skills of the writer. And unlike most of the dramas that air these days, Noh Hee Kyung had already finished writing the drama before they went into production. And she was amazing at finding what kind of character each individual actor and actress would be able to portray. Of course, it helped that it wasn’t the first time she has worked with the two leads. If there isn’t that connection between the actors and the writer, “It’s Okay, It’s Love” may have ended up being another typical drama. “It Okay, It’s Love” has been one of the most unusual yet refreshing dramas of the year. It was questionable at first whether the plot would appeal to the public, but because of the deeper messages on human nature many viewers were able to connect to the drama. The topic of mental illnesses is one that is sensitive, and Noh Hee Kyung did so well in making it into a healing drama, and helped us understand a little bit as to what these patients are going through. Jae Yeol and Hae Soo could have easily been characters that ended up being disliked by the viewers if portrayed differently. However, Jo In Sung and Gong Hyo Jin pulled it off in such a way that they looked so lovable. It was a sad and happy eight weeks, filled with laughter and tears. It’s very sad to see it go but hopefully Noh Hee Kyung will surprise us with a new drama soon! For the last time…Goodnight, Jang Jae Yeol (and Hae Soo of course). Do you guys agree with these picks?
