Girls' Generation's "The Best" Tops the Oricon Charts Two Weeks in a Row, Tying with BoA's Record

Girls' Generation adds another feat in their long list of achievements. On August 5, it was reported that the nine-member girl group's "best-of" album in Japan, titled "The Best" has topped the Oricon Weekly Albums Charts for the second week in a row.

This continues the streak that the group has established for sitting on top of the Oricon Daily Charts for 12 consecutive days, holding on to the spot since "The Best" was released on July 23

Girls' Generation's triumph on the Oricon Weekly Charts is notable for being the first consecutive-week chart-topping for a South Korean female artist in 10 years, since BoA's "Love and Honesty" in 2004.

"The Best" is Girls' Generation's third No. 1 on the Oricon charts in their career. Prior to the success of "The Best," Girls' Generation has also hit No. 1 with their "The Girls' Generation 1st Japan Album" released in June 2011 and their third regular album "Love and Peace" released in December 2013. This achievement also puts them in the position of the biggest Asian girl group outside Japan on the charts.

"Girls' Generation has appeared at No. 1 on the Oricon charts before, but not for two consecutive weeks as they did with 'The Best,'" the Oricon web site announced. "BoA did this once in 2004, topping the charts from January 26 to February 2, but it has not happened again since until Girls' Generation a decade after."

Meanwhile, Girls' Generation will be among their fellow SM Entertainment artists featuring in "SMTOWN Live World Tour IV" in Seoul on August 15.
