Kim Yuna’s Boyfriend Involved in Massage Parlor Scandal

Recommended Posts

Ice hockey player Kim Won Joong, most famous for being the boyfriend of multiple gold medalist ice skater Kim Yuna, has become embroiled in a scandal while on military service.

According to numerous media reports, Korean military authorities have charged Kim Won Joong and two other soldiers with a breach of military rules after the men allegedly left barracks after curfew and paid a visit to a “Thai-style massage parlor” on June 27, telling other military personnel that they were going to buy refreshments from a convenience store. Details of the illicit visit appear to have emerged after the soldiers were involved in a road accident on their way back to the barracks.

It also appears that Kim Won Joong was injured as a result of the accident and checked into a civilian medical clinic to get treatment, rather than follow military protocol and seek attention in a hospital affiliated with the armed forces. It is thought that Kim Won Joong did this in an attempt to avoid facing military charges.

Media reports have also carried news that this is not the first time that Kim Won Joong and other members of the men’s hockey team have been in trouble with military authorities, with alleged late-night drinking sessions with women also said to have taken place late last year following competitions.

A military spokesperson would only tell reporters, “The matter is under investigation at the moment.”

If found guilty, there is a possibility that Kim Won Joong could face time in military prison.

Kim Won Joong, who plays for the Korean national ice hockey team, was on the verge of completing his period of compulsory military service, and had only about one month left to serve before being discharged. He has risen to the rank of sergeant.

Kim Yuna and the ice hockey star officially confirmed their romantic involvement in March this year, and the two are believed to have become close friends after first meeting in 2012.
